Manchester United eye swoop for Brazilian star Nilmar

Brazilian striker Nilmar is being tracked by Manchester United as they weigh up a £20million bid.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson badly needs to strengthen his attacking options after losing both Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez this summer.

And the exciting Nilmar, 24, is one option as they look to revamp their squad.

Old Trafford scouts are out in force at the Confederations Cup where Nilmar, has taken his tally of Brazil caps to eight.

Agent Jorge Mendes, broker of Ronaldo's world-record transfer to Real Madrid, is said to be involved.

Nilmar flopped after joining Lyon for £5m in 2004 but has now returned to form for his club Internacional.

great another fecking brazilian, can we develop the ones we have first? and why do we want one who couldnt even cut the "moutarde" in ligue 1?

racist? :p

seriously though, i don't know anything about Nilmar, but the fact that he's Brazilian shouldn't really be a detractor. His previous failings in Ligue 1 could be more telling, but different players have differing success in different leagues - horses for courses and all that.

I didnt even know he was in their Confed Cup squad.

Internacional are expecting Nilmar to attract considerable interest over the summer after reports linked Manchester United with the striker.

The Brazilian club insist that they are yet to receive any offers for the player but reports in England suggest the Premier League champions have sent scouts to the Confederations Cup, where the 24-year-old is representing Brazil.

The frontman had a disappointing spell with Ligue 1 club Lyon in 2004 where after scoring twice on his debut he failed to net again that season.

However the Brazilian has begun to rebuild his career back in his homeland with Internacional, where he has a record of a goal every other game.

"Now the interest will start coming, but there are no offers yet," Internacional vice-president Fernando Carvalho told Band.

Serie A club Napoli have also been strongly linked with Nilmar but the player's agent, Orlando da Hora, stated that would not be an option after the Italian club backed out of a deal at the eleventh hour two years ago.

"He won't go to Napoli now for any money," he said.

Internacional currently own 70 per cent of the player while third-party Delcyr own the remaining 30 per cent, a scenario which is commonplace among South American players

So you can rule this one out.Don't think the club wants to deal with third parties again

Used to have high hopes for him, and judged by that goal he scored a while ago (arguably the best goal scored anywhere this year) he still knows how to kick a ball about.

That said, I very much doubt United are even interested.

I do reckon he will be able to revive his career in Europe pretty soon though, but can't see it being in England. A mid-table to top-5 team in Spain could suit him.

Or why not Milan? But then, he isn't in his 30s just yet..

After watching him give wes a nightmare against england I hope SAF maybe takes a look at the kid. Lightning kick, good technique and young.

£20 million? :D

He's been on average, rubbish for Villarreal this season, only recently looking like a player with a first team future. Did have a good game against England though. I can also remember him missing a sitter against us for Lyon a number of years ago.

Starting to look a good player for Villarreal. He is exceptionally quick and gets plenty of chances because of it. If he could finish more consistently he could be a top player. The world cup could be a big chance for him to impress and Fergie has already tipped him to impress

He was terrible against us for Lyon, but has come a long way since then. I still remember the sitter he missed.

I rate him highly still feel we havent seen the best of him anywhere yet. Maybe that player will never emerge put he certainly has something about him. Difficult start to his career in spain with villareal being so out of sorts for the last 12 months. Rossi's star has dimmed somewhat aswell over the last year but Im sure he'll end up back in Italy sooner rather than later.

04/05, he was about 19 and there was some hype about him before the match. He looked decent but fluffed his lines, one of the chances was guilt edged.

O okay.. Never knew he dipped his feet in European football before!! Yeah he was very hyped up when he was playing for the U19's for Brazil.. Him and Daniel (Dani Alves now) were impressive.
