Nikica Jelavic says Manchester United want him... but he's concentrating on Rangers' SPL glory | Mail Online

Nikica Jelavic has claimed that Manchester United are interested in signing him.

The Rangers striker has been in superb form recently, with four goals in his last five SPL outings helping to push Walter Smith’s side to the brink of their third successive title.

Reports in Croatia have suggested that has attracted the attention of the Old Trafford giants, with Jelavic now saying his agent has made him aware of possible interest.

The 25-year-old made it clear, however, that his only focus was on ensuring Rangers wrapped up the championship with victory at Kilmarnock on Sunday.

‘I know that United are interested,’ the £4million signing from Rapid Vienna told media in his homeland. ‘My agent has established contact but that’s all that I know right now.

‘My agent has mentioned a figure of 15 million euros and I came to Rangers for
five million euros, so it would be a big gain for the club.

‘However, I would only think of a transfer in the summer. I’m fine here and enjoying every moment. The Rangers fans give me goosebumps. They really love me now.

‘I am looking forward to the Kilmarnock game on Sunday. If we win that match, it will
be the first title that I have won where I have been one of the key figures. I would call it
my first real title.’

Despite missing three months of the season with an ankle injury, Jelavic has scored 18 goals in all competitions for Rangers.

He is under contract at Ibrox until 2014, leaving the club in a strong position should any summer interest from elsewhere develop.

Anyone seen him play?

haha

hahaha

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

HAAAAAAAHAHAHAAH

BWUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Ahem.

New contract.

He is a fecking spastic, ive watched him in a couple of games.

I think my Gran is quicker than him, he would be behind our defence when we are on a counter attack

Not United quality. Don't think there's any interest from United and don't see why would Sir Alex want him anyway since he's nothing then average player.

My agent this, my agent that. Sounds like another muppet looking for more money

He's the new Kris Boyd

He's nothing like Boyd - he's on another level entirely.

Good technical finisher, excellent from a dead ball, useful in the air, nice touch, bit slow, average strength.

Good enough for the Premiership certainly (although perhaps better suited to a continental league) but obviously not good enough to start for United.

Has banged in a few this season which is a given for any striker worth their salt in Scotland, but what's impressed me has been the quality of some of the goals.

God the SPL has some fecking shocking defences.

Rangers striker Nikica Jelavic has revealed he could not reject a move to Manchester United if the Premier League giants came calling.

Jelavic enjoyed an impressive debut season in the SPL having scored 16 league goals from 23 appearances.

The Croatia international is aware of speculation linking him with a move to the UEFA Champions League runners-up, although he insists he is happy in Scotland.

However, should an offer from Old Trafford be forthcoming then he would have to give the move serious consideration - stating the English giants are a hard club to reject.

Jelavic would move if he had the opportunity to join United, although he says he would not simply jump ship for any Premier League side.

"If Manchester United make an offer for me then I couldn't stay in Scotland."

Quotes of the week

"Moving to another club? No, that's the last thing on my mind," Jelavic told Jutarnji List.

"I'm enjoying Scotland. My life is fantastic. I like being here as a footballer. The most important thing is I see that my family is happy too. So there's really no reason for me to move.

"Manchester United? Well, that would be of course very hard to reject. But I only read about Red Devils in newspapers.

"Of course I'm happy to be linked with such a great club, but I really don't know anything about this. Me and Walter Smith, who knows Alex Ferguson very well, joked about this stuff.

"He was telling me, that Fergie is building team for me to fit in. But in reality I doubt that he would talk with Ferguson about his players... But of course, if Manchester United make an offer for me then I couldn't stay in Scotland.

"United is a club you can't say no to. If Newcastle United call then I'd stay in Glasgow, no doubt."
:lol::lol::lol:

Exactly.

Could Everton really afford him? Rangers turned down a bid from West Ham a few days ago reported to be around £6M-£7M

I'll say this now, I don't think he's the striker Everton need. He's quite one-paced and I've not seen a lot to suggest he'll relish the sort of hard running that Moyes demands of his strikers.

In their financial state Everton shouldn't really be spending more than £7m on an average striker who's unlikely to improve them significantly.

Aye, technically he's good enough but physically there's neither the pace nor the strength to be an effective line-leader in the Premiership.
