If you had to pick one manager to suceed Fergie, who would it be?

And with your choice of manager, if you could have him replace Fergie right now, would you?

Hitzfeld IMO. don't know why Munich isn't doing so good though, i'm not exactly following their season.. but hitzfeld has done marvelously for both Dortmund and Munich...

he has the character and his success will be evidence to the United players as to why they should respect him..

i wouldn't replace him now, i would give SAF atleast until the end of the season to prove himself once and for all. If SAF has another strong end to the season then it won't hurt to wait 3 years before we finally bring Hitzfeld in.

Maybe what hitzfeld and SAF are going through are the same thing, they've spent too much time at one club.. both SAF and Hitzfeld need a new challenge and a straight swap between these two managers would be ideal.. although i doubt SAF will want to move to Germany!

Houllier because:

1) It would annoy Liverpool fans
2) To give him a chance to win something worthwhile.
3) To let him manage a club who fill their stadium each game, not just when we come to town.
4) To manage a big club.

Other than him, I would want Wenger. I can't stand him (helped by the fact he is Arsenals manager), but you cannot argue with the way he does things and the squad he has built.

And no, I would not want anyone else in the world managing MUFC than SAF.

When Fergie eventually goes United need to bring in a fresh young manager with new ideas. There's no point anyone trying to follow the Sir Alex formula step by step.
Someone like David Moyes would be a prime candidate. Fergie rates him highly. He's a similar stubborn Scot and now that he's at Everton he'll have Premiership experience as well. If he makes a decent job at Goodison, he should be near the top of the list.
I've met him a couple of times and he seems to be very focused and dedicated. He completely revamped the youth set-up at Preston - exactly what United need right now. He ran Preston from top to bottom and left nothing to chance and that's why he made a success of the job. I admire the way he's handling the Rooney situation as well.

yeah? thats only one reply.

McClaren.

No, for two reasons. I still think Fergie can win us another European Cup. And McClaren will need at least one more season with Boro.

Good point about Moyes although I think he will be too young and inexperienced for the United job when it becomes available - even if that is only in two years time. It is such a huge job and such an act to follow that the requirements are quite daunting. Success not only domestically but maybe in Europe as well seem essential components of the cv. Good organisational ability and of course tactical know how, and must be a workaholic. Probably most of all, strength of character and personality will be needed to cope with all the prima donnas on extortionate wages. Not that I begrudge them that if they do the business for United though. Now,let's see, who fits the bill ? Oh dear this is going to take a little time I think !

my sentiments exactly, that's why i said it might be different in 3 years time...

although looking at the situation at Munich, i can't say their board will let him see out his contract either!
