Peter Kenyon has said he would not be able to conclude a deal for either Escude or Burdisso this season.
"It's probably not going to happen now before the deadline, but we would be interested in getting both players here some time next year," he said.

However Kenyon was hopeful he could land a new keeper before Saturday. With Fabien Barthez out with a hip injury and out for several weeks.
"We are still looking at that and could possibly do that before Friday.
"We are a bit light in that department, although Roy Carroll has done well.
"If we could identify a keeper that would be something we'd look at.
"The goalkeeping situation is probably the biggest surprise for us and that is down to injuries."
 
I can't help but wondering how is it such a (non too great site) gets those quotes while the rest of the world doesn't.
 
Still, haven't seen it on any forum or any sites, and those things rarely slip through the net of just about everybody.
 
Still, you can't help but feel that no new signings are going to materialise the closer we get to Saturday.

Eidur has been linked again for 7 million according to teamtalk.

Most likely Bullshit I know, but it would be our best option.
 
Time is really running short, and it's really disappointing that we're not going to get any more players. One Rio won't solve every problems we encountered last season, I afraid.

For me. No new striker = no trophies this season.

I'm dissapointed but realistic. Ruud and Ole just can't sustain our attack for a full season on their own, with brief cameos from Diego.

Shame. But there you go.

If we bring our expectations down a peg or two perhaps we won't be as gutted come the end of the season when we end up 3rd again.

Someone like Gudjohnson would have made all the difference IMO.

I'm not writing us off completely, but will just take it as it comes.

I've a nasty feeling we will only take 1 point from our next 2 matches as well.

While I appreciate your concerns I dont share them.

We CAN and WILL win (at least) the Prem with our current squad. Our attacking play was superb all last season, it was in defence that we struggled. With Rio and there emergence of O'Shea we'll do fine.

Rio has to stay clear of injuries of course, but in him we finally have a true leader at the back. Its what SAF has been after for some time. He said his big problem with Stam was his lack of authority (in terms of marshalling the defensive unit).

Rio showed the other night that he's in charge of organising the defence.

Worry thee not, we WILL win trophies this season.

Cheers. Didn't want to be too gloomy, but I'm just frustrated. I would be happy to see one of our younger players given a chance. Doesn't have to be a big name. Just feel we need another striking option.

Are you concerned cos Forlan isnt scoring (if so, we have to have faith - SAF knows best) or is because you genuinely believe we need 4 strikers?

I've seen about five different pictures of Ricardo, and he looks like a different fella in each. Whats going on!

No, I like Forlan, and think he can do well IF given more than 2 minutes at the end of games. It's Sir lex who needs to have faith in Forlan IMO.

I've been saying we need a fourth striker since we sold Andy Cole. Someone with a bit of pace and an eye for the onion bag.

Sadly my worst fears have come true.

I hope my 1 point from Sunderland and Boro games prediction doesn't also come true.

There is very little team spirit at the moment.
