Pujara getting a good century, also amusing to see him blatantly shielding Dhoni from the new ball late in the day. Disappointing they picked Raina, I'd have liked to see people like Tiwari or Badri given a chance, hardworkers who are experienced.

Also alternatively we can just drop Sehwag to the middle order(he can't play the new ball anymore in foreign pitches) and play Rahane.

Sadly we have a whole bunch of home series coming up so the priority will be to get people like Raina and Sehwag's confidence up for those. No consideration will be given to how they might perform overseas.

New Zealand have to be the worst test playing nation currently.

I'd fancy them to lose in Bangladesh.

Yep, bad time to have this whole list of home series. After the recent debacles away from home, another poor series would have ensured new guys getting a chance. Raina's never going to make it as a test player imo, much better off giving others some chances.

Btw how fecking weird it was to see someone else batting at no.3 and no.5 other than Dravid and Laxman?
:(

Yeah, we'l never replace Dravid. Once in a lifetime player.

Yep. Still makes me laugh that Sachin who debuted 7 years earlier than Dravid is still going on.

I think it's excellent that we have so many home series in a row. If Laxman and Dravid had been playing in those, that'd have been an issue. This gives a great platform to the likes of Pujara, Rahane, Kohli to bed in and have a consistent run of good performances in the team. The only downside is Raina. I would've liked to see Rohit. Or alternatively, Sehwag down the order with Rahane opening.

Rohit gets picked in ODIs because he plays well in the IPL, gets dropped from tests because he does badly in ODIs, gets dropped from ODIs when his T20 form is bad. They need to select players based on their performance in the respective formats.

He has an excellent first class average and should be in at #6. He's actually pretty good at batting with the tail, as well. Some of his better ODI knocks have come batting with the tail.

And well done to Pujara. I expect him to be our long-term #3.

Same here Crappy. I dont even remember the last time i watched a test series at home.

Ashwin's bowled well.

Zaheer's been very rusty. Yadav has bowled decently..

Don't really need the pacers considering the spinners can bowl 100 between them and wrap it up.

Yea, they're here to make up the numbers really. Same against WI.

Sachin doesn't look like he has it anymore.

Sachin doesn't look like he has it anymore.

I've said in the cricket thread that he should retire now. Post the world cup his game has gone to that place where he needs to have a serious think. Reflexes seem off a touch and he seems to even play down the wrong line which for someone as talented as him is hard to do unless age is catching up with you.

He's been OK today, but in the other 2 innings, he looked like an out of form Dravid. And that's not a slight on Dravid, it's just that, even when out of form, Dravid refuses to get out and pokes around for eternity. It looks awful.

The bizarre thing is it doesn't make any sense why he's continuing to play in the ODIs. And did you see his last interview on Cricinfo? He said he might stick around for the 2015 WC(and it's in October 2015!). Great player, but some aspects of him leave you wondering "erm..".. he is losing the respect of a lot of people. It's a damned shame.

I hope we don't have a situation where he's regularly getting shit scores, refuses to retire and the selectors can't do anything about it.

I don't think he's lost respect at all. But question marks are beginning to be raised. I see him either proving everyone wrong and getting his touch back or quitting soon after it's evident that he's lost the magic. I can't see him going on and on in poor form. He's too much of a winner to do that. Reckon the next home series or two will decide his future (or end it).

Sachin's record has freakishly improved in 4th innings.

After 2007 India has won 6 times chasing 200+ in 4th Innings.

Sachin's record in that is 380 runs, 3 NOs, avg 127, 1 ton, 4 50s

And bowled again. This is another Tendulkar. He simply doesn't get bowled this often. And not against such straight and normal deliveries.

He's important to have on the pitch and in the dressing room as well. Losing Dravid, Laxman and him within one series would have been terrible planning.

It's not like we have a bunch of kids apart from him. Sehwag, Gambhir, Zaheer, Dhoni etc have loads of experience.

And as I say that he's got out.

How's the pitch holding up? Has the rain caused some movement for the pacers?

I think he simply wants to keep playing as he says. He has nothing else left to prove or achieve or any other great record to beat. It is no different to likes of Scholes, Giggs wanting to play on as long as they can. Only difference is that they have Fergie to manage them properly while selectors in India lack balls to do anything. They should tell him to retire in ODIs and keep playing in tests as long as he wants

I honestly don't understand why he keeps playing ODI. He has now won the WC. Now retire and concentrate on the tests. In an ideal world, he'd retire on a high and I want him to be retire that way only.

Same here. Achieved everything in ODIs, whats the point in playing them now. Just focus on tests.

Its very strange to see him getting bowled so often.

What a pathetic shot by Raina.

Kinell, Virat Kohli has become world class. What a fecking star.

Yea, for all the talk about replacing the big 3, I think we're well on our way to quite easily replacing them.

These guys aren't flat track bullies, either. And good fielders on top of that.

It's the bowling. Even our spin bowling is ordinary compared to what we've had over the last couple of decades.

Ashwin getting buckets of wickets, but it's against NZ and WI. Fully expecting the wheels to come off on that in test cricket.

And Ojha's a pretty ordinary spinner. Plus, no one seems to be talking about it, Zaheer Khan's been very ordinary. Yadav has potential, but the problem with him is that he bowls great balls and not great spells. He's right now a good limited overs bowler, and bizarrely, he's not in the T20 squad with Dinda preferred over him. Yadav was excellent in the IPL.

Kris Srikkanth has done an unbelievable job of fecking up the Indian teams. We've achieved a bunch of things in spite of him.

NZ, on the other hand, have unearthed 3 cracking seamers. All of them under 23.

Kris Srikkanth is an absolute moron. The fact that Ishant Sharma was in this squad was an absolute shocking decision. I can name you atleast five very promising batsman. I can't name you a single promising bowler. Oh and Zaheer Khan has got fat, it's not acceptable for you to be so far when you're at the top level.

I rate Ojha more than Ashwin bizzarely and I absolutely love Dinda's attitude if someone like Munaf Patel or Sreesanth had an attitude like him they'd be absolute brilliant bowlers.
