Olympic legacy

I guess this thread has been started out of the enjoyment I've had personally watching the Olympics but could in fact be used to discuss a number of different aspects regarding the effects of these Olympics. I find I generally only watch these sports when the Olympics are on, and every four years think about trying to watch more. This time though I'm determined to find ways of watching some a lot more regularly, rather than always concentrating on football. Can anyone recommend good competitions / coverage over the respective sports' calendars?

There's also the element of people increasing their own engagement in some of these sports. As a UK resident I really hope this can boost participation, not only for serious engagement but also for fun. I'll certainly be looking for more opportunities for the kids to get involved in sports.

Then of course there is also the economic / wider social effect (which I guess is one for the CE forum), although I'm sure the Tories will find a way to cock that up.

In terms of the first two (watching and participating in wider range of sports and activities) how do other caftards feel? I'm sure there are also other dimensions to discuss and perspectives from non-UK posters

The BBC always have very good coverage of major athletics meetings - not necessarily live and hidden away on BBC2 sometimes, but very good nevertheless, since it's about the only sport they have rights to these days

You can bet they'll start covering some cycling events now too if they can.

As for me personally, this has given me the momentum to get back in to my running - watch out Mo!

But ultimately I think if any real good is to come out of this feel-good factor, the government needs to put its money where its mouth is.
