Zlatan 7

EAP Tactics

Formation: 5-3-2

No intro needed for Sepp Maier other than a GOAT in that position. A strong central defensive trio led by Augenthaler, a classic libero, solid and versatile to roam all over the backline and defensive midfield cutting off passes and putting in some crunchy tackles. He's very comfortable on the ball too making precision runs to support the attack. Flanking him are Forster & Gentile, two no nonsense stoppers comfortable centrally and out wide.

Demyanenko & Alves are top shelf wingbacks able to able to deliver as wingers too. Speed, able to carry the ball, good crossing, they can do it all. With the extra cover offered by the 3 man defence, their offensive abilities will be utilized in full.

A hardworking and strong midfield trio in Zagallo-Simeone-Tigana. Simeone will be the most conservative of the three (not a holding/pivot) and Zagallo the most attacking in his comfortable LCM/LAM/LIF hybrid role and Tigana providing all round B2B bridge.

Hoeness-Muller is a proven combination winning 1974 WC, 1972 Euros (runner up in 1976) and 3 consecutive European Championships in 1973, 1974 & 1975. Hoeness is a hard working team player who's very versatile and comfortable all over the forward line (LW, CAM, RCM, RAM, RIF, RW). Awesome workrate and a speedy runner he's compliments Muller in a proper well rounded attack.

Zlatan 7 Tactics

Romario to pair up with Batistuta with the creativity of tugay behind them.
Viera with a box to box role but can sit back and make a 2 with de Rossi if giggs makes runs down the wing/ into channel.
De Rossi sitting behind them.

middle park would be madness, would actually pay to watch this carnage but reckon game decider is alves vs le sucks

Le Saux being picked in a draft where fullbacks are unrestricted is quite a feat.

Tbh, I can't in good conscience vote for Zlatan when he inexcusably left Dunn on the bench.

How often did Tugay play AM? I think Zlatan might have been best to go 3412 with De Rossi as sweeper and Tugay and Vieira as a double pivot with Giggs in a free AM role, like he played in the Champions League on occasions. When Giggs was a bit out of form and had links to Inter, the rumour was they wanted to play him as a 10.

I thought tugay could be quite lazy so give him more of a free role with cover behind, he’s get ripped to shreds I’d have thought in the centre with just viera

Both very fair points

With a back 3 it could have worked I think although I prefer the 442. Romario and Batigol is an exception front two btw.

shape is weird(irrelevant tbf) and some players role are odd(zagallo specially) and is a bit light in the final third

I also would personally play Tigana and Simeone in the traditional Argentine fashion with Tigana as a #5 whose job is to sit in front of the defence and organise it defensively while setting the offensive tempo with Simeone playing in the role he played in this set up of a roving box to box ball winning midfielder.

Both Zagallo and Hoeness have immensely work rate off the ball.
Both are excellent at dropping to midfield and carrying the ball up.
Both are excellent in wide areas and can effectively function as Inside and/or Wide Forwards on respective flanks.

Tigana and Simeone in a B2B role along with Zagallo and Hoeness ability to drop back effectively bridges my midfield and attack.

What do you find weird about my team @Gio @Himannv @Šjor Bepo thought it was a straight forward 532/352.
It's sooo unnecessarily defensive and the shape is off as well. I like Zagallo and Hoeness but they are the wrong fits for this to work in terms of getting the ball forward and progressing the game quickly and incisively. Just feels like you've set this up for long balls over the top as your main form of attack and even for that tactic I wouldn't say you have the best personnel.

Kind of plays into Zlatan's hands a bit as he has a worse defense and a wonky midfield but his attack is devastating and he has more opportunities to use it here. Honestly, if he just played Macca it'd be a no brainer to vote for him. Your wingbacks whipping balls in to Muller is probably your best source of goals.

Finding that a bit strange as the only long balls you are likely to see are crosses from the fullbacks. Neither Zagallo nor Hoeness were ever proponents of the long ball. Hoeness especially was very quick with the ball on his feet. He did 100m in 11s or something like that. A very Rooney'esque #9.5

Just a 4 min watch, but you'll see how he drops well into his own half and bring the ball forward either through the middle or right flank. There really is no over the top long balls. Additionally, this also showcases his interchanging positions with Gerd Muller.

Another classic goal, where he uses his pace to beat the defenders.

You're joking but this is how the cool kids do the formations nowadays.

Like it (did watch their videos before).

Still think Edgar's slightly asymmetrical approach which is here in display edges it. By a whisker!!
