'tis a silly place
David O'Leary has labelled Newcastle United manager Bobby Robson as 'out of order' after Robson claimed Marc Viduka should have been sent off yesterday.
The managers were involved in a bitter war of words after the game.

Viduka made two bad challenges in the First-Half which left Dabizas stretchered off. Viduka went on to score.

Robson said: "I thought the referee failed in his duty to send Viduka off. He got one yellow card for two offences. Viduka is a fine boy and a more than wonderful player but he was lucky to play the full match.
"Had he gone from villain to hero, as he nearly did by scoring a goal, I would have been very bitter. It was the only big mistake Jeff Winter made. Normally, he is not scared to deal with these offences.
"Two yellow cards would have been sufficient."
However, O'Leary hit back, saying: "I can't believe Bobby is still going on about it. He will probably be going on about it on the coach home as well.
"I think he is out of order. Mark Viduka is a footballing centre forward. He certainly didn't mean what happened. There was no intent.
"I have seen Bobby defend Alan Shearer for several seasons now so I am surprised at that. But, Jesus, does he harp on about that?"

I heard on '505' on TalkSport that Viduka should have gone and I would like to say O'Leary will never be as good a manager as Robson.

If Roy Keane had made that challenge on Viduka and left the same deep gash on his leg, potentially putting him out of the next few crucial games, then I think O'Leary might have seen the incident in a different light.

whats wrong with O'leary defending his man, thats fergies trademark and only a harmless manager would come out with less than 100% support for his player

as far as i can see the main reason he's so overrated is because Fergie went out and proclaimed him to be the only man capable of the OT job,

if Leeds dont start getting things together soon though i can see DOLly being out of a job

He shouldn't have been off...yes it was a bad challenge for the second one but it was an accident.

Remember that Jeff Winter reffed the Highbury match where Bowyer and Mills were sent off so he would have had no hesitation to send off Viduka had he felt the need to.

This is the same Robson that said Bellamy shuldn't have been sent off for a careless arm against Cole. Well remember your own advice Robson when whinging about other players walking.

I don't understand Bobby Robson. His team deservedly came back from 3-1 down to win a thriling match BUT was aided by a penalty which Winter didn't hesitate in giving even though it was ball to hand and I've seen worse not given....and he was whinging about Viduka not being sent off when a) his team won b) his team won c) his team won and d) his players must have felt really happy knowing the only thing Robson cared about was that Viduka was not sent off but not how well his players had performed? and e) his team is top of the league.

I liked how DOL brought Alan Shearer into the equation. He's got away with plenty in his time so it was good he got a mention!

I agree though that Robson obviously is a better manager than DOL now as DOL is no tactical genius to lose a 3-1 lead....at home. But Harte's dodgy defending didn't help either...'here's Mr.Dyer sir...just run straight past me for three goals!!!'

he's done an ok job. The fella has spent 100million+, inherited some great youngsters such as Kewell.

Yet his team plays some of the most backward style football known to Europe.

DOL ya shite!

Also don't forget that Jaconovic put McPhail out with a gash from thigh to ankle, plus he damaged ankle ligaments when he trod on McPhail after the challenge...in the Worthington Cup. McPhail is still out. Jacanovic would have broken his leg but 'luckily' his ankle buckled under the challenge. He didn't even get a yellow card.

Dacourt is still out because Tugay landed on his shoulder dislocating it...meaning Dacourt had to have it reset and a pin put in it and is on the sidelines for 2 months. He is important to 'our' crucial matches. Tugay didn't get a yellow card.

Viduka got yellow carded by Winter for the clumsy challenge but it was literally Dabizas and Viduka colliding with each other. If you had actually seen it Gazza instead of deciding by someone else's opinion on the radio you might change your mind.

Why should Viduka walk for a clumsy challenge that was very similar to all the others mentioned that didn't get red carded?

Are all incidents where someone gets injured on the pitch an immediate red card to the offender?

He's also rightly concerned about the health of his players,

no, not all but they all should be and its right of robson to say thathe should have been off the same time as its right of DOL to defend his player,

just two managers doing their job

You do. That’s the general consensus of most European Coaches....

Neanderthal football....

Funny then that the general concensus I heard was that DOL likes to copy Fegie's and Man Utd's style of play????????

And can you post copies here of the general concensus of the leading experts in Europe because I have never read that Leeds have the most backward style of play in Europe and would be interested to read their views. The 'neanderthal' tag I DID read but that related to the Spanish Press feeling Leeds were a little rough with their European darlings Deportivo and then knocking them out of the CL. Sour grapes.

I did read that critics were suprised that Leeds made the semis of the CL with the least % of possession in the CL...but then they themselves then searched further and realised that the other teams in the top 3 for least possession were Bayern Munich and Valencia...both also winners and finalists of the CL last season. Do they play backward in Europe too?

Finally from Sporting Life's match report:

Dabizas was stretchered off late in the first-half with a gashed leg following a challenge with Viduka which Robson felt was worthy of a red card, but referee Jeff Winter was correct in only issuing yellow.

That will be why when we got to the CL semis at our first attempt and won away at Lazio all the foreign coaches and English managers were saying what a great team we were and what a great campaign we had.
Another thing - how any MU or Poo fan can have a go at Viduka or any other player at Leeds when one has the likes of...
Roy Keane

and the other grew up with the likes of Souness and now has dirty Gerrard

Get your own house in order before having a go at us

Every club has it's hard tackler Man Utd (Keane), Arsenal (Viera), Liverpool (Gerrard) but Leeds have Bowyer, Batty, Johnson, Smith (who is a striker  ) Mills (whos also a cheat) i won't mention Dacourt because he has cooled down. The whole nature of your game is aggresive, even the referees have said so.

In all fairness to Leeds United, they are agressive because that is their game.
Leeds United Players' have always been hard tacklers (Billy Bremner etc) and that is the Yorkshire style.
Sometimes passion flares and I think Manchester United themselves have a few petulant players - Keane, Scholes, Butt, Beckham...
Leeds do have a number of tough players but credit to them, they have done well and Leeds are a team for the future.
Most of the players you mentioned are very young and will learn from mistakes and mature, don't be so tough on them.

Saying that, I must say I get annoyed with Bowyer, Harte and Mills etc, but it is part of Football.

That is out of order Richter.

Four Leeds United players were involved in an incident at a Night Club, and the Media made the situation seem like locking them up on Devils Island was too good for them, and the Najeib Family made themselves out to be angels at the same time.

It was one unfortunate incident which was exaggerated and thrown in to the spotlight. I am not saying they can get away with that, I just feel you are stereotyping certain people.

As for the drinking, I believe most players in the Premiership have a drink or two. I recall Lee Sharpe inviting Ryan Giggs for a fullscale party before an important League game years ago, and four Chelsea Players involved in an incident but a few months ago.

West Ham and Leicester City players have been in recent incidents - I would be suprised if any club had a clean record.

Stop making Leeds out to be a place for Prison Rejects, they have a competitive edge that makes them look like tirants, but they are just passionate.

My reply was directed at the fact that the refs said so.....but no I don't think Leeds players are thugs and more than you think Gerrard is or MU fans think Keane is...yes we have some hard players but they are no different from any toher hard player.

I agree, Murt.

Personally, while I was very disappointed to see Nik come off on a stretcher, it was plainly obvious from Viduka's reaction that there was no malice in his tackle. I don't think he deserved a straight red.

Also it's so much more satisfying to beat teams on even terms. :)
