My Grandad's generation had all the great games of the 50s and 60s.
My Dad's generation had Barca 84
I had Roma in 07 and that nerve-wracking 90 minutes against Barca in 08.

Every so often, there's a European night at Old Trafford that is almost era defining. We're at the start of a new generation but next week could be one of those special nights.

If you're going, enjoy it. These nights annoyingly don't come around that often.

Sounds like an advert for ESL

On a serious note, I was there too for Barca in 2008, 15 years already.

Where were you when Farca was kill.

Please don't make me regret this.

Same, best atmosphere I've experienced at a football game. Just brilliant from start to finish. Place was rocking.

Can’t believe Barca 2008 was 15 years ago  :( Remember saying to my dad before we’d even left the ground at the final whistle “how the feck we going to get final tickets”, but thankfully we did. Amazing night.

Until next season in the Champions league.

People are already forgetting McTominay’s last minute winner in October. A true great European night and one I’ll never forget. Next week won’t come close to that.

I'm hoping Sunday's match v Leicester City is a match for the ages. After all these decades, when I first idolized Best when I was a little boy, I'm finally going to my first United match at Old Trafford.

Biggest night we have had at Old Trafford since Madrid came over, I have already booked Friday off.

I went to Camp Nou in 2008 and wish I had gone again tonight. It was a totally different game, the intensity was there and we left rueing Ronaldo’s penalty miss but tonight’s match was so much better.

I would love to be at the match next week…

Maybe I'm just a snob who grew up in a period of success. But era defining feels a bit strong for the first knockout stage of the europa league

The fact they don't come around that often is one reason they're so special.

Will be amazing but the Europa League element will keep it from being defining imo.

That game at OT happened to be on my 21st Birthday. It was also the same day that GTA4 came out. It was an eventful day for me for a number of reasons

They were even rarer in your Grandad's and Dad's era (also mine) in those days you basically had to win something to qualify, UEFA cup was slightly easier, win the League Cup or finsh 2nd or 3rd

I was at OT for Barca 84 and have never seen an atmosphere like it before or since, the nearest was the following year at Wembley when Kevin Moran was sent off!

I'm pretty confident that last summer I was ready to buy two tickets for this next fixture when it was just marked as "EL Cup TBC" and didn't because I really wanted a new gaming GPU. So spent the money on that instead.

fecking hell. Just.... Absolutely fecks sake.

It is the biggest game of the season yet but only for a week because the league cup final is up ahead as well

Andy Mitten was laying down the gauntlet to the match going fans on Thursday. I hope they'll create a seriously intimdating atmosphere.

Listened to him on the flight back. Wasn’t at the Sevilla game didn’t realise it was so bad at OT? Don’t remember Atletico being so bad last season but we were poor

The crowd will be up for it. It is Barca, the possibility of beating them gets crowds energized. And what's even more important is that the players believe they can do it. I don't think the same attitude has been at old Trafford for almost 10 years now.

I expected to get schooled but it didn't happen, I'm confident now.

Just don't think La Liga is bad. Sevilla wiped the floor with PSV and they are in a relegation battle. Barca is also good but apparently Utd is truly becoming a team that can go upwards and onwards.

The atmosphere was amazing against Atletico last year.

The atmosphere is consistently good at Old Trafford.

Sometimes I feel like I live in an alternate universe when people say the atmosphere at Old Trafford is bad and it is so much better at Newcastle/Liverpool. It really is not.
