Nordic Ghost Yeti (Scandi Carroll) | Haaland at City

Why are the people who were adamant he'd make City worse and thst they couldn't play with him in the team conspicuous by their absence in this thread?

I don't think it's shocking. I remember the Henry vs Ruud debates and the Arsenal fans would point out that Henry scored more non-penalty goals than Van Nistelrooy and that the latter's total was inflated by penalties. I don't think it was inaccurate, either. There was an extremely United-friendly ref (Riley) who couldn't wait to blow the whistle during that time period, particularly at Old Trafford

Assists combined with created chances, big changes created, final third passes and through balls Is how you judge the creativity of a player not just assists alone, an assist can be just a 5 yard pass to a player who goes on a 40 yard mazy run, or a simple pass across the box to an attacker facing an open goal.
Cool.

Its getting more and more difficult to rule him out of this years ballon d'or

If City wins CL - And Haaland contributes to this the last 3 games, I dont think its possible to consider anyone else (assuming its for each calendar year, not season)

Already shares the goal scoring record with Shearer and Cole in 10 fewer games... Definitely PL POTY and probably the strongest candidate for this year's Ballon d'Or.

City are such bastards.

We were hoping to speak our desire into existence. I almost hope he destroys Messi and mainly Ronaldo's goal records just to bother fan boys.

Anyone else seen the supposed tweets from Goretzka claiming Haaland farted every time a Munich player came near him, his true superpower.

The Ballon D'Or is Messi's for the season. Haaland would win the FIFA award which still looks at the calendar year instead

His assist number getting too high for you to simply write off so now you have to reach a bit harder, huh?

Its for the season, still, if they won the treble and he scores at least 4 more goals in the champions league, plus breaking Premier league records, it'd be hard to say anyone else deserved it. Messi likely will get it though

If he does then he will have a strong case but Messi is still the betting favourite.

Makes me utterly sick they have both when could easily have been ours instead
Haaland I can kind of understand with Ole being inept and the City connection, but they were allowed a free run at Alvarez and Ankanji - both who have been unbelievable - for a combined fee less than one Antony.

It's kind of silly that this kid is gonna get passed up for the Ballon d'Or just because Messi scored like 4 penalties in the WC

The point is that Haaland is not, was not and will never be a playmaker nor does he pretend to be one. He is a pure goalscorer very similar to Muller and Ronaldo (2015 onwards). He will obviously get all the hype for his goals but with time that hype will die down. In the historical standing of players, that will be the limiting factor regardless of the number of goals and titles.

You simply cannot underestimate Messi's world cup performances. He carried his team on his shoulders to the trophy like few others have ever done.

He was good in the tournament...but to give him the award for one month of football out of a whole season feels like more of a legacy award than an award for the best footballer for the 22/23 season.

The appropriate award for Messi was player of the tournament, which he did win. Haaland has been the most impressive footballer for this season as a whole.

If City win the treble with Haaland scoring more goals along the way, and doesn't win the Ballon d'Or, it'll be a crime.

Football awards have been weighted towards the WC for yonks, no reason to believe this season should be any different, considering Leo had one of the best tournaments of any individual in the last 50 years. Let's be honest, when you watch a flying City, Kevin De Bruyne looks like the best player on that team, not Erling.
Leo is clear for Balon Dor.

If he wins it, it will be deserved. If City win the treble and Haaland wins, it will also be well deserved.

Messi has had good club form this season also, he deserves it.

Well, a good season in a league that is of lower quality, also, didn't show up against Bayern(Yes, Mbappe was even worse).

Its an alright club season, but nothing to write home about.

At the end of the day, Messi won the world cup as the best player, so he has already the ballon dor, nothing Haaland can do from here on out to win it imo.

Again, Messi has the most goal contributions of any player in Europe for club and country this season. Whatever you think about the strength of the French league, it remains a fact. Can we please stop this lie that if he won it he would be winning it 'for 7 games'?

Even though those 7 games are by far the most important in the football calendar, he would not be winning it just for that. People act as if it's a situation like Ronaldo in 2002 when he was literally injured for 2 and a half years before the WC and still won the Ballon D'Or. It is not.

He also doesn't seem to be an arsehole he was genuinely concerned about Pereira when he was on the floor.

Wasn't Ole who was the inept one as he was their manager, think it was down to Jose and Butt who weren't convinced

Mourinho was sacked over a year before. Ole couldn't guarantee Haaland playing time because he was giddy with you know who, and Martial being the future CF. Mourinho would have creamed himself having tall, physical, fast clinical CF like Haaland offered to him.

Butt role doesn't allow him but big of a say at recruitment for the academy, let alone first team business. If Haaland were only offered a transfer to our U23 then it's correct decision to go to Dortmund to become first choice Czf and playing Champions League.

I am talking about when he was at Molde which was even before Salzburg or Dortmund

Mourinho was sacked before Haaland moved on January to Salzburg. Haaland Sr. did advise his son well to pick his move of clubs for his development. He should be well connected to get his son to join City academy which is also highly rated, but having his son going through the rank. Going to Salzburg to get CL football, and Dortmund to keep up with skyrocketing developing rate was perfect timing. Moving from Salzburg to Dortmund was the only time we could have made ourselves a suitor for him.

It's different having a dad who got experience at top flight. Non football family may not have advised their son career pick as well. In this age, it's not all rosy joining big club's academy at young age, only to never break through. City had their fair share of bleeding talent too. Fringpong, Pedro Porro, Romero Lavia Ibrahim Diaz are latest well known players who joined City but couldn't break through.
