NO GB REPRESENTATION IN THE FOLLOWING SPORTS . . .

Baseball - The GB men's second place at the European Championships won them entry into the Olympic qualifying tournament in Taiwan in March. However, a lack of funding forced the team to withdraw and ended their hopes of playing in Beijing.
Basketball - There will be no British representation in Beijing, but plans to enter men's and women's teams for the London Games in 2012 are progressing well.
Football - England's women had hoped to be able to compete as part of Team GB in Beijing, but football's world governing body Fifa blocked the plan. There has also been opposition to proposals from the British Olympic Association to enter men's and women's teams at the London Olympics in 2012.
Handball - There will be no British handball team in Beijing, but plans are already under way to put together a team good enough to compete at London 2012.
Softball - Britain will not have a softball team in Beijing. The sport will be making its final appearance at the Olympics before being dropped from the schedule.
Table tennis - Young star Paul Drinkhall failed to reach the Olympics at the final world qualifying tournament in May, so GB will not be presented at the Beijing table tennis event - although Kelly Sibley has earned a berth on the list of reserves.
Volleyball - Beach volleyball pair Denise Johns and Lucy Boulton are looking to London 2012 having missed out on Beijing, and there will be no British representation in the indoor volleyball tournaments.
Wrestling - No British freestyle or Greco-Roman wrestlers have qualified for Beijing.

I don't know why, but I've got a feeling we are going to do really badly at these Olympics with the possible exception of the cycling!

Britain have great multiple gold medal chances in Boxing, Cycling, Rowing, Sailing and Athletics.

I know your new national swim coach good guy total hardass, should have your swim team improved by 2012

Let's face it, to compete, is to have a chance.

So it's fair to say we're not competing at all.

The truth is that, despite what this thread is suggesting, Britain has it's strongest Olympic squad since the war.

We should pick up some medals in the darts

feck, forgot about him.... he's got to be on performance enhancing drugs though

Murray will win all bronze medals in singles, doubles, mixed doubles...etc

Cmon Murrrrrrrrrrrrrrray!!

murray will face nadal in the 1/4

cycling - many medal hopes
rowing - always string
boxing - strongest squad at any olympics
yaughting - usual suspects should do well

athletics we do have some decent shouts

womens 400
womens 4 by 400
womens 800
womans marathon - assuming paula can get fit
mens triple jump
mens 4 by 100

all decent shouts for medals

Sorry guys but this really cracks me up;

Handball - There will be no British handball team in Beijing, but plans are already under way to put together a team good enough to compete at London 2012.

4 years is nowhere near enough to produce a strong team, 'a team' sure, but that team would be nothing more than makeweights. By hiring an excellent coach and pumping money into the project the team might possibly become decent ;)

Much the same as most countries, we all tend to focus on sports we have a chance of gathering medals in, but i dont know about you - i'm sick of Irelands coverage already - Rowing is boring as feck & the coverage should be given a health warning for those suicidal & on the ropes!

I'd much prefer to watch the Travelling Community beating lumps out of each other in a burdened housing estate any day of the week!
