A lot of the things on the Caf such as the main page and PMs cause me to get the following error message:

Phil, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1. If you are a new member, you are restricted to posting in the Newbie Forum only until you are promoted to full member status.
2. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
3. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

Yet I can come in here and start a thread..

?

All access masks are on default, which suggests everything is in order with your permissions Phil...

It's still doing the same thing, be it on firefox,IE or..opera on my phone. And no, I'm not coming through a proxy..

Come on mods, give us a hand. I can't be doing with the effort of trudging around all the different forums individually to see what topics are popular. I need the home page back!

Sounds like he is logged into his 2nd (newbie) account at the same time.

Don't think, just ban.

The thing is, it's only happening to you. Thus, if, as Sultan says, all of your settings are ok, it's a problem at your end.
Aye, but that won't stop him slinging insults our way and us resolutely ignoring him as there's feck all point bothering our arses over problems we can do nowt about.

My apologies I do hope gayers didn't offend your sensibilities too badly Bury.

The only person to even mention it's a problem at my end is not a mod/admin as far as I know so it's silence from you helpful admin folk.

How silly of me to expect the administrative staff to be able to help me out with a problem I've encountered on their website, I'll keep shtum next time eh.

With respect Phil, if you check the times, I checked out your settings immediately on logging on early morning.

I could not find any problems on our end, and there was little I could do, but inform you accordingly.

Phil is this a problem that has happened recently?
It's the main page, Private Mails and what else?

I take it you are not one of the more technically minded admins then? Surely one has the ability to suggest solutions to a problem on their own website's board software? I appreciate the immediate response with what you know how to do, but is that it for the whole admin team?

Top- Yeah it happened the day I started the topic, main page, anything to do with profiles (mine or others) and specific Caf links seem to give me that problem as well. My solution now is to just not log in and make do with the ads.

I honestly don't think the problem is with Phil himself - it would be a rather odd problem to be caused by something at his front - and he has opened the site on his phone as well which rules out problems with his computer - and it's apparently only when he's logged in with his username/user_id.

There's got be an explanation in the settings.

You're correct, I'm not too technically advanced. I do however know that you're settings are on default like every other poster. If the problem was widespread surely a lot more posters would now been complaining.

I've checked again Top.

It's definitely not an issue with the Caf's software.

don't worry phil. i can log in fine and you can't, so the caf is the real winner here. i would believe sultan if i was you. he is both wise and handsome.

But you've got to admit it's pretty odd, Sults?
I mean, if he's got the problem on both his computer (on 3 different browsers) and on his telephone, then it's not very likely the problem is with him.
I'm quite sure that if he changed his password and gave you his login-info then you'd have the problems as well.

What about the separate forum permissions; is it possible to exclude single members in there - so that even though his own personal user permissions are normal then he's still not allowed to access the main page because there are another permission section?
Probably a long shot, but the problem is a weird one, and caught me interest.

I guess the best way would be to do a search in the database for his id, and then see if it pops up in a table where it should by default be - just a thought, I know Niall's the only one who can do that.

I've also checked Phil's individual settings and they all seem fine, as Sults said.

Not sure any of the other Admin can do any further checking, so it might be an idea to send a message to Niall.

When I reported all his access masks are on default, it means all the issues you've flagged up are in order buddy.

Odd, I agree.

I never really doubted Sults in the first place, I was just trying to come up with an alternate explanation to a rather odd problem, so I tried to dissect the problem a bit as people seemed to all think that the problem was on Phil's court, which I don't think seems logical.

Okay Sults, sorry for questioning your thorough admin checks :smirk: I just wanted to play the devil's advocate in order to give Phil a bit more help - but like I said; if you tried loggin in with his user then I have a feeling you'd be getting the problem as well.

Phil, you could raise the question on vBulletin's help forum to see if it's a know problem that the permission settings are normal but the user's still having problems.

Thanks for your interest Top and I didn't think you doubted Sults.

I do think Phil did. If one of the Mods/Admin is dealing with an issue there isn't really a need for the rest of us to pile in.

It is an odd situation but, if Phil has sorted his cookies out and isn't coming through a proxy, I think it may be something that Niall needs to check.

I've done further checks, and refreshed a few settings. We'll just have to wait now for Phil to log back on again to find out the results.

Doesn't work you could just make him a new account with the same postcount, joindate etc. and delete the old one.

yeah, that would work. seems like a lot of hassle though. they could just delete his account. problem solved.

I know what the problem is...

Cheers Sults, Marching and Top refreshments seemed to sort things out...

aah and we all lived to post happily ever after...this was all just like an episode of the cosby show.

Do I hear a mention of cookies and refreshments?
