Inspired (or not) by the FlashForward thread I was wondering if there is anything up and coming worth watching in American television.

These are the shows I know of and in italics are show that are coming to their second season I hadn't heard of or recommend strongly.

Accidentally On Purpose (CBS) - I saw the pilot and I expect this to be a popular show for women of all age. The first episode reminded me of Knocked Up as it follows a 37 y.o. woman who gets knocked up by a much younger guy after a fling and how see handles the situation. The guy is a loser and she has a career at the media.

The Beautiful Life (The CW) - has been canceled after only 2 episodes. Got horrible rating and not enough viewers. I saw both episodes and even though this wasn't my cup of tea it certainly wasn't as bad as many other shows out there.

Bored To Death (HBO) - With Jason Schwartzman, Ted Danson, and Zach Galifianakis (the fat guy with the beard from Hangover) starring this has the potential to be the next big comedy show. One episode in I'm really looking forward to the next episode. This is the only new HBO series I'm aware of starting this fall. There are however some exiting things coming up in 2010.

Brothers (Fox) - sitcom about estranged brothers who are pressured to get along by their parents. That's all I know for now and until I see one of these episodes I'll reserve judgement.

Castle (ABC) - I have not seen this show but it was picked up after a good first season where it averaged a 10.32 million viewers. Some kind of police comedy-drama.

Community (NBC) - I've seen the first two episodes and it lacks something. Always good to see Chevy Chase but the main character is just annoying and predictable. I expect this show to fade out and not be picked up for another season.

Cougar Town (ABC) - Courtney Cox's new show is about a divorced woman trying to date again. I'm not exited by the thought but apparently the pilot was a hit.

Eastwick (ABC) - Take the Desperate Housewifes formula and add something supernatural and you got this show. I saw the pilot and deary me I felt like an old lady after. Rebecca Romjin is beautiful as ever but a show about three woman in a small village that get some kind of superpowers is not such a thrilling idea.

Flash Forward (ABC) - First of all, I'm not a fan of Lost. I liked the first season but that's about it. This is supposed to be the next Lost. So was Fringe and that show was/is terrible. It's being discussed in another thread so I'll leave it at that.

The Forgotten (ABC) - Good old Christian Slater returns as a part of a group that tries to find the identities of John and Jane Doe's. Saw the Pilot and wasn't overly exited. Wouldn't be surprised to see ABC pull the plug on this one even before the season is over.

The Good Wife (CBS) - Produced by Ridley & Tony Scott and David Zucker this Legal Drama is one of CBS's most promising show. The pilot was watched by a massive 13.72 million viewers. Starring Julia Margulies this legal drama looks like a hit. Have not had the chance to see this show yet but hopefully before the weekend is over.

Mercy (NBC), 8:00 - Starring Michelle Trachtenberg this is one of several new medical dramas. Haven't seen it and tbf I don't expect I will.

Modern Family (ABC) - Now this one I'm exited about. Christopher Lloyd is one of two creators and it has Sofia Vergara in one of the main roles. That's just two reasons to watch it. It get good ratings and is a single camera mockumentary comedy. I'm even more exited after typing this.

NCIS: Los Angeles (CBS) - Los Angeles version of NCIS. If you like NCIS you will probably like this one, or not.

Parks and Recreation (NBC) - Has been picked up for a second season. I haven't seen this show but it's a comedy in the same style as The Office.

Southland (NBC) - Police drama and a damn good one actually. Only seven episodes in the first season but hopefully more now.

Other new shows that have not yet been on tv

Trauma (NBC) - Medical Drama
The Cleveland Show (Fox) - Family Guy's Cleveland with his own show
Shark Tank (ABC) - Reality show based on Japan's Dragons' Den
Hank (ABC) - Situation Comedy starring Kelsey Grammer
The Middle (ABC) - Sitcom starring Kris Cattan and Patricia Heaton (Everybody Loves Raymond wife)
Three Rivers (CBS) - Medical Drama
V (ABC) - This is the SciFi show to watch for. Getting great reviews (even though it starts in November)

Saw Modern Family. It's pretty good. The first episode is pretty well structured how everything ties in.

Also, Men of a Certain Age looks good. Has Ray Romano, Andre Braugher, and Scott Bakula. Looks pretty good comedy.

Also, is "V" based on the TV series from the 80s?

EDIT: It looks as though V is a reimagining of the original series from the 80s. I'll be watching this.

I've watched the first 2 episodes of Community and I agree with you. It's not a bad show, just feels incomplete.

I watched the new Jason Schwartzman show, Bored to Death, yesterday. That should be a good one. First episode was a bit rough, but I fully expect it to get better.

Well just watched this one. I really liked it, has a feel-good vibe about it. Some funny moments, other not so funny. Nothing groundbreaking but just generally a good show, one that you and your bird can watch together.

Slight update

The Cleveland Show (Fox)
More or less Family Guy with black family. It's fast paced and all of a sudden Cleveland jr. is really fat and talks slowly. If you like family guy chances are you'll like this show. I didn't like it, but I'm ready to give the second episode a chance.

Hank (ABC)
I though I had Hank on my computer. Turned out it was an episode of The City, apparently a spin-off from the Hills. I'm feeling sick.

Bored to Death
Just wanted to comment a little on this show after watching the second episode. This is slowly but steadily becoming my second favorite show currently on tv, after Curb Your Enthusiasm. I recommend this one for anyone looking for something new to watch.

I quite like Modern Family, even if it does blatantly rip off The Office with that "cool dad".

Dexter Incredibe return, John Lithgow opening scene will be burnt into my memory till my grave.

Agreed with Dexter, season looking really promising.

Mercy (NBC) One of two new medical dramas on NBC. Had no plans to watch this but I guess I did. This show was really interesting for the first 25 seconds and then it quickly became just another medical drama show, following the steps of Grey's Anatomy rather then E.R.
I thought the characters were unoriginal and the storyline full of clichés. Half way through I had lost all interest.

Eastwick I had even less interest in seeing the second episode of Eastwick then the first of Mercy. But for slight misunderstanding I did and I must admit that I see potential in this show but it's just not heading in that direction I'm afraid. Again this is a show for women and men should stay away (I promise I will).

Has anybody seen NBC's Kings. Just wondering if it's worth getting?

I watched a couple of episodes of Rubicon. I really didn't like it to be honest. Not very good acting, the characters aren't very interesting (but rather silly at times) and the story left a lot to be desired IMO.

Speaking of new shows, Boardwalk Empire is incredibly good so far. Especially the pilot, hope they keep it up.
