Walter Crickmer started it all...
The young Reds kicked off their quest for Prenier Cup glory at Carrington this morning with an early morning kick-off on Day 1 with a game Paris Saint Germain of France.

We play four games, two today and two tomorrow before the knockout stages begin.

United's Group games are as follows:

Wednesday

09:30 - PSG
11:30 - San Paolo

Thursday

10:30 - Alta Loma Arsenal
16:30 - Bamba Osaka

The United squad as I know it is as follows

1. Jonathan Sutherland
2. Donald Love
3. Raheem Hanley
4. David Kocsis
5. Tyler Blackett
6. Jack Rudge
7. Kenji Gorre
8. Luke Hendrie
9. Tom Lawrence
10. Ben Pearson
11. Jack Barmby
12. Callum Hallinan
13.
14. James Weir
15. Shepherd Murombedzi
16. Daniel Griffiths

In our first match this morning we got absolutely battered by PSG who scored after 19 minutes and we were lucky not to be three or four down. The whistle blew for half time a minute later with United not registering a shot in the first half.

Two minutes into the second half PSG doubled their lead after a mistake in nets by Sutherland. It got worse a minute later when PSG scored a third.....a great goal in the top corner from the edge of the box. Clearly the game was already over and United made a couple of substitutions late in the second period. PSG failed to add to their score, but it could have easily been a whitewash we were that outplayed.

Even though he was at fault for their second goal, our Man of the Match was Sutherland who made some great saves and was busy throughout.

Team: Sutherland, Love, Hanley, Kocsis, Blackett, Rudge, Gorre, Hendrie, Lawrence, Griffiths, Barmby. Subs: Pearson (9), Hallinan, 13, Weir (2), Murombedzi (7)

I will update and edit this post once I know more.

Into the second half against San Paolo and we are 0-2 down.

Our Number 4, Kocsis was sent off for a professional foul after 9 minutes and we conceded the first two minutes later.

The Brazilians scored a second before half-time.

18 mins into first we had our first shot of the DAY which was blocked.

0-2

Not looking good!

Into the second half San Paolo kept possession and eventually hit us with sucker punch for a third just on the stroke of full time. A curling effort from the edge of the area.

We failed to register another shot during the game.

Final score 0-3.

Team: Sutherland, Weir, Hanley, Kocsis, Blackett, Murombedzi, Hendrie, Rudge, Barmby, Lawrence, Griffiths. Subs: Love (6), Gorre (9), Pearson, Hallinan (11), 13

I think Gorre and Kocsis were supposed to be there too.

from manutd.com:
United unfortunately have lost again, by the same score - 0-3. The young Reds started off really well, until losing a goal - Sao Paolo then scored a second from a harshly-awarded penalty. The Brazilians then wrapped it up with a third goal in the last minute. It seems that the Reds' draw has not been kind (thank you Sir Alex and Sir Bobby!) as Sao Paulo and PSG are strong favourites for the trophy. Other clubs are in action this afternoon but United's next match is tomorrow - see the Premier Cup site for details.

Have no idea which twin it is, but they where in the 2005 section on the competition website. Wonder if any more players will be spotted at this years tournament.

My money is on the 1st one being Rafael & 2nd one Fabio..

Looks like the other way round to me. Or both Fábio. The first one is Fábio anyway :D

Just watching the highlights now, missed most of the lineup but 9 is Tom Lawrence and 16 is Daniel Griffiths.

MUTV are only flashing the team up for a split-second and I don't have Sky+, couple more though:

4 = David Kocsis
12 = Callum Hallinan

They have 15 down as someone called Murumbezi, not Kebbie.
They have 7 down as Gorre, 2 down as Love, 6 down as Rudge and 8 down as Hendrie. Lord knows if any of those are correct.

Kocsis was the one who got sent off against Sao Paulo, deemed to be last man when he took down one of the Brazilians.

Has Kebbie now joined us?

They came across two very strong, physical and dynamic sides from what I could see from the highlights and they will have learned a lot. The sending off was probably correct but up until that point we looked competitive.

The keeper looked very good, Hendrie showed some nice touches in midfield, and Barmby. Hopefully they can score a few goals and get some better results tomorrow. They seem to try and play football in the right way, sometimes overplaying it. PSG and Sao Paulo looked a lot more direct. Some of the finishes were exceptional too.

PSG looked a huge side in comparison to us - even our taller players like Blackett and Kocsis look quite slightly built while they had some really poweful players.

I think the squad listed above looks about right now.......so thanks for all the input.

The squad is very similar to that that participated in the Marveld Tournament with Murombedzi probably being a triallist/guest.

By process of elimination the reserve keeper is probably Michael Cottrill who is named in the official programme.

The number 9 for PSG Hervin Ongenda who scored their 3rd goal is rated as one of the best prospects ever in France he only turned 14 so is playing a year above his age group.

We beat Alta Loma Arsenal 1-0 this morning, Jack Barmby with a wondergoal apparently.

And a 2-0 win over Gamba Osaka this afternoon, a much better day. Only missed out on the quarter finals on goal difference as it turns out.

As it is, we play AC Thonburi tomorrow morning, and I think I'm right in saying we'll play either Orlando Pirates or MTK Hungaria later on depending on who wins/loses in the morning. Essentially competing for ninth place.

We beat Gamba Osaka 2-0. Needed 7 more goals to go through to the semis.

2 clean sheets, 2 wins and a few goals. Great day for them after yesterdays disappointment. Playing the 2 strongest sides back to back was always going to be difficult, good to seem them bouncing back so well.

Definately shows some character.

Arsenal 1-0 (Barmby).
Cottrill
Love Weir Blackett Hanley
Murumbedzi Lawrence Hendrie Pearson (Rudge) Barmby
Grifiths (Hallinan)

Oskaka 2-0 (Hendrie2).
Cottrill
Love (Kocsis) Weir Blackett Hanley
Murumbedzi Lawrence Hendrie Pearson Barmby
Grifiths
What I could see from MUTV on the last game.

United v Alta Loma Arsenal

Team:

13. Cottrill

2. Love
14. Weir
5. Blackett
3. Hanley

15. Murumbedzi
10. Pearson (midget)
9. Lawrence
8. Hendrie
11. Barmby

16. Griffiths

Subs
6 Rudge for 10 Pearson
12. Hallinan for 16. Griffiths

Lawrence looked bright first half, Pearson playing a deep lying midfield role looked very good technically. We looked a bit more competitive, the goal from Barmby was a cracker, showed good strength to roll the defender on the right hand edge of the box and curled a dipping shot into the top left corner, totally unsaveable. He looked very lively.

The American side seemed to start better, and were generally taller and more physical however we played the more incisive football and the change in system to 4-5-1 seemed to suit us, and we created a few more chances than previous days, our keeper rarely tested.

They only showed brief higlights of the Gamba Osaka game - two scrappy goals from Hendrie (who was captain). Barmby looked prominent again.

We lost to AC Thonburi on penalties this morning after a 0-0 draw, currently playing Orlando Pirates for 11th place (0-0 at HT).

We were 1-0 up at HT vs Arsenal, not sure about Gamba though (or on today's teams, my gf was watching Big Brother when the highlights were on  ).

Looking at the schedules, all three highlights programmes are repeated back-to-back at half 8 tomorrow morning.

Thornburi 0-0 (pen1-3:Barmby missed, Hallinan scored, Hanley missed, Blackett missed (post)).
Sutherland
Love Weir Blackett Hanley
Murumbedzi (Gorre, ht) Lawrence (Kocsis, ht) Hendrie Pearson Barmby
Grifiths (Hallinan)

They didn't show any highlights of that at all for some reason. Don't know if they'll maybe show them in tonight's highlights show.

I just finished watching yesterdays highlights - we were probably a bit unfortunate not to win in normal time. Probably our best attacking performance, particularly 2nd half. Barmby looked very good in particular and there was a good cameo from Gorre. I quite like the look of Pearson and Hendrie too.

We seem to lack a dominant striker at that age group at the moment, the more succesful sides, as well as being more physically developed than many of our lads, seem to have a really strong centre forward.

I was a bit surprised that PSG got knocked out in the Semi's - although Bremen rode their luck, otherwise it would have been a PSG - Sao Paulo final which shows how difficult our group was.

Pirates 0-2.
Cottrill
Rudge Kocsis Blackett Hanley
Murumbedzi Lawrence Hendrie Weir Gorre
Hallinan (Grifiths)

from what I could see.
