It shows just how much attention I pay to the French league when I'm surprised that Matic plays for Lyon.

Excited for this one. We’ll know how much we’ve improved in this game. Last few games we’ve looked much better. Let’s hope it carries on

I was surprised Mount didn't start on Sunday but maybe that was to keep him fresh for this one. As much as Amorim praises how he's the perfect fit, you'd figure he'd try to get him more minutes. I think he starts this one.

    Onana
    Maz - Maguire - Loro
    Dalot - Ugarte - Bruno - Dorgu
    Garna - Mount
    Zirkzee

Lyon haven't played for almost 2 weeks I think

Why are you surprised Mount didn't start, he's been out for ages and played 10 mins the previous game, he won't start this one either

I think going by the increments he's seen, he will probably get 45mins, which could mean a start.

Amorim said at the press conference he’s to watch his minutes I’d be surprised if he starts

"Mason Mount is ready to do what we want, of course we have to look at minutes"

I think it means he can start and play 60 minutes.

Not sure he will start though, more likely the second leg. Definitely wouldn't start him against Newcastle.

This Zirkzee up front experiment needs to stop.

Hojlund deserves to be dropped after his last two showings and I've grown tired of the Ugarte/Casemiro double pivot and it's lack of creativity. I think this is the best team we can field at the moment.

Olympique Lyonnais, commonly referred to as simply Lyon (and nicknamed Les Gones or L'OL), is a French professional football club based in Lyon, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Olympique Lyonnais was initially formed under the multisports club Lyon Olympique Universitaire, which was originally formed in 1896 as Racing Club de Lyon. In 1899, Olympique de Lyon formed a football team within the multisport club. On 26 August 1950, played its first official match defeating CA Paris-Charenton 3–0 in front of 3,000 supporters.

Lyon won its first ever Ligue 1 title in 2002, starting a national record-breaking streak of seven successive titles. During that run the club also won one Coupe de France title, its first Coupe de la Ligue title and a record six Trophée des Champions. The club also performed well in UEFA competitions, reaching as far as the quarter-finals on three occasions and the semi-finals in 2010 in the UEFA Champions League. Lyon's streak and consistent dominance of French football came to an end during the 2008–09 season, when it lost the title to Bordeaux.

Lyon was a member of the G14 group of leading European football clubs and are founder members of its successor, the European Club Association. They have a long-standing rivalry with nearby team Saint-Étienne, against whom they contest the Derby Rhône-Alpes. Olympique Lyonnais plays its home matches at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais, commercially known as the Groupama Stadium.

We are looking more solid of late. The issue is scoring goals. We have to qualify. 100% effort expected.

I think it will be Ugarte & Casemiro in the middle atleast for the first 60 minutes to try and keep it relatively solid for the first leg away from home. Then probably Bruno back to CM and Mount coming on for one of Cas or Ugarte. Hopefully Zirkzee starts upfront, he looks way sharper than Hojlund at the moment.

Surely our midfield can run about past matic.... he was hounded towards the end of his time here for being unable to run about... watch him run the show!

UNITED'S SQUAD TO FACE LYON (A)

    Goalkeepers: Bayindir, Heaton, Onana.

Defenders: Amass, Dalot, Dorgu, Kamason, Kukonki, Lindelof, Maguire, Mazraoui, Shaw, Yoro.

Midfielders: Casemiro, Eriksen, Fernandes, Mainoo, Moorhouse, Mount, Ugarte.

    Forwards: Garnacho, Hojlund, Zirkzee.

    Think Mount plays/comes on as, a 10.

Most of the players back now… just Martinez and de Ligt really?

Good to see Moorhouse in for experience. Be interesting to see if he goes on loan next season or stays next season… same for Mantato (think he stays).
Amad the only other one I can think of right now.

That's the way I see it.

That's what I mean with Bruno being moved back to CM and Mount replacing one of the two midfielders.
Get you, read it differently first time but makes sense.
Amad the only other one I can think of right now.
Talking to my mate and he said the same. Miss his “spark”.

A long way from the mass injuries we had. With strong academy sides, maybe we can go for 1-2 top players rather than a few £30m ish range

    No Collyer again?
He suffered a knock, unfortunately. Shame as he would definitely be useful to come on at some point of the game if we had a good result.

Hopefully de Ligt will be back soon as well.

Nice to have so many players available for midfield. It could be a Bruno-Casemiro pairing in the centre, or Bruno-Ugarte or Ugarte-Casemiro. At number 10s as well: Garnacho-Zirkzee, Garnacho-Mount, Bruno-Mount etc etc. Plus Mainoo possibly coming on at some point.

Don't like Onana's comments as they'll only motivate opposition more and he's capable of howlers. Wasn't neccessary at all.
