Walter Crickmer started it all...
It's been recently announced that United will be participating in the NI Super Cup this year with the tournament starting on Monday 25th July.

United will be sending an U/16 team to Coleraine where the Junior group matches will be:

25/7 v Surf Select (USA)
26/7 v County Fermanagh
27/7 v MK Dons

A draw will then be made for the knockout rounds.

In addition, we are sending our U/19 youth team over to play in two friendly matches against Northern Ireland in a two-legged challenge match. The first will be at Coleraine Showgrounds on Monday the 25th July (19:30) and Wednesday 27th July at Ballymena Showgrounds (19:30). Both games will be all ticket.

More details about tickets, venues etc will be announced in due course.

Looking forward to this.

Thanks MUJAC, I'm real excited about hearing how well the kids under the 18's are going. Nice to see a national win the other day in 14's too.

Are these going to be on BBC or MUTV or somewhere?

I saw the U16 friendlies in NI last season on BBC, but I see this year is the Super Cup returning for the first time since 2019 (due to Covid) so not sure what channel will have the rights to them (if any)?

this is an 06 tournament, so I imagine the younger 1st years will also play

Tonight's game is on the bbc website. Probably need to be in the UK to watch it.

Well - the second half was good in every way that the first wasn't :)

We really are Ethan FC at youth level. Ethan Laird, Ethan Galbraith, Ethan Ennis, Ethan Williams. Think there’s one more that has slipped my mind too.

Thanks mate

Gore was excellent

United quite poor for first 20 mins or so

Northern Ireland worked and pressed really hard but United grew into it and dominated the last hour.

Ennis is turning into a bit of a goal machine.

Remember Liverpool had a few seasons when it felt like half their squads were named Jordan

Was at the game last night. Dan Gore was the best player on the pitch. Looked really good. N Ireland team were fully of energy and pressing for 20 minutes and he didnt get on the ball too much but then he ran the show

U16s won 1-0 from a Berry's free kick. Been unfortunate and wasteful not to score more. Been impressed with Fitzgerald and Ibragimov on midfield today.

Anyone know how Baumann played? I always thought he and Missin lacked physicality in comparison to their peers, but were interesting enough talents (in their own ways) that they could mature into good players as they get older.

Ibragimov changed positions?

Is there somewhere to watch the highlights of the matches other than the Northern Ireland game?

https://www.supercupni.com/news/match-report-co-fermanagh-0-v-1-manchester-united.html Match report from the U16 team from yesterday, they play their last group game today after winning their first game 2-0 vs Surf Select (USA)

Match Report: Co Fermanagh 0 v 1 Manchester United

Manchester United make it two wins from two as they down a spirited County Fermanagh side.

The young Red Devils backed up their opening day win against Surf Select in the junior section thanks to a free-kick goal from playmaker, Adam Berry on the stroke of half-time.

This doesn’t tell the whole story though as County Fermanagh had a goal-bound shot cleared off the line in the final minute.

United were dominant in the early proceedings with Fermanagh goalkeeper, Calvin Brown called into action three times in the opening 10 minutes denying Luke McAnespy and Victor Aigbomian Musa in the process.

This pressure continued to build as the first-half wore on with Brown having to make a smart save after the Reds executed a training ground free kick in the 17th minute.

The highlight of the half though for the young keeper will have been his magnificent reaction save after Finley McAllister’s long range shot took a late deflection.

The keeper however couldn’t keep midfielder Adam Berry’s free kick in the 35th minute out as it deflected off the side of the wall and into the keeper’s bottom left corner.

Considering the dominance Manchester United had in the opening 35 minutes, Fermanagh would have been quite happy only going in a goal down at half-time.

Manchester United didn’t create the same amount of threatening actions in the second-half as substitutions seemed to foil their rhythm as the game wore on.

This wasn’t the case though for Fermanagh as they began to believe they could snatch a draw the longer the game remained at 1-0.

In the last five minutes of normal time the Northern Irish side started to build pressure on their English counterparts, winning throw-ins and free-kicks in dangerous areas.

This late pressure culminated in a last minute scramble in the Man United box which saw the ball cleared off the line as Fermanagh thought they grabbed a historic draw against the Red Devils.

Ultimately it was star man Adam Berry’s free kick which separated the sides but the Fermanagh side showed great spirit and character all night against their Premier League opponents.

This commitment was appreciated by the crowd at Coleraine Showgrounds as they clapped and cheered the boys in green off the pitch.

Manchester United will be looking to stay unbeaten on Wednesday as they play fellow English side MK Dons in Broughshane at four o’clock.

County Fermanagh on the other hand will be looking to get back to winning ways as they play County Londonderry in an all Northern Irish affair at Anderson Park at four o’clock.

U16s drew 3-3 with MK Dons on their third game, with each team scored a goal during the second half's extra time. United started the game with McAllister and Fitzgerald as CB pairing and Oriola at LB so quite exposed and conceded 2 goals after the first 10 minutes, but grew into the game. Kaba, McAllister and Scanlon scored our goals.

United U/16’s today:

Chester
Giggs, Fitzgerald, McAllister, Oriola
Ibragimov, Baumann
Berry
Lacey, Wheatley, Kaba

Halliday (Giggs), Parker (Baumann) at HT with McAllister going into midfield.

Then Scanlon (Berry), Musa (Kaba) and Mantato (Wheatley)

MK Dons incredibly physical and went 0-2 up before Kaba pulled one back on ‘32 with a far post header from Giggs cross.

McAllister scored on ‘50 mins to equalise with a cracking shot from distance. United were on top for long periods then MKD scored a third a minute into injury time. Scanlon then equalised a minute later.

A really good game.

United are through to the SuperCup NI Junior Division final after defeating County Tyrone 3-1 at Coleraine Showgrounds.

United went ahead in the first minute with a Victor Musa header but goalkeeper Will Murdock (son of former United youth player Colin Murdock), conceded a penalty and County Tyrone drew level 10 minutes later. It was a tense match but the deadlock was finally broken when Finley McAllister registered United's second goal on the half hour mark. James Scanlon had been brought down in the box, and after Ethan Wheatley's penalty had been saved, McAllister was on hand to restore United's advantage.

The second half was an even tighter contest with Murdock making a couple of outstanding saves to keep United ahead. Then in injury time, captain McAllister wrapped it up with a third goal for the Reds after Lacey had played Wheatley in and his pull back was converted.

United now play Glasgow Rangers (who have been very impressive throughout the competition) in tomorrow nights' final.

Team: Murdock, Giggs, Mantato, Parker, Fitzgerald, McAllister, Ibragimov, Scanlon, Wheatley, Berry, Musa

Subs: Chester, Halliday (Giggs), Lacey (Scanlon), Baumann (Ibragimov), Oriola (Mantato), Kaba (Musa), Abbas.

Scorers: Musa '1, McAllister '29, '70+3

Surely Manchester United should be beating sides like County Tyrone easily enough? Didn't the 18s beat the national side?

Historically for some reason we don't do too well against the county sides.

Firstly the crowd is usually large and very partisan. The games are incredibly physical with the local referees letting a lot go. The local sides treat it as a cup final.

Thus the United lads are thrown off their natural game. Which is really why we send teams over to this competition and away from the vanilla style football of the Academy to experience a different type of opponent.

The Northern Ireland U/18 team tends to be more technical than physical so we tend to perform better.

It's like an FA Cup tie. The better team SHOULD win but that's not how football works.
