Oh i feel for our two British women in the open water swimming.

10km, now that takes something.

They say the Russian, Ilchenko, was up to some dirty tricks but the result stands i guess. She ahd form and the tactics worked fro her but even so...oh it is deflating.

Bronze and Silver for our two which is still great.

Massive congrats from me. :)

The Russian was pulling on her legs, unbelievable

Open water swimming is vicious, horrible sport

I just watched it. Just before the finish she grabbed her leg and pulled her self to the front, incredible. The coach just spoke about it as though it was normal in this sport.

The Russian was tapping on Kery-Anne Payne's feet more or less throughout apparently.

It was a German swimmer who pulled on her feet.

I'm listening to them on the radio now, they sound happy enough [which changes my mood some], the closes of friends apparently.

They just said they are goin to give our swimmer in the medn's race a massage and "get him psyched". Why am i here in London and can't swim 10km? :(

It is

Ilchenko was thinking nothing of fair play, was cutting people up and making contact e.t.c.

Tell you one thing, must take quite an athlete to do this sport and at such speed.

"I was quite annoyed. That is not sportsmanship when you pull on someone's feet. Every part of your body is hurting. Your stomach is the size of a pea, because all the blood rushes to your arms."
GB's Cassie Patten on gold medal winner Larisa Ilchenko

I bow to your superior knowledge, this is new to me.

Ah, well obviously there is no significant sanction for unsporting conduct.

its part and parcel of open water swimming, nothing untoward happened for that kind of race

There's a yellow and red card system. But obviously it relies on the officials present to spot it when it happens. Given the amount of trouble the commentators had even identifying which swimmer was which, it's clearly a very difficult thing to adjudicate on. Its normal people will clash and make contact. It's all about deciding whats deliberate, and spotting when its a tug or a pull rather than a tap or clash

Even if I was a world class swimmer, I wouldn't go anywhere near open water!

Damn it David Davies takes silver in the mens 10k swim he would have won gold if he did not swin off course.

Gutting once again, and this time it was a navigational error in the last 1k it seemed to me. Shame as he ahd led from the off.

David Davies got silver.

He had to be attended to by medics afterward, he'd given absolutely everything, was almost out for the count.

How they find the energy for the sprint finishes after 2 hours is something i for one am impressed by.

Thank God Manchester didn't get the Olympics. Imagine the hospital stays for these guys after 10k in the ship canal.

Not a good outcome, probably should have had the goal, but an epic swim by Davies. Well done mate.

"For the last part of it I was delirious, I wanted it so bad. I've given it everything - the stretcher at the end was a bit mad but I've got something to show for it. I felt a bit violated to be honest, people swimming all over me, and the last lap was a real struggle." David Davies

They're saying on the radio that looking ahead to 2012, Davies should probably consider sacrificing his participation in the 1,500m in the pool to further his career in open water swimming. And hearing what his schedule is at the minute when he oes both, you can sort of understand why they think so.

Apparently this was only his third ever 10k. Not bad at all. :)

I think the Brits should win both golds in 2012. They will be able to practice at the event location a few times.

There's a story to this Dutch gold medalist Maarten van der Weijden.

He apparently had to battle leukemia in recent years.
