Wanted to keep a track of this last year and this year the United website has kindly started a list for me. Will update it as and when. Feel free to add to the list.

At the moment we are expecting 12 players at a total cost of just over £180 million.....plus one player whose value is not stated.

With the £165 million kitty we apparently have we can afford them.

well.......id be fecking devestated if we signed any of them......especially for those fee's

Sanchez, Neuer, Adler, Stekelenburg, Pastore. They've all been linked with us recently and that's just off the top of my head.

Daniele De Rossi: Roma.....Midfielder.....£18million - Daily Telegraph

David De Gea: Atletico Madrid....Goalkeeper....£15million - Daily Mail

These two would be good business.

de rossi maybe!!!

world beating young keepers quickly turn into cross shy limped wristed liabilities

Seriously, why do people rate De Rossi? He's crap.

How much have you seen of him mate? He's clearly not crap.

Lots and lots, over his career, I follow Italian football. I'm being a bit harsh with crap but he's not that great either. He doesn't offer anything we don't have.

Point taken.

I'm sure he would cement a place in our midfield, the thing is he's something of a rarity nowadays because he's good to have at both ends of the field. Plus I think he's got a good fighting spirit and solid technique.

So's Park Ji Sung and Darren Fletcher. I really don't get this love in for him, he's incredibly inconsistent and has been his entire career. He capitualted to supposedly lesser players. Maybe it's the team he plays in but I've watched the lad a lot over the last 5 years and he's never impressed me. He doesn't offer anyhing we don't have already. What am I missing here, have people been watching a different player than me.

Yes, I suppose we don't know what De Gea's character is, he hasn't really had to deal with a huge mistake yet.

I've seen him making loads of mistakes recently in La Liga with the most recent one being the shocking keeping for Ozil's goal.

I agree with you in that I think he gets too much respect from various corners of Europe without ever actually being superb.

However, I do think that he is a lot, lot better than all of our midfielders defensively and I would be happy to see him patrolling in front of our back 4 with Fletcher and Anderson as the two other midfielders. The flip side of seeing this is that I would not want to flop another £18m on a midfielder that is so obviously inconsistent.

If we can get him for half the quoted valuation, it'd be worth a look

Finally and thank you, someone who's actually repsonded with reason. All I've been getting all day is, he'd walk into our midfield, he's a powerhouse and all the usual crap I've heard about him over the last so many years. I guess yeah having him as a defensive player in a 3 man midfield could work but as you say, at at least half the cost being quoted.

There is still 'some' reason left in the world. Not much on here mind, but you get it occasionally.

I think de Rossi's qualities might have solved the most frustrating parts of our game from this season. I think we have struggled to retain possession when winning it back on the edge of our own box and supply our attack-minded players. Carrick was phenomenal for this in his first two seasons but has lacked in this area over the past 18 months, and as a result we look like we have struggled against team.

He would certainly fit well in to our team as I see it but he would need to have a lot more discipline in his game and not bombard from box to box. I also use the word might in relation to solving problems as you never know what will happen and nothing can be predicted (except the rest of this season week by week, apparently).

On another note, and admittedly I am no connoisseur of Europe football, there must be other players that would be available over de Rossi who are better and available for a similar price tag?

Add Rene Adler, Manuel Neuer and Thiago Silva. Stories from Italian and German media the past days.

Yeah saw that Thiago Silva story earlier, couldn't tell if the quotes were real or not.

d.

I fully expect this to happen - every single one of them. Especially given the warchest, the 11 players Rooney was promised and the validity of the English press in reporting future transfers

I wouldn't be devastated but i wouldn't be that happy either. If, and it's a extremely big if, we were to spend £180m in the summer, i am sure we could do better than those particular players. Out of those on the list i have seen there are not many who would improve us a great deal, apart from maybe Bale and i certainly can't see that 1 happening.

Out of them all, £15m for Douglas Costa seems the only reasonably priced option who could give us something extra.

I saw this in the De Rossi thread too. I can't believe you are saying De Rossi is overrated and crap. I agree 20m might be a little too much for a 27 year old because there is going to be absolutely no resale value but he is still going to be good for the next 5-6 years.

I've watched him loads over the last 5 years and he's never been as good as he seems in peoples minds. If he's to be good for the next 5-6 years then he really needs to improve his game. Can anyone think of any individual game where he has really shined. Even when Italy won the world cup he wasn't that great.

He has not been good for the last 5 years? What in the world are you talking about?

That arrivals list is just a whole new squad there. We have strikers to midfielders to defenders to GK's.

As in I have seen him play a fair bit over the last 5 years and have never been impressed with him. If we wanted a player in that mold Mascherano would be a better signing as he's far more consistent and effective in his performances over the last 5 years, including his bench exile at Madrid. I rate De Rossi at the same level as the Muntari's if not below him. People see him score the odd goal or make a good pass and act as if it's the work of brilliance. I've watched him constantly lose the midfield battle and cost his team the game. Not because of his commitment he is very commited but by the lack of his consistency, I have also seen his constant petulance and nasty side that everyone else seems to miss. We have far better players in our midfield already and he wouldn't improve our squad a bit. There are far better options available.

i seriousley do not get this thing with jack rodwell. he isnt even first choice at everton.
im not one of these who craics on that i watch every single game in every single league (like some of the dicks on here) so admittedley i have not seen a great deal of him. what i have seen he's looked ok. potentially could be a good / very good player. he has the advantage of being a big, strong lad but what has he done to justify a £25m price tag???? mehmut ozil and rafael van der vaart moved for a combined fee of around £25m last summer. i appreciate that they where out of contract/favour AND the price for the latter would have been more had we shown interest. But what i suppose im trying to say is that i would be absolutley devestated if we shelled out £25m on rodwell, as for £40 for him and henderson?????? We have got to be looking at better players than those two!!!!!!

I maybe wrong and the great man may see potential in them that i dont and they could go on to be topclass players but at the minute, and i think for the next few years a midfield pairing of anderson and fletcher would dominate a midfield pairing of rodwell and henderson.

i am all for siginging young english talent. but we are talking about replacing world class players in scholes and giggs (and keane still to a certain extent) so i would like us this year to shell out some serious money on a central midfield player who is first choice. somebody who is going to be our main man, number on central midfielder. ideally a 24 year old roy keane but as thats not possible i dont know who the answer is. but in my opinion, rodwell isnt and henderson certainly isnt.

Rodwell hasn't kicked on this season as some thought he would. He'd be a risk and I think a lower initial fee with add-ons would be far more likely. His price has probably come down a bit this season.

regardless, unless we could pick him up for £5m and he'd be happy playing a similar role to gibson for the next 3-5 years OR improve dramatically then he isnt good enough to keep out fletcher, anderson and carrick even in the form they have shown this year!!! id prefer to see paul pogba pushed on!
