The new PSP-3001 model (03g PSP) has been submitted to the FCC for testing:

This means the new PSP-3000 model should hit retail shelves soon. Though there have been plenty of clues for months & months now, from unused nids referencing new hardware devices, a reference to a “03g” model in the IPL, that “3000″ graphic on the official Sony site, and most recently, alleged pics of a prototype.

Now it’s just a matter of waiting for the official announcement and the official list of changes. Hopefully some of the rumours that have been floating around turn out to be true (the hard disk drive comes to mind).

With the new PSP-2000 TA-088v3 model that is out now that is completely Pandora-proof you can bet the PSP-3000 will also be completely Pandora-proof. Im sure there would be plenty of people who would only want to buy a hackable PSP-3000. Though you can be sure that when this new model gets here we will all be looking thoroughly for new hacks for it.

If anyone is considering buying one, I'd wait a while.

Probably see this at TGS.

Just got a slim, this just seems to be an attempt by Sony to cut down on homebrewing and bricking.

Thats the reason I got the PSP in the first place

How long after release do you estimate it will be untill homebrew is introduced? I'd give it a day.

They have been the best Gadget/toy that I have ever bought my two boys. They have their phat PSP's since Christmas 2004 and I have to say they still use them on a daily basis. I would considering upgrading them in the future.

I think its worth it if you are not against piracy

It's not having anything to do with piracy as such, but with software in general. If you kill the goose that lays the golden egg, then the industry will go into decline.

'Less than 3 out of 10 games recover costs,' says EIF boss

Edinburgh Interactive Festival chairman Chris Deering has warned the games industry that it must look for new revenue sources as development costs rise and software sales fall.

In a speech opening this year's EIF, Deering said, "Traditional revenue sources will not be sufficient to fund games development. If you look at the very narrow definition of the gaming market, people are saying the software business will be down 20 per cent by 2011 versus this year.

"Something is going to have to be there to make up the difference and take us beyond that threshold," Deering continued. He observed that major games can now cost more than USD 10 million to develop - and up to USD 100 million in the case of titles such as Grand Theft Auto IV.

"My guess and analysis shows that less than 3 out of 10 games recover their development and marketing costs with boxed goods sales," said Deering. "So what's going to have to happen? Creative use of hybrid online and offline advertising revenues, online offline transactions with consumers - these business models must be explored."

According to Deering, the big trends of the next decade will include the growth of internet-served video, the expansion of fanbases into new communities, increased remote data storage and the emergence of global virtual currencies. He also predicted the growth of mobile social networks, TV, GPS and advertising - all of which present the games industry with new opportunities to create games and seek out revenues.

Apart from a few mega hits, most of those 3 in 10 I would think are shovelware.

So apart from a mic and a few other tweaks, it's just got a better screen.

The first one has more light exposure than the second one, i don't think the screen's even been improved that much.

Weaste will be the first one to say :"you idiot devil, can't you see they are both on the same table?"
but the thing is on the first one you can make out the d-pad and the other buttons better than the second one. On the second one (newer one) its either the design to make it darker (the buttons) or it has less light shining on it hence that in itself will provide a better picture, therefore the actual improvement of the screen may only be minimal.

If you don't want to believe a Famistsu hands on, then don't.

I don't know why this always has to become some fanboy bollocks with the likes of 1871_Biscuit gigling like a little girl. I don't give a toss about the new one personally apart from the fact that it exists and it has improved from a technological standpoint. Why the fact that the PSP-3000 exists has to bring out the trolls I really do not know.

There's more light above as you can see, the shadow is cast fully on the one below and not entirely on the one above.

I simply pointed out what I noticed ffs so give it a rest with the "you're a troll" bs. You would have definately done the same if it was a nintendo or ms product and you wouldn't see me calling you a "troll". You point out things (negatives mainly) to do with the consoles made by everyone else apart from sony but that's not "fanboy bollocks" but when others do the same with sony, it suddenly becomes it. Find one quote from me where I've dismissed anything sony, ms or nintendo without giving a reason, or where I've blanked out the negatives of one console completely and only concentrated on its positives?

Oh and had it been ms or nintendo releasing newer versions of their consoles like this, you'd have been on their case. I can point out alot of things you say that can be interpretted as "fanboyism" but I don't as its your opinion, I just challenge them with mine.
