Nordic Ghost Yeti (Scandi Carroll) | Haaland at City

Haaland has scored nearly 300 goals by 24, yes injuries and a sustained drop in form are possible but he's well ahead of the curve. He is on a Champions League pace that nobody has ever set or close to it.

Yes Muller wasn't considered as good as Beckenbauer back then, or a genius but Muller still won a Ballon d'Or, second once and third twice. 10th in France Football's best players of the 20th century. Haaland may never be Messi level with his style of play but he could be in the top 20 all-time like Muller due to his scoring ability. It will probably depend on trophies and big-game performances. He has a long time for those to come yet. I remember a time when Cristiano Ronaldo was criticised for not being a big-game player.
I think Haaland is unique in that so far while we've had limited players on top none so glaringly.

Muller comparisons are apt but even he had much more to his game than Haaland, his level of specialization of scoring goals and only goals is unprecedented.

The more important post you didn't quote was the other one...

Anyway the important thing in the post you've quoted it's that Erling will enjoy the tendencies of his period and this would help him a lot to be more remembererd. He needs to keep those records afloat for many seasons in order to be named in such lists and for that "life" has to help you.
So it's not that much a question of better quality: equal better stats, or demerit another player quality because he doesn't have the numbers of an Erling. Of course better stats to the very list assures any player a constant place in the books. Nobody doubts that, yet this leads to Erling depending excessvily in those numbers, even more than Muller (that BTW it's a player that I preffer over Erling, with more atributes than the Norwegian in my view), while also Muller had the curse (because of the ultimate pression implies to deliver for Germany)/and at the same time advantage, of playing for Germany and the bigger possibility of winning WCs, that gives an extra aura too.

All in all, with every legendary player that this game had produced with more focus in his goalscoring than anything, being closer to current times helps quite a lot and is more important than in other cases like for instance a Best, Charlton, Di Stefano, etc...the most modern versions of the greatest pure goalscorers tend to overlap and cast a big shadow above the older ones, that has happened even with all rounders phenoms and awesome goalscorers like Puskas, that sometimes he is not even mentioned, yet a lot more with someone like Bican and such that makes Erling's and others players mentioned here records look pale.

Another blank today but one of his best performances as a link-up striker in a City shirt, much more involved with dynamic runners around him

Great performance today, need more of that when he's not scoring. Brilliant play to put Gvaridol in 1 v 1 and a good turn and pass for Doku's goal. Much better all around despite not getting a goal. His link up play and his drpping deep was much better.

Agree, we all know he can score a hatful any given week. Performances like this is what he has been lacking. Allthough I do suspect it has a lot to do with instructions. But given how slow our play has been this season putting Haaland only to occupy the centre-halves have been pretty pointless. Need to see more of the urgency we showed today

That ‘Stay Humble’ thing is going to go down in history with Keegan ‘loving it if we beat them’ and Benitez’s ‘facts’

Probably checks under his bed for Martinez before he goes to sleep.

He has the mobility of Harry Kane. He looks exhausted, he's a player who would benefit from teams having fewer games in order to train more in different ways and develop himself. But we are where we are with football, just endless matches, half the players out there looking like the walking dead.

City not having a second proven striker really coming back to bite them. Keeping Alvarez around would've been a good idea.

To their defense, the money was great for Alvarez and he apparently wanted to go.
Of course they should have spend it wiser...many of us would be waiting to see if Foden finally settles as a perennial Top Class player, yet once again he falls in some bad period, but what nobody would have predict it's this sort of level from Phil.
When we add that he is surrounded by older versions from Kev, Gundo and Bernardo and young kids like Doku never looked like trully Pep players in the sense of being extremely individualistic, it's kind of a bad mix that exceeds loosing Alvarez.

I have never rated him as a world class player, and never will despite his heavily skewed stats and the constant media-gasm over him.

His all-round game is far too limited.

No idea what happened to him. He looked like a menace last season. This year, he’s completely invisible. I know he’s limited technically but with his physical tools and the team around him, you would think expect him to continue his dominance.

He was poor but Maguire deserves huge credit for completely dominating him.

It's all down to me, ever since I made him captain in my fantasy team he's been shite.

Maybe I'll put Salah as captain next week

Poor footballer. His game is so limited.

He will still finish as top scorer and not a single goal will be spoken about

Haaland is suffering from the decline of De Bryne who used to deliver 4 or 5 chances on a plate for him pretty much every game.
Totally anonymous today.

Should have kept Alvarez, even if it meant selling Haaland, the spine of this team is becoming less mobile so a more mobile forward would really help them.
