I was once like you, Hairdryer, but I am truly a convert. Muscle is heavier than fat, and by your definition of obese I assume you mean over 300lb. The players have muscle in abundance.

To be honest I don't actually mind watching the sport. The tactical aspects interest me. I think it's a much better sport than Rugby, League, AFL etc.

You must admit though some of those boys are very fat. They may have muscle but when their stomach hangs down to their knees it's a sure sign that you're obese.

But to be fair that's only a few linemen, who's main purpose is to stop people getting past them, which means it's OK to be fat.

America is fat full stop. Its disgusting..

And rugby is much better sport to watch.

I feel sorry for people that actually pay to watch NFl games

Very interesting sport to watch when you watch the highlights where the 6 hour delays between each play is cut.

Don't mind the Yank sports at all though it's fun to take the piss out of them.

An interesting point was brough to my attention a few months back. My bird's cousin is a pretty big fellow, and when I said he is fat but not THAT fat she said that is because what is termed as "not that fat" now, would have been considered morbidly obese a decade ago.

The fact that so many people are hiddeously over weight now kind of blurs what is fat, and what is really fat.

I agree a large portion of the US population is overweight, according to various height/weight charts. However, that does not take into consideration of body fat measurement, which is the correct step to determining overweight, fat, obesity. That said, a rather large percentage of the US society would be classified as fat, and another large percentage would be classified as obese. I believe fat is 20% or greater and obesity is above 30%. The main problem is the fast food industry, which many parents allow their kids to eat fast food many times per week. Also a problem is the lack of fitness activities as many kids would rather sit and watch tv for hours, or play video games. These kids grow older and the overweight and obesity percentages increase as the kids never get into a fitness routine. And they have children that carry these genetics that are changing over the years. So now you have a fat baby who will always have the fat gene. And the cycle continues.

As for the NFL, there are approximately 10 OL on each roster, which is about 320 OL in the league. Of the DL, an average of 9 on each roster, about 300 total. Of the DL, I'd say only half would be "fat" or "obese," however, most are extremely athletic despite their physical appearance. The majority of the OL are fat, but a very athletic. OL like Larry Allen are genetic freaks. He's 6'4", 350, but can run a sub 5.0 40 yard dash, dunk a basketball, and bench press 700lbs.

But you will not find a fat QB, RB, WR, TE, LB, or DB. These guys are absolute workout freaks, often having body fat counts less than 5%.

That wasn't interesting at all Bod.

Sure it is. Society's opinion about what is fat, and what isn't fat, has changed dramatically over the past 10-20 years.

More often then not it seems like people are hideous these days.

It doesn't matter, most of the time, whether you are quick or are "in shape" if you weight 300+ pounds. They are killing their bodies and a very high percentage of them are going to be in medical trouble in a few years. Diabetes is a huge concern for thefatties in the NFL. It is too much for their bodies to cope with, but the lure of a good paycheck is too much to resist.

from washingtonpost:
''a 2003 study reported that 97% of NFL players were overweight and 56% were obese.''

hey didn't one NFL player died in the locker room after a game of obesity? or no? what's his name.. Thomas Herrion?

No, they are specialized positions that often have their own coaches. The coaches have original names like OL Coach. QB coach. RB Coach. WR Coach...ad naseum.
