NFL 2025 | Post Draft Analysis - a bit of Shedeurenfreude?

Diggs visiting Patriots, massive upgrade even if he has 1 leg

The Tee Higgins contract is frightening, he only has 30m(including a 20m signing bonus) guaranteed and he could easily be cut at any point from post june 2026. His agent had to be bribed by the Bengals.

Russ is riding with the Giants this year. Short deal, so it doesn’t rule out a QB in the draft; it does indicate the FO is taking no chances with their jobs.

I wonder where the fun will come in this draft; hopefully some teams are higher than current consensus on a few defenders and it pushes the offensive skill positions back thus creating trade opportunities.

This has disaster written all over it

I had Sanders going to NYG in the draft, and whilst the Russ signing is short term, I can’t see them going QB at pick 3 after also signing Jameis Winston.

I think the Browns will go with Carter at pick 2, and now I’ll expect Hunter to go to NYG at pick 3.

Completely changes the board for the Patriots. Everyone has expected them to go with Carter or Hunter at 4. The Will Campbell hype has died down recently and a lot of mocks have him in the 8-12 range now.

Feck sake Russ. If we had Jameis slinging it for the Giants this season Nabers could've legitimately gotten 2k yards.

Still don't see it with Hunter. Think he's a good WR but nothing special, and a very good corner but also definitely nothing generational. Assuming he won't translate to the league as a full-time two-way player, I don't see the point in drafting him that high but looks like I'm on an island with that take.

If he’s already got you on an island, he might be a very good corner after all.

Saskatchewan Roughriders is one hell of a team name.
The first time I heard it on the Simpsons, I was sure it was made up. Greatest team name in all of sports.

The Bills proving once again that they are always one step behind the Chiefs.

Drafting QBs is a bit of a crapshoot these days. For every success, there are one or two disappointments.
To part with the draft pick haul to get Lance should have gotten someone fired, but they lucked into Purdy which has conveniently swept the Lance debacle under the rug.

Yep. Purdy came out of nowhere to bail them out. Otherwise, serious questions would be asked of Lynch. The same can't be said of the Jets who seem to get it wrong almost every year.

Annual League Meeting Snippets New
The league has approved to expand the OT possession rule to the regular season, thank feck.

The have denied the defensive holding automatic firstdown change put forward by Detroit.

The one-sided rugby scrum tush push is on the agenda today/this week.

Not good. The pitch they had for the Eagles opener last year was a disgrace.

A week to draft might and this seems like a pretty average draft. Where does Sheduer Sanders go seems to be the only interesting conversation

It is an average draft. By all accounts there's like three or four "dudes" as I've heard them called and then a whole load of meh. One QB with a first round grade does that. Anyone that reaches for a QB is gonna get panned and since perception seems to be so important, I can imagine that there will be a whole less trading on the first night than normal. The fact that every one of the teams currently holds their first rounder says everything.

My current expectation, for the top 10 is

Titans - Ward
Browns - Hunter
Giants - Could go either way, but since they've got to win this year to keep their jobs - Carter (otherwise Sanders)
Patriots - Campbell
Jaguars - Graham
Raiders - I'm hoping it will go this way, but god knows with a new staff - Membou
Jets - Warren
Panthers - McMillan
Saints - Sanders
Bears - Jeanty

After that its a shit show... the fact that Jalen Milroe is expected to be drafted first round says it all.

  1. TEN - QB Ward
  2. CLE - WR then CB Hunter
  3. NYG - de Carter. Wouldn’t put it past them to do something stupid like draft Sanders. FO is drafting to save their jobs.
  4. NEP - OT Campbell. Had Membou here but Campbell is -400 to go here which is surprisingly high.
  5. JAX - DT Graham
  6. *Vegas - OT Membou *trade: ol’ Pete passes on Beast Mode Jr. to pick up assets from an OT thirsty team and build the team in his image. Probably picks a DB later.
  7. NYJ - de Jalon Walker. They wanted Membou but don’t take Jeanty because they have Breece in this scenario
  8. CAR - de Mike Green. They want Walker to get to them.
  9. NOLA - QB Jaxson Dart. First big surprise. Sanders falls to the Steelers.
  10. CHI - RB Jeanty
  11. -19……don’t care, but a run on DL starts
20. DEN - TreVeyon Henderson in a bit of a shocker. Payton gets his next Kamara instead of his next Ingram (Hampton, Judkins). If the run on DL doesn’t happen then DT Nolen or Harmon goes here.

This may be one of those years where most of the QBs struggle at the next level. My sleeper pick is McCord.

Despite all the chat about how crap the QB class is I'm still expecting 5 to go in the first round (Ward, Sanders, Dart, Milroe, McCord). Despite opinions on their ability, teams do daft shit for QBs. Wouldn't be surprised to even see some trades to come up and get Sanders or Dart of they're sliding.

As for Dallas I'm expecting a WR or CB. McMillan, Golden, Barron or Johnson. Obviously we'll go Jeanty if he's there, but he won't be. Really hope we don't take a different RB at 12.

First time I've heard the name of McCord mentioned this draft across all media platforms. I'd wager Shough goes well before McCord. And if there is going to be five QBs taken on day one it will the likes of Dart, Milroe, and Shough after the first two obvious selection, assuming Sanders goes before Dart.

Yeah I see 3 QB's at most in the first round, might be 2.
Normally I would agree, but it only takes one team, or better, one owner, that is desperate to save his franchise. Especially the late first round picks could be attractive due to the extra year for rookie contracts.

Teams do mad things for QBs. Personally think 3 are a lock (Ward - Titans, Sanders - NY or Vegas and Dart - Steelers) but the fact Milroe has been invited makes me think he'll go too. I know there are examples of that and they haven't been taken, but don't think that will be the case this time.

Well Milroe being invited is odd, and I did put Dart in the top 10. But if there's a wildcard here it's Shough.

And I think the run on O & D lineman in the mid-1st will make that 5th year on a QB look less appealing relative to a potential foundational piece in the trenches if they hit their potential.

Milroe is similar to Richardson - basically freakish athletes (or RBs if you want) but erratically playing QB - and if not for two top 10 rated prospects he may have vaulted up the board ala Richardson such is the obsession with finding franchise guys. He could blossom in the NFL but he better get more accurate with his passes.
