That's what i though as well. Becks has to be pictured with at least three other players, ADIDAS won't allow him to be pic'ed by himself.

The black was added for certain reasons, as was the white, but the black taking over is something the club should not agree to.

Are we in greater mourning now than we were 20, 30, 40, years ago?

I dont think you can lay the blame on Nike alone. The design would have been aproved at Board Level.
