CM - John O'Shea
CB - Mikhael Silvestre
RW - Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Well, it's nearly as good as signing a new player or two. :)

I agree, and it is economical, but are we being so economical because we spent all our money on big money players each summer?

I do think O'Shea might be able to develop as a backup defensive midfielder, given a few years, but he's such a young lad that its good to try him in a few positions to develop his all round game and potential.

Ole has performed very well at right wing, with his crossing being much better than expected, and it might well extend his career with us. I'd hate to see Ole ever leave though I guess its inevitable that he will one day.

Mickey plays centre back for his country, and has done well in the last two games there for us, but I'd like to see him there for a lot more to judge that properly.

i guess not many rececnt greats besides cantona just hang up their boots with united. hughes, ince, schmeichel, irwin...teddy as well...

I don't think O'Shea is a defensive mid in the long run, however I really like Ole at RW, his crossing in recent weeks has been as good as Becks in his heyday plus he has the ability to take players on and is a top class finisher. True he has to play like this at RW for a consistent period of time to be judged, but I like the look of him here. Silvestre at CH is looking good- good tackler, pace- I would prefer SAF kept him there.

I thought Silvestre had a shaky game against Burnley.
He's strong but still prone to slip ups. He has matured as a defender, but I just don't think we can risk giving him the dozen or so games at centre back to prove himself.
I don't think Silvestre is tactically switched on enough to play centrally.
I would be happy enough to see him continue at left back. His driving runs and crossing are arguably the best part of his game.
United have coped well with all the injuries and certain players have impressed out of position, but that doesn't change things.
We still have a shallow squad compared to our rivals.
We still need that 4th striker, alternatives at full-back and on the wing.

Then one day you wake up and he is Philip Neville. ;)

I still believe that we need to bring in new players, at least to strenghten our strength in depth.

Remember that we have already lost Irwin, Yorke and Cole while Blanc and may will join them next year.

I would bring in a valid left back who can play in the heart of the defense, a creative forward and a guy who can play on both flanks. While introducing Tearney and Djordic

Before deciding whether we have to splash our money on new players on not let us see the team which we will have next season.

Goalkeeper Barthez, Ricardo and Carroll. Very strong in my opinion, I would stress on more communication between GK and defense; while giving Carroll more first team opportunities. Steele should be loaned

RB. With J Oshea, W Brown and G Neville competing for one place, I cannot see the need to strengthen this position

CB I believe that the tandem Rio Ferdinand – Silvestre will work well, but the problem will come out if Rio Ferdinand gets injured. Ok O Shea and W Brown are good but do not possess the leadership needed to lead our backline (remember Gary Neville may be needed on the right). There are 3 options for this problem.
1 BRING AN EXPERIENCED DEFENDER (AYALA ON FREE)
2 TRY KEANO AS CENTRAL BACK
3 BRING IN AN EXPERIENCED LEFT BACK THAT CAN COVER THE CENTRAL ROLE (Kaladze, Chivu)

LB Well it depends whether we will play Silvestre on the left or not. While I have little faith on P Nev (sorry guys)
I see Oshea and Tierney as good cover. My idea would be to choose no 3 (read CB), bring a good left back (Kaladze would be ideal, he also cover well the defensive midfield role)

DM Keane and Butt are clearly world class, while Q Fortune had proved himself well. I would (for example) loan Stewart, on the long run I think that he would be a star.

LW Despite what ppl think I think that Ryan Giggs is world class. With Q Fortune and B Djordic (given a try he would prove world class) we are very strong in this department. I would loan Richardson, he need first team experience.

RW Beckham is WORLD CLASS ( READ THIS AMIR) but I believe that there is no real cover for him. P Scholes is not a winger while Chadwick is not good enough. I would go for a good possibly young winger ( Quaranta, Castroman or Joaquin) but cheap options would do us just fine ( ex Gillespie). Another option is Solskjear but we still need him up front

AM Move Scholes from his natural role is a crime. He was and is the best for that role. Altough I am not against Veron , you must admit that you cannot let a 28 m rated player on the bench. I would sell him and move Becks to the center (or Ronaldinho )

FW we need a good long-term partner for Ruudie that would fit perfectly as a link man in SAF master plan. World-class linkmen cost a lot (Totti, Del Piero etc); the cheapest of them are Ronaldinho (my favorite), Recoba
R Keane or Juninho ( risky) Folran would be a good cover

Stk With Ruud and OGS we have no problems on that. Webber should be given a chance while Nardiello could be loaned

Got to be joking. Not a natural CM. Try an Amir or a Sedorf maybe a Van de Vart. all very creative, Becks does what he does best out wide. i also rate H Kewel world class(not cause im an Aussie)I think he's a great link up man for Rude and has great pace.

Yes, I mentioned Kewell in the Transfer forum. He could be a great link-up man with Ruud. He would also provide great cover for Giggsy, with a long-term solution of him taking over on the left mid once Giggs does retire.

He certainly wouldn't be my first choice (that's Ronaldinho), but given that most of the players being thrown around haven't been tested in the Premiership, it's hard to know how they would adapt (Veron ). Kewell on the other hand has virtually grown up in the premiership.

Of course, there is the fact that it would be incredibly hard to get Leeds to sell us their two best players in less than a year. But with their financial difficulties...

You know the saying love thy neighbour

Kewell the Australian Sick note OHHH NOOO

Becks would be a magnificent cover for Scholes.

Ok he will play on the right but if we need him he is a very good option. After all he did England proud whenever he was utilised in that role ( Italy England MOM)

We definately need a fourth striker and quality cover for Giggs.Other than that everything is looking good IMO

Please don't forget, we still have Chadwick, Steward, Pugh and lots of talent young players. They are better than any big signing and more economical.

I think he meant it is inevitable he will not be with us one day, i.e. he won't play until he is 90+

If there's one player I would hate to see sold it's Ole. fecking star he is

I think he meant it was inevitable that he will move on as opposed to staying till the end of his career. At least, that's how I interpreted it.

Tell us Neil, what did you mean then? 5 quid on my version!

GKs are fine but improvement can be made.

FB - definetly problems here. More consistency and better concentration are needed.

CB - should be solid with Ferdinand, Brown and O'Shea in the long term.

MF - Plenty of quality available in Keane, Scholes, Beckham, Butt and Veron( ).

FW - Giggs, Forlan plus Richardson, Chadwick and Djordic. Could use one more player of qual;ity here

ST - OGS and RVN are Should add one more.

IMO, if SAF sticks to playing RVN as the striker and adds 3 of OGS, Scholes, Forlan and Giggs behind him we'll be just fine. I hope that he does this against Arsenal.

That is why I wanted a good right winger, pls read before judging my posts

Ole is a one off. The cases of Eric and Peter were different. The board wasnt prepared to give Denis another contract, and wouldnt give Teddy more than a year. As for Sparkey and Ince, they were no longer need in Fergie's opinion. This would never happen with Ole as he would always be content with life at United. In my opinion he is one of a select few who will never leave. I think he has been better at RW than Becks has for many months.
