I am not up to date with current music and only listen to "chat" on the radio in my car or my old faithful stuff on my iphone mixed with a few modern bands.

If anyone would care to look at my list below and suggest any modern bands I may enjoy I would be very grateful. There's a bit of a mixture so it shouldn't be too difficult.

Black Mountain
Blossom Dearie
Creedence Clearwater Revival
The Cult
Deep Purple
The Doors
Gorillaz
Faithless
Jeff Buckley
Johnny Cash
Kings of Leon
Killers
Link Wray
Paul Simon
Primal Scream
Secret Machines
Small Faces
Stevie Wonder
Stone Roses
Strokes
Velvet Underground

There are obviously a couple of modern bands in there but I havent' bought new music in years and have a few quid to spend in the apple store.

Any recommendations?

Thanks

Band Of Horses
Vampire Weekend (For a very indie band with Simon-esque African flavours)
Fleet Foxes
The Cribs?
Them Crooked Vultures

Yeahh was just gonna say Vampire Weekend if you're into Paul Simon.

Maybe Gnarls Barkley, Cee-Lo Green and Janelle Monae as a modern alternative to Stevie Wonder? Radiohead for The Velvet Underground. Spoon, Interpol and Bloc Party have done some good stuff if you like The Strokes.

I posted teh smae thread on another forum so hopefully I'll see the same names cropping up.

Band of Horses is the one which has cropped up the most so I'll check them out first but I will defo check them all out. I'm not a big Radiohead fan though Easy V but thanks for teh other suggestions.

Where's the best place to check these bands out before buying anything? Youtube?

I can't suggest that many modern bands but I could add a lot of suplimentary older bands for you to add t your collection. Obviously you may well have heard them seening as they've been around for a while, ket me know if you are interested.

A modern band you might enjoy is My Morning Jacket:

I'll check out the vids when I get home later guys, thanks.

I remember reading an article on My Morning jacket a few years ago but as far as I know I've never heard their stuff. I'll let you know what I think

Bloody hell, Black Keys are the first one I've looked up on youtube and they are pretty darn good. Looking forward to hearing more of them when I get out of work.

I may just have found a use for the youtube icon on my iphone which has previously just been an ickle picture of a radio.

They're a great band, proper Blues Rock, similar to The White Stripes in that the band features only two members, a vocalist/guitarist and a drummer. If you get through a few of their albums, you'll notice that they really haven't varied their sound much at all from their debut through to this year's release; although the introduction of Danger Mouse as produced for the last couple of records has freshened it up a bit. Still a top band though, and I suppose if it ain't broke, you don't fix it.

My favourite album is Rubber Factory, which features what I think is their best song, '10 A.M. Automatic';
