Manchester United are lining up a transfer move for Bayer Leverkusen defender Omer Toprak, according to reports in Germany.

Toprak has made 159 appearances for Leverkusen since making his debut for the Bundesliga outfit in 2011 but is now being heavily linked with a move to the Premier League.

Kicker say the Red Devils have been scouting the Turkish centre-back in recent weeks and have placed him at the top of their shopping list.

However, United may struggle to tie down Toprak seeing as Leverkusen are desperate to keep hold of the 26-year-old.

It’s understood United are keen on bringing defensive reinforcements to Old Trafford ahead of the 2016/17 campaign.

Apparently Bayern are also interested, his name is familiar but I don't watch a lot of Leverkusen so don't really have an opinion on him.

Another link to a CB. Must be a rumour going about that we need one.

Is there any CB in Europe that we haven't been linked to yet?

He was involved in a high profile scandal in the Turkish NT, along with Calhanoglu and Töre. I can't remember the specifics but the former two were held at gunpoint by the latter or his friend or whatever and then, bizarrely, the NT coach took Töre's side and stopped selecting them for a while.

Ah! That might well be it, that was a weird situation.

At first, having had an insane Turkish coach or two in football, I assumed the coach was nuts, but after time, I think that while holding a teammate at gunpoint is an incredible workplace violation, the other guys probably did something real bad to provoke it for the coach to let it go. Calhanoglu might be the finest set piece taker and long-range shooter in the entire world. You don't just risk losing him for years when the other dudes have a fecking gun.

But then again, it's a gun. Did they previously have a gun or knife? If not, I mean, if they just said some shit or whatever, what kind of idiotic rich early 20s Millionaire punk is putting a gun on people in a hotel room or whatever?

This story happened similarly in the NBA and it was a way bigger deal. Anyone got the best article on this?

It is the Metro and he is shite. Seriously, we arent in the Championship yet.

He is a pretty good player, in fact he was outstanding in the last weeks before his last injury. Single-handedly stopped Bayerns attacks in their last meeting in February. Wouldn't place him in the top bracket of defenders but he would do the job for most teams competing in the CL.

Well i havent watched him this season, maybe once. I always thought he was average, even against us a few years back. If he has made huge steps forwards, good to hear.

Did you watch any of his games last year?

He'd be a Schneiderlin-level signing. A good player, but not someone who should be starting for an elite team, which United should aspire to be again.

can we please just overspend on elite talent, theres no point having the biggest slush funds in the world if you don't actually utilise it.
