He's having a great season. Very good allround player and turning into a good finisher. Imo he reminds me of Saha.

2 years left on his contract, 27 years old.

After the World Cup under a new manager that makes Villa play well, he has 12 goals in 19 games and 4 assists (taken from FPL). He basically does something important once pr game on his current form. Also scored/assisted against every big side after the World Cup, except against United.

Should we go for him as an alternative to Kane/Osimhen?

I don't think so. I think he's probably not what we want as first choice and likely too pricey for back up.

I watched him closely at the weekend and I thought he was very average. Lindelof pocketed him quite easily, so it's a no from me.

Had to rewatch the highlights, but he was actually involved in both Villa's big chances. Not sure what he could have done better in any of them.

TBF the service to him wasn't good enough, it's unfair to use just one game to conclude on him.

If we look back at the reversed fixture at villa park he completely made Lindelöf look like a twerp, he was brilliant on that day if i remember well, also scored against us in the Carabao Cup at Old Trafford too.

I think he's a very capable foward player might not be what we need long term but he's very good at a lot of things, as OP said he's scored a good number of goals since after the WC,

Now imagine that number of goals in our team, I'll take that compared to the return our other Fowards, Rashford aside has produced in that time.

Pretty silly argument given no one in the world is suggesting that rather than buying a new forward we should stick with what we've got.

He was rubbish for the rest of it and only got into those positions through our poor defending.

He barely won (if at all) a duel with Lindelof, they seemed to have him earmarked as their outball from the keeper and he just tried to back in to Lindelof every time, without an attempt at bringing the ball down. Lindelof isn't what I'd class as an overly physical CB to begin with, but he dealt with it every time. I didn't see anywhere near the quality of a CF that we should have. If he's a backup to somebody far better, then fine. Otherwise, not for me.

See he has another 2 years on his Contract to June 2025.

27 years old.

Could be an interesting choice in summer 2024, if his Contract hasn’t been sorted by then.

Such a deadly striker. How he doesn't start in front of Kane this tournament is shameful stuff.

Kane never looked like scoring such a goal all tournament.

Great goal. Probably deserves to start the final after that.

He wont though
At the very least he’s hopefully earned 30 mins instead of 10.

He or Toney to start the final. Kane has his uses but shot physically.

Brilliant goal by Watkins.

Remember watching this kid live for Exeter.

Come a long way! Had great physicality back then but touch wasn't quite there, what an improver.

on loan at Weston-super-Mare 10 years ago!

Can't wait for Gabby on talksport in the morning.

Give creative players a striker who can move off the ball and exploit space and make runs in behind, it makes life easier for the player with the ball.

I’m sure the outlook on Foden’s tournament is probably completely different had he played with a striker like Watkins the whole time.

I've watched the goal about 20 more times now. Truly was a stunning finish, literally aimed inch perfectly.

I completely agree with you. A player like Watkins making runs into the channels and getting in behind, really opens up space for Foden and Bellingham to move into, as well as options for forwards passing.

Spain like to play a high line at times. Watkins can be a real threat off the bench trying to get in behind. Personally I’d play him from the start because that’s when Spain’s high line is most likely to be on display, but it takes a brave man to drop Kane for a Euros final after he’s led the line the entire tournament. So I won’t be critical if he doesn’t. That said, I think it could be a tactical master stroke if he does go with Watkins.
