A few of us old farts enjoy yakking about the good old days; probably more than a few in fact. Any chance of a forum where we can talk about life as a United fan way back when? A lot of stuff related to this is brought up in other threads where modern players are compared to those of yesteryear. That's all well and good but sometimes it drags the thread off-topic and it must be boring for the young 'uns.

Actually completely disagree with this bit. I love threads like that as I get to learn more about the history of the club and older players. That being said, I think that a forum just for that (pre Premierleague, pre SAF) or whichever, will encourage lots of conversation about it and help me read more about it. I'd be happy either way.

Does it really require a whole separate forum? Would a dedicated thread not suffice?

A fair point, but I'd quite like to see a 'History of Manchester United' forum/sub-forum. Surprised there isn't one, actually.

There could be threads for classic matches, club legends, important historical facts about the club and other assorted stories etc. from way back when.

I think it would be a good place for the old timers to hang out and a good history lesson for the rest of us. It could also possibly be open to both newbies and mains posters. (though that last bit is probably taking it too far for the mods/admin)

There are dedicated sub-forums for the ressies/youth teams and the FCUoM lads, why not one for the history of the club?

I agree with everything your saying, but isn't that the point of the wiki? I know there is an older fan in the newbies who posts really good stuff about the history of the club, or at least did when I was there.

To be honest, I've never even looked at the wiki. I will do now though, thanks for the tip!

Back on point though, a wiki is all well and good, but I think a sub-forum would be fun and educating (I know that sounds lame) actually being able to discuss those topics with members who've been there and reading their acounts of those times etc.

You can't discuss in the wiki.

I'm not old, but I'd love a nostalgia corner.

There's the redcafe wiki..

Moriarty isn't talking about having a forum where he can talk about past players he's talking about somewhere where he can talk about the good old days as a United fan - I'd imagine it's as much about the atmosphere and how it was for a fan rather than about particular moments/people. And obviously people want to discuss it rather than just inform people about it.

that said, I reckon it'd be useful to have a thread for the older ones to share memories about past players, like when they went to go see Pele live or simply to talk about people like Zico or Platini because outside of Pele and Maradona the only time the greats get a mention is in a big list of players and I'd like to hear people's opinions on some of their heroes growing up, basically. And it'd be nice to have it all in one place. Never going to happen though.

I'm not keen on adding new sub-forums. They tend to become ghost towns and topics in them often don't get the exposure/interest they deserve as they're not as immediately visible at those in the top level forums.

I think keeping these kind of topics in the main United forum will be fine. You could put '[Nostalgia Corner]' (or something similar) at the start of the topic title to help with searching for them in the future.

What do you ol' farts think? ;)

Can't really see the point to be honest. Just make a thread.

Works for me.

Cheers Brwned. That sums it up nicely.

What part of no this isn't going to happen are you not understanding.
