i think todays match just highlighted the need for an extra forward. And i dont mean that in any bad way about todays performance which was great overall.
Ole had an off game in front of goal, Forlan looked like he would never score today, and Ruud was sitting with his big toe in the stand.
Yet we really only had Giggs on the bench that realistically could come on and change a game when it matters.
Some of the crosses today were just begging to be put int, particularly Beckhams, who supplied the best string of crosses IMO since the 99 year.
An out and out striker would have had a field day..
Cissee anyone?

Fergie should go for anyone he can regardless of being cup-tied - no point in missing out on next season.

Henrik Larsson anyone?

And Cisse as well.

That would be perfect.

After the good run some ppl seem to think we don't need a striker in Jan. I beg to differ, it could be the difference to silverware or nothing this season.

Whatever happened to giving youth a chance?

Danny Webber and Jimmy Davis have done enough to be given a chance imo.

Why spend big money on a new player who may or may not be here long when we have kids eager to prove themselves.

Celtic won´t sell in the middle of the season. They´re still in the UEFA and they´d burn Celtic Park down if Larsson was sold. Having said that, O´Neill´s contract is up in summer and if O´Neill goes I can see Larsson going, too.

they have to be good enough.

Larsson already said he'll go - when his contract ends in 2004. Celtic might try to cash in on him, but probably not before the summer of 2003. Even though O'Neill said he's willing to keep him until 2004 and not collect anything for him.

I think Nardiello would surprise people, he's got a great scoring record this season, almost one a match.

We'll never know until we give them a go.

Davis and Webber did well on loan and have impressed many.

I would rather play those two then sign Beattie or Larsson TBH.

Webber will be out for a couple of months though.

Too risky to rely on him alone. He hardly got a look in against Leicester.

He should get a first team start at some point this season, to be given a proper chance. Look at the chance we gave Diego.

He had an operation didnt he? I thought he was fit again.

What about Timm? I'd like to know the situation on his hamstring.

Someone on MUTV just said that Robbie Fowler is on his way to OT.........and not just to visit either.

Not heard any more on Timm, was a few weeks ago now, but they're normally 6 week injuries if they're bad. Think though that he has a real problem with his hamstrings - like Giggs, which is a worry.

Ok, we need a new striker, but also a creative attacking midfielder or a 2nd striker, somebody who can dribble defenders, because we can't depend only on crosses and headers. IMO, we need to buy Aimar, Ronaldinho or Del Piero. And Shevchenko to play with RVN.

And today i think we missed Ryan a lot (at the 1st half of the match). :(

how about that leslie ferdinand? or ian wright! they are good strikers

I´d have him for 5m.

Mads Timm is actually like Ronaldinho, or will be in a year or two. But you can't play such an attacking midfielder as a central midfielder in a 4-4-2, unless its the link man in a 4-4-1-1, but what happens to Scholes, our best player this season?

No Scousers at OT.

Used to think that but I´d make an exception here. Would be too good to be true if we could have the pre-injury Fowler for such a sum.

Instead we'd get the bloated, cocaine snorting, mercenary who's as much of a disgrace as Yorke.

Fergie pretty much said in the post match interview on BBC that we weren't going to sign anyone. I can't see anyone really good being sold frankly and what's the point of picking up a cast-off. It's so hard for players to come in halfway through the season and make an impact - don't forget how lost Diego was in his games last year.

The only young player I seeing getting a shout this year is Richardson - Timms injury means he won't be ready until Feb/March and games are too vital then to bring in a kid for his first run. Nardiello may be good - but it looks lke Richardon is getting a chance ahead of him and they essentially compete for the same slot.

So while I share the fears of those of you regarding our lack of depth in this area I think we'll just have to hope that Ruud stays fit, Ole gets his touch back, Forlan plugs away and that the midfield players like Becks, Scholes, Keane and Giggs manage to continue to get on the sheet regularly. I think if this season is to be a success it will be because we have 5 or 6 players in double figures for goals scored - rather than a strikforce of 2 or 3 players dominating the goals.

Worth a try for 5m.

Even though i'm against that idea, seeing him score for us vs Liverpool would be priceless.

That was also what Fergie said before they had Ruud in here for a medical the 1st time round too. ;)

I'm not sure about Scholes. IMO only Beckham, Keane and Veron are playing well (talking about midifielders)

The question now is who we should get, rather than whether we should get. A team which go for every trophies and play so many matches in a season just can't rely on only 3 fowards. In case one of them injured, another one hit a bad form, we will be in a big disadvantage.

Still think we should get David Bellion. He is young ( 20) and has a lot of potential which is good because if United were to get him, SAF could really mold him into a dynamite strike partner for Van Nistelrooy.

Larsson is too old IMO
Gudjohnsen?
Ronaldinho?
Sheva?

Fowler? no please!

Bellion will be at OT
this lad is one for the future

and i do hope a big name striker will
arrive at OT.ronaldinho or cisee

desperately, two goals from our midfielder in Sunderland game. A good pace and good finishing striker is needed. I heard Real Madrid is selling Morientes due to the arrival of Ronaldo, I hope the Spanish International will get our number 9 shirt.

i think bellion would b a better option cos he wouldnt come at a huge price
or if SAF wants to spend big money it should b on ronaldinho or cisse

Yes Bellion is cheap but just how good is this lad? I have never watched him play, but what I know is that he's just a bench warmer in a struggling PL team.
