I really do think these two will be our two main CB's this season (cosidering Wes is now out till Christmas), we'll I pray that they are.

Blanc at the end of last season was magnificent, but his complacency, and apparent lack of drive are driving me to despair. The only way Utd will get back on track is if the defence plays we'll hence the next few weeks are important in showing everyone that those mistakes and lapses are gone. If Blanc plays like he did yesterday we will have trouble again at the start of the season.
Our midfield willl sort itself out as soon as the defence does, the Seba Scholes or whoever else it is can concentrate on their own game.

So what do you think???????

I just think we've lost our spark that made us the best attacking team around. I watch a match and i dont see us driving forward like we used to.

After one game?

We had plenty of chances last night. You get games like that. If it continues, we have a problem, but as long as we create chances, it will be OK.

The kind of games to get depressed about are those where we don't get one clear cut chance, like Liverpool at Anfield last year, and Arsenal at OT.

We didn't play well last night, but created chances. See how it goes before you panic.

I'd really like to see an O'Shea/Ferdinand partnership get a run in the side. O'Shea hasn't put a foot wrong since his starting debut against West Ham last December. He's got so much poise and composure for someone so young.

WB hasn't really played much football lately so it's hard to partner him with anyone but the trainer. so i'd like larry to be the teacher in training and give the job over to o'shea when rio gets back.

the attack as liv said (kinda) needs to finish better. it will happen. the side does need a key when teams defend like arse , boro , pool etc. games in which MU never looked like scorin'. who that is i do not know.

At the start of the treble year we lost to arsenal 3-0 in the charity shield drew with three teams including lodz away in the champions league qualifier and only beat one team lodz at home.Every team underperforms once in a while hopefully we can shake off this performance with a good home win.remember the last time we had to qualify we won the thing.

Yes I take that point but it seems to me that there is not the same passion in the team to add to this we are lacking strength in depth in vital areas ,Up Front, Full Back, and Wide attacking areas.Surely SAF is aware of this and is working on it.
Why let Cole and Yorke go who are proven for us ?Then replace them with Forlan who I personally think is a bad buy (makes no sense to me)

Give Forlan a chance. Cole didn't exactly set the world on fire when he first arrived. Personally i'm more worried about other areas of the team, the lack of form shown by our wingers. Giggs was virtually invisible for most of the game against ZTE, and he didn't exactly finish last season well either. Becks, if he still isn't fully fit then don't play him. Veron, despite a great pre season, looked much the same as last season. And finally, god help us, we are going to have to play atleast one of the Neville brothers for the next 3 months.

Andy wanted to go because of limited 1st team chances,Yorkie shot himself in the foot with all of the partyng.Maybe cover for the fullbacks would be wise i also think diego should be given a chance remember he only ever comes on 10-15 minutes before the end.

Cole was atleast one of the top strikers in PL when he arrived at OT. Forlan certainly isn't. To have him as our # 3 striker is a joke! He might well turn into a good striker, but for now he is not dependable.

Just look at the difference in our strikers from 2000-01 and 2001-02.

In 2000-01 we had Sheringham, Cole, OGS and Yorke.

In 2001-02 we ended up with RVN, OGS, Forlan.

Tell me which group you would you chose?

To lose Sheringham, Cole and Yorke and gain only RVN (great buy) and Forlan. If we see RVN as Sheringham's replacement or probably Cole's replacement (as he was thought as our #1) then we'd all must agree we are happy with the new guy (RVN). That leaves Forlan as Yorke's and Cole' or Sheringham's replacement. That is a definit step down at this time.

United's problem is the fear factor. In 99 and 2000 we had no fear of anyone. When we went a goal down we just carrying on playing with thr esolve we would win the match eventually. Now we are too scared to concede putting us on edge at the back culminating in errors. And once we concede we don't show have the belief that we will overcome. Worse still, we play with no speed at all. The hallmark of our 99 play. It's no surprise that Giggs,Veron, Bex,Forlan and some times Keano suffer from non speed football. For speed football serves their skills best.

As a Pool supporter, I wish that was true. ManYre are excellent going forward - one of the best in Europe at it. It's defensive issues they need to address. I saw them win 5-3 at WHL last year. I have still not recovered.

True our attack is not an issue really. The only problem that has is in terms of backup/cover. And I know SAF will sort that out over the next few weeks.
Our problem is defence, and the fact to a certain effect that the team has lost faith in the back 4. Also does anyone remeber the games against leverkusen last year, they passed thru our midfield like it wasnt there.
To me at the moment we are weak in defence, and the co-ordination between defence and midfield is lacking.
And since Teddy and Dwight have left we miss some one to link the play between midfield and upfront.

As team unit we are not performing as well as we used to. This was our major strength in previos years. Hopefully thru the season these problems will work themselves out.

Once we started making those boboes at the back, bang went our confidence, and we have not recovered since. Before we used to say - go ahead score one and we shall score five. Now once the opposition scores, we say - feck the floodgates are open again!
As for speed, IMO we played our best ever football in the early nineties when we had Giggs/Kankan on the wings. We were simply awesome.
