Batting

-Mark Waugh and Ganguly are among the top 5 ODI openers of all time. Waugh was arguably second only to Sachin when it came to the best ODI batsmen in 90s.
-The middle order is boosted by 3 batsmen of different eras. Smith, a modern attacking batsmen, who has shown himself capable of playing the big innings. Boon from late 80s and early 90s, will play the anchor role if required. Inzi, the quintessential 90s middle order batsmen, can play any kind of innings needed. Drop the anchor or smash it about. --The middle order is capped off by the one of the best ODI finishers in all all time in Dhoni and another match winner in his own right in Cairns at 7.

- The top 7 order outside the openers will largely be flexible. Given match situation, someone like DHoni can eaily come in at 4/5 if required. Inzi can be promoted ahead of Boon or Boon can go ahead of Smith depending on conditions in play.
- Tail is solid with Warne and Starc both capable of smashing it about at the end.

Bowling

Led by the dangerous trio of Warne, Garner and Younis, it will be a all round potent bowling attack.
- Warne despite anyone may say, is still the best ODI spinner of all time IMO. Delivered way too many times in big matches for that not to be the case. His performances in in 96 and 99 WC semis are legendary.
- Garner, a contender for best ODI bowler of all time. His fiver in a 79 WC final is testament to him being a ODI match winner.
- Younis with a SR of 30 remains one of the best ODI pacer of all time. A true match winner similar to Warne and Garner.
- Starc rounds off the main attack. Starc is perhaps the best ODI bowler about given his performances in last WC.
- Cairns even qualifies as a bowling all rounder is well capable of bowling his full quota and impact the game everytime. But in addition - Waugh and Ganguly both provide handy 6th and 7th bowler options.

Overall, I don't see any particular weakness in the whole 11.

Part timers
Tillakaratne Dilshan
Viv Richards

Gordon Greenidge - 5134 runs @ 45, 65 s/r, 11 centuries

Record speaks for itself, an opener who has a great defense but also with the ability to take on the bowling.

Tillakaratne Dilshan - 10290 @ 39, 86 s/r, 22 centuries / Bowling - 106 wickets @ 45, 55 s/r, 4.88 econ

One of the leading run scorers of all time in ODI's, able to score big runs very quickly and an innovative batsman who's not afraid to try things to score runs. known for inventing the 'Dilshan scoop'. Also has taken 106wickets so is able to bowl a few overs if required. He's also a great fielder to boot, simply a super all round cricketer.

Jacques Kallis - 11579 @ 44, 73 s/r, 17 hundreds / Bowling - 273 wickets @ 31, 39 s/r, 4.84 econ

Another player who is one of the all time leading run scorers in ODI's, simply a run machine at no.3,someone who can come in at 3 and keep the score ticking over and also has the ability to hit the ball out of the park. Kallis is also an accomplished bowler who will come in as 4th bowler capable of keeping it tight and also take wickets.

Viv Richards - 6721 @ 47, 90.2 s/r, 11 hundreds / Bowling - 118 wickets @ 36, 48 s/r, 4.49 econ

Everyone playing the game knows who he is.

Clive Lloyd - 1977 @ 39, 81 s/r, 1 hundred

One of the great Windies batsmen able to tear bowling attacks apart but also able to build an innings when his team is in trouble like the 1975 WC final where he scored his only ODI century . Perfect player to come in later in the innings to speed up scoring or to steady the ship if early wickets fall. Lloyd is also our captain, and rated as one of, if not the greatest captain of all time. His ability to bring so many great players together and play as a team by managing big egos as he did with the great WI's team shows the great leadership skills he has.

Andy Flower - 6786 @ 35, 74 s/r, 4 centuries

The WK in the side a very capable keeper. With the bat he was the greatest Zimbabwe produced. Able to score big runs at a good pace too, could get into most ODI sides with his batting alone and was rated among his peers at his peak.

Imran Khan - 3709 @ 33, s/r 72, 1 century / Bowling - 182 wickets @26, s/r 40, econ 3.89.

One of the greatest allrounders of all time, bowling, batting, fielding and a great leader to boot. Able to come in at the end of the innings and give it a whack, and also the ability to open the bowling or bowl with the old ball with reverse swing. Would come in first change in this attack.

Abdul Razzaq - 5080 @ 29, 81 s/r, 3 centuries / Bowling - 269 wickets @ 31, s/r 40, econ 4.69

The 3rd allrounder in the team coming down the order to smash the ball around the ground and finish off the innings. Also at his peak was a sharp bowler who is able to take wickets and keep the score in check.

Michael Holding - Bowling - 142 wickets @ 21, s/r 38, econ 3.33

One of the fastest bowlers ever to play the game, he was nicknamed "Whispering Death" due to his quiet approach to the bowling crease. His bowling was smooth and very fast, and he used his height (6 ft 3 1⁄2 in or 1.918 m) to generate large amounts of bounce and zip off the pitch. Would open the bowling with Steyn in this team.

Dale Steyn - Bowling - 175 wickets @ 25, s/r 32, econ 4.86

In an era where everything favours batsmen Steyn stands out and is head and shoulder above other fast bowlers in his era. Super quick with a fabulous strike rate, with Steyn and Holding the team has a dangerously quick opening pair.

Saqlain Mushtaq - Bowling - 288 wickets @ 21, s/r 30, econ 4.29

One of the fastest bowlers to reach 100 ODI wickets, the record was only recently beaten. The inventor of the doosra and an out and out wicket taker with a s/r of 30 which is simply phenomenal for a spinner. Able to bowl in the middle of the innings and take wickets and also a great death bowler.

Off the bat, would have to say RedTiger. Viv is a plus and it's a balanced lineup. Steven smith in ODI isn't all that great for me.

Bowling I'll say Crappy because his spinner is much better than RT's. Plus Waqar, Starc, Garner, Cairns is a lethal attack. However, one could argue that apart from Imran Razzaq Holding Steyn and Saqlain he also has Kallis Dilshan and Viv, who are genuine bowlers. Crappy has Ganguly and maybe Waugh.

Overall I'm leaning towards RT but I could be bribed :p

I wouldn't say Warne is a lot better than Saqlain in ODIS , it's quite close but can see why Warne would be preferred. Saqlain in the 1999 world cup is one of the best performances by a spinner in world cups, plus his record speaks for itself, it's Murali type stats.

Crappy had me sold at Waugh Ganguly, so much so that I didn't care to look at his complete team, nor RT's team:p

Bar Viv and Imran I don't see it in RT's side.

A joint 11 would be

Greenidge
Waugh
Viv
Kallis
Inzy
Dhoni
Imran
Warne
Waqar
Garner
Holding

That's 6 from my side.

Bowling wise, someone like Steyn has flattered to deceive in limited over format, I won't even have him ahead of Starc as an ODI bowler.

Problem is your batting isn't strong enough to compliment the excellent bowling attack, although your main bowlers are better overall RT has 8 bowling options in his lineup. Also Rt's bowling attack isn't shabby at all Holding, Imran, Saqlain and Steyn are great bowlers.

My combined 11 would be

G.Greenidge
M.Waugh
J.Kallis
Sir Viv
Inzy
Imran
Dhoni
Warne
Waqar
Garner
S.Musthaq
