Seems everyone is pulling their hair out with no game this week so I thought I'd start an NFL thread.

The San Diego Chargers are coming off a really disappointing season. Since they are my favourite team I pick them to win the Superbowl in January. Not sure yet which year, will keep you posted.

With the week off for international football, I find myself really bored. I think I will return to this thread and keep posting in here - to myself - until a more interesting topic arrives. How long will the Mods let me continue amusing myself? We will just have to find out.

The Chargers???

I have Baltimore defeating Philadelphia.

As noted, I don't know which year the Chargers will be there.

Ravens vs Eagles - that's not a bad choice but the Ravens are too dependant on J. Lewis and the Eagles have lost 3 Conference finals on the trot. Patriots (with Corey Dillon) vs Seahawks for me.

They'll be there when they bring back Ryan Leaf in 2012

Shit, you had to go and mention he-who-must-not-be-named, didn't you :nono:

I'm way past that, movin' on, not lookin' back no more! The new saviour is Phillip Rivers (or Doug Flutie).

the chargers have had quite a few he-who-must-not be named picks in their recent history ;) Leaf makes Anelka look positively a managers dream who bakes cookies for reporters....to think you could've had Peyton manning

Chargers picked #2 in that year so its not like we passed on Manning. That would have been worse. Beatherd was there for years and he kept trading #1's. We also kept losing players very carelessly. I think one of our linebackers was shot, another linebacker died in a plane crash in a Florida swamp, etc. etc.
Up until LT was drafted it was a comedy of errors. Now its just a tragedy. Things should get better soon. Jammer and Rivers look quality. The Chargers have their own pick for the next draft (I hear the clock ticking already), we also have the Giants pick from the Eli Manning trade and the Giants are dreadful. Two picks in the top five would go a long way to making them much better quickly.

what about Drew Brees? ;)

For the money Rivers is getting (taken at #4) it will be difficult to not play him. Brees (who I like) will move into backup next year or it means bad things.

before those two picks are traded, have substance abuse problems or go to jail for manslaughter....nothiing has gone right for them since the days of Dan Fouts and it probably never will...they're cursed.

didn't rivers have a 50-something passer rating in preseason?

and why do the chargers have 4 qb's on their roster? flutie gets paid way too much to hold a clipboard. seemed like a smart person to cut, imo. probably why the chargers didn't do it - made too much sense.

Don't say that either :nono: And why the hell are you laughing at me? Oh, the Chargers, right!

I've been a fan since Dan Fouts was there and I can't change now. No, I'll have to wait for them to get better. Then people will call me a glory-hunter. :nervous:

I do sympathize with you R.C. ... always cheered for the Chargers because of the Air Coryell days and I honored them with my second favorite team award....Everything began going wrong when they started wearing the blue jerseys at home and got rid of the gold pants with the lightning bolt :D

Ravens have the best D in the league. Boller just needs to play smart like Dilfer did in 2000 and the D will do the rest. They have the best secondary in the NFL, and any team that has Deion as a nickel back is going to be solid against the pass.

Jamal Lewis is the focal point of the offense, and the OL is solid led by Ogden, but the receivers (Taylor, Johnson, and TE Heap) are good. I think Taylor will have a breakout season.

I see Baltimore winning 10-12 games, finishing either #2 or #3 in the conference (NE, Indy), then dominating defensively in the postseason. I also think the Jets could surprise many and go far in the playoffs.

I picked Philly, but I think they might choke again and not represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. I think Seattle and Carolina have just a good a shot as Philly. Minnesota too if the D is good enough (same for KC in the AFC). I just like seeing Philly fans sad. I can't stand Philly fans. Bunch of pricks.

Keep an eye out on Detroit and Jacksonville, my sleeper teams. And if Baltimore struggles and Palmer plays well for Cincy, the Bengals could take the North.

He got into camp late so I don't worry about that. He looked pretty good in the games, or so I have read.

Probably. They cut Dyson so I have NO idea who is supposed to grab the pumkin.

You think its down to fashion Flashie? But then, I suppose it always is isn't it?

Since we know the Chargers are your second favourite team (because of the uni's), who's first?

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice. Love the NFL and will be going to the Cowboys vs Browns match in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to that even though it's a shite game on paper.

actually the Chargers were my second faves because of John Jefferson and Wes Chandler and Charlie JOiner and Fouts Winslow and Muncie...they had no defense whic is probably why i can't rmember there names.....my #1 is Big D...what can I say...I'm a child of the 70s and I fell for the america's team and the hot cheerleader thing....uncle took me to the super bowl vs. the broncos and I was hooked....and god do I hate the pittsburgh steelers more than anything...we should have had them but fecking Jackie Smith dropped the ball

Dallas should win that game easily. But you never now.

Anyhoo...I'm coming to Dallas in late November and my boy is supposed to get tickets to the Turkey Day game against da Bears. Dumbass is getting married the first weekend of December. So I figured I'd throw him a bachelor party that Saturday after Turkey Day, complete with beer and strippers.

Like the Ravens but without the big record its road trips in the playoffs and thats always tough. They are a team that can win anywhere so I can't say your'e wrong. Road trips in the playoffs will kill the Jets, some injury seems to bite them every year and they are in a tough division. NFC is a bit of a crap shoot and like you don't like Philly fans, bunch of pricks.

Billy Ray Smith. I've forgotten all the other D.

I like the cheerleaders too.

i root for the chargers on the days their cheerleaders wear those throwback powder-blue uniforms, bless their hearts.

Crimey, Cowboys all around then. Well the Tuna is certainly making changes and with a sprightly new quarterback in Big-D things are looking up.

Shite games on paper often turn out to be the most interesting to watch--well, at least in the NFL that is.

Are they still playing at the Qualcom Stadium or have they done what the Padres have done and moved to that Petco stadium?

Looksa great stadium anyway.

Sorry Mark, thread got lost :nervous:

Yea, they still play at Qualcom (I still think of it as the Murph).

Manning is on his way to throw about 1000 Yards against the Packers.

This game is a bloody shoot-out.

I'm watching the damn thing. I also happen to be playing against Manning in my fantasy league - Oh well, there's always next week

New england patriots look good when ever i see them on channel 5. Brady is a good quarter back.

Nevermind, I won anyway. 20-points from my Kicker (Carney-NO), I'm 3-0.
