NHL lockout song

i think it's written by a fan, to be honest, i think most of them don't give a damn on what's going on b/w the NHL & the NHLPA, all they want is a hockey season.

Most definitely, the team from my town of birth would sink as a stone if we didn't have Hossa et al. Long may the lockout continue :D .

I agree my favourite team has just signed Gaborik. Long live the lockout!

I support Färjestad. Djurgården is my local team though so I will watch them some time just to watch Theodore.

I'll give you a quick run-down 'Zilla.

The NHL had a collective bargaining agreement (CBA) that ran for about 8 years which is now expired (as of September). Many teams 'lose money' and as a result, the owners are demanding concessions from the players.

The foundation of the owners position is based on 'cost-certainty'. The principle of cost-certainty was first implemented by the National Basketball Association (NBA) and involves indexing league-wide player wages to the revenues of the league as a whole, 54% or there abouts is the NHL offer at this time. This proposal would see league-wide revenues calculated and the cap applied to the previous years player income levels retroactively.

The players refuse to negotiate based on cost-certainty. Their counter-proposal involves the use of a 'luxury tax' similar in structure to that used by Major League Baseball (MLB). The idea behind this method is that a team can spend whatever it wants on players, but pays a 'tax' on dollars spent beyond certain threshold levels. The levels and rate of 'tax' are negotiable from the players' perspective. The money paid by teams as a tax penalty would then be shared amongst teams that meet certain criteria that is yet to be defined.

Thats the basics, as I understand them. Here are links to sites run by both sides:

NHLPA (Player's) site: http://www.nhlpa.com/

It's not acceptable to support the Philly Flyers, they suck eggs.

Look you guys, it's not acceptable to support any other team than the OILERS, it's not my fault I was introduced to hockey by the dynasty team, and yes I saw the 88 Oilers lift the cup.... In other words Gretzky's last game for them. Thus I can say to have seen one of the greatest teams of all time in both football and hockey in my lifetime.....

I agree with the footie bit Tribec, but you must realize that its the Leafs or nothing when it comes to shinny :nono:

Listen to Jacqueline, GO Leafs!

Tell me one Leaf's team of any era, which would have taken the Oilers team of the 80's out!!!! Not a one, sorry that was as close to perfect as you can possibly get. Only the Habs of the 70's can be close to them....

Mind you I do feel sorry for you guys, I mean the Leaf's seem to get so much press in Canada you'd think that hockey revolved around them.

There was no Leafs team that measure up to those Oilers. Hockey does revolve around the Leafs

IF THERE'S NO TIM HORTON, YOU WON'T HAVE TIM HORTONS' :D

kinda bored, so turned on the telly to watch sidney crosby & co. taking on Ovechkin & co.
this canada team's amazing....
now i'm just worrying which team will Sidney joins if there's no NHL draft 2005.... staying with the Rimouski or sign for one of the NHL teams?
and btw...
Canada's dominating in hockey...
olympics (men and women) 02
world champions (men and women) 04
World cup (04)
and now...world junior...
GO CANADA GO!

What about Crosby going to the WHA2?? That may be a distinct option for him, whilst the Nhl is out of commision. I can't see how the Nhl can have a draft if they aren't playing. The only logistical way would be to have the same order as last year, but have a new draft lottery to determind #1 pick. I don't think that is fair and I don't think many GM's would be happy to accept that.

As for Team Canada, they rock for sure, this U20's team seems like it's something special.... Crosby is a scoring machine the likes we've not seen since Gretzky.... If he can carry this on in the big league you guys will be honoured to see him live... I'd even consider booking a holiday around this guy, just to say I've seen him play.

the great one said the lockout might last more than 2 seasons... this is NOT good at all...
and for those who lives in Europe, don't you think a lockout here in the North America is a bad thing? yes big names went to play in Europe, but how about your juniors? not to mention those world junior hockey champions games...

In Sweden people think if the juniors aren't good enough to play in Elitserien they shouldn't play. There's a lot of young players that is playing well in Elitserien right now and they are playing because they are good.

What juniors????? Manchester's hockey team is currently off ice, as it's no home rink or should I say the owners don't want to play out of Europe's second biggest arena, as it means losing money. The Standard of hockey over here has dropped over the past few years. It had got to a par with the AHL, but has now dropped back down to CHL standard.

Most of our players were shipped in from Canada anyway, and very few true British players played top notch UK hockey. If anything the NHLer's over in the UK, might just bring the game forward, in that the current juniors have a good example in terms of quality and dedication to look up too.

As for the lock-out, it's a nightmare, as I fear not only for the season and next, but also for some of the teams full stop. Small market teams, like the Flames and Oilers are in danger of folding, as are the other Western Candian team the Cannucks. Added to that the probable collapse of the non-traditional hockey town teams in the States, and we may find the NHL back down to around 24 teams again. In a way though that wouldn't be a bad thing though would it??
