Manchester United are stepping up their interest in IFK Goteburg midfielder Niklas Barkroth.

Swedish sources say United have been following the 19 year-old midfielder for the past two years and are now accelerating their interest.

United are being kicked into action by Juventus and AC Milan, which have both made tentative enquiries after the midfield dynamo.

Barkroth has been likened to Napoli star Marek Hamsik and boasts the record of being the youngest player to appear in Sweden's top-flight.

'In 2007 he became the youngest player ever to play in the Allsvenskan. At just 15-years-old he made his debut with IFK Gothenburg against Brommapojkarna. In 2008 he became one of the youngest players ever to score in the Champions League, when he scored a brace in the preliminary round against Murata from San Marino. In November 2007 he underwent a week-long trial with Manchester United.'

2 years ago he looked special - now he looks like a talented played for sure - but he doesn't look that special anymore
