Who would we rather see as the regular starter in the MU backline? The young gun O'Shea or the ageing vet Blanc?

It seems that for the moment O'Shea will get the odd game as Blanc cant play them all but who should be first choice?

And what about when Wes comes back? will O'Shea simply vanish and be sold off like so many other youngsters?

Personally I rate O'Shea as better than both Blanc and Brown at the moment, he maybe young and inexperienced but like they say if your good enough your old enough and O'Shea is definately good enough.

I think Blanc maybe passed it and isnt really suited to the Prem, Brown is talented but is too hot and cold, I reckon give the nod to O'Shea!

O'Shea... Brown can cover for Gary at RB. As soon as we get cover for LB is Escude in Jan, our defence will be sorted. (Hopefully Mexes to replace Blanc next Summer)

Now we just need a 4th striker.

I was thinking something similar myself, i think Wes makes a better RB anywayz, Mexes i hear is a genuine prospect and Escude should round off the defence and if we can get a striker in we are flying! Although what happens to messrs Neville P and Maysie?

Will Mexes be surplus now that we've got Brown, Neville, O'Shea, Rio & Silvestre being able to play in the central defender's role, & especially with possibly Escude coming in as well as Tate & Roche also waiting in the wings?

I would rather the money be spent on a big & speedy striker with an eye for goal to shore up our attacking trio!

O'Shea.

When Blanc finally retires give O'Shea the nod, Brown will be the RB

This defense would be great and last a good few years:

Silvestre
Rio
O'Shea
Wes

Bed in O'Shea with Rio this season, with Blanc more and more being moved to the bench, so by the end of the season O'Shea is first choice CB. On current form though, O'Shea should be starting at the back already. Wes when he's back will have to compete with O'Shea and Gary - and we'll just have to see how he does if and when he gets an injury free run.

Id use Blanc in the champions league where the pace of the game is slower and more patient. Bed o'shea in with a good run in the premiership. Wes and Gary can then battle it out for Right back.

Where's Phil in all these equations?

O'Shea - got to start building for the future not let things slip behind as we did last year. As for Brown, cover for Neville G - not yet consistent enough to command either CB or RB in his own right.

Neville P........good make weight in our next deal???

O'Shea is brilliant. His performance against Chelsea was one you would expect from someone like Larry, who has been to all of the top leagues in the world.

you lot? possible. theres only 3 places he'd go in england, and then 2 of them is only coz of the garlic munching manager. ;)
still think he'll go to Rome though.

No question ,OShea needs to start ,he has dominated every game he has played at centre back this season

100% agreed with you and

I think it a bit early to talk about buying Mexes and the likes!

I'd give the nod to O'Shea too. I was a bit sceptical at the beginning of the season but he's really shown me something over the first few weeks of the season.

And I think it's good to show the rest of the players that you get in on merit and not name/how much you earn/how much you cost.

O`Shea

Doesnt seem tolose concentration as Wes is prone to do , even Rio has his moment in every game , is quicker then Blanc , and was again very assured on Sat ,

O'Shea. He's ready. He's good enough... and he'll only get better with more experience.

O'Shea has looked top notch from his very first appearances in the first team....he's the real deal.

I had high hopes for Wes Brown at CB, but he's seldom looked as successful as he did at RB...lets hope he has a sustained period of fitness later this season so he can show us his best form again.

Wes looked like a real prospect a centre back a few years ago, but i think he let the mistakes get to him. He's not confident enought to be a CB. My best bet would be O'Shea and Rio in the Premier league. Larry and Rio in Europe. Larry has the experience we need for the European games. The Premiership is much faster than the CL and Larry's lack of pace is being exposed.
As for Right Back, it has to be Gaz. If O'shea could cross the ball he could easily push Gaz for the Right Back slot.

It was obvious even before Wes Brown's latest injury setback that O'Shea had suddenly jumped ahead of him as a potential long term partner to Ferdinand.
Wes Brown is a talented player but he is neither physically durable or demonstrative enough. He may bounce back, he is still young. But for me he is just too injury prone and quiet to be a 1st choice centre back.
This season I see it as Blanc and Ferdinand all the way with O'Shea stepping in as needed. That is if things are going well. If things start to go pear-shaped Plan B would always be to play G. Neville in central defence..solid, robust 100% commitment.
As for Wes...he won't be back for a while anyway...but it's down to him and his body.
Ronny Johnsen had the same problem..cracking player...never really stayed fit enough to forge a lasting partnership in defence...and that's what it is about in central defence.....dolly and daisy.

Just when I'm getting confidence in the defence someone mentions Mickey at CB

He's still improving and might prove me wrong but I have too many doubts about his concentration to trust him at CB. He's a good left back and getting better. I hope he stays there and stays there for us.

The way O'Shea is going he might be better than Rio. Allow Blanc to fade out this season.

Next season's back four
G Neville (Brown)
Ferdinand and O'Shea (Brown)
Silvestre (Escude?/P Neville). The back up is too thin but hopefully Roche, Tate and Tierney continue to develop.

If we sign Mexes (or any other CB) does he get a start ahead of John and Rio?

dicko, like you said, Tweety has improved tremendously, & I think he's played a couple of times at central defence for France, tho' like you, I feel he's better at full-back!

My suggestion was that he can play at central defence in a worst-case scenario & your list of defenders actually show that there is cover for every defensive position, so if we had limited funds, won't it be better if it was spent on a decent striker?
