New keeper!

I have heard about United's interest in him from a couple of places. He is a proven keeper and hell as an American, I would love to see him play in the Premireship and for United. He is very consistant as a keeper, very steady. I really hope that this is a possibility.

He will be the 2nd choice at the 2006 WC unless Friedel stumbles...then Howard will be 1st choice...only 24 with many years of top class goal keeping ahead...would be a great buy for United and probably no more than 1-1.5 million pounds...if he arrives, I fully expect Lopez out and perhaps Carroll too...I'd like to see Barthez remain for one more season, and let Carroll and Howard battle for #1 in the following season...if Barthez is sold, then bring in Rustu for 2 seasons and see if Howard can unseat him...I am very confident in Howard...in fact, I expect Friedel and Keller to sit out the FIFA CC and Howard to be the top keeper...with DJ Countess as #2...however, Friedel and/or Keller may suit up, but they need the rest...

True...but Howard is the next in line of solid American goalkeepers...DJ Countess might develop into a solid keeper too...he's only 21...would be wise to snatch Howard right now if the price is 1-1.5m...steal...

Steady over spectacular anyday. Wonder if he would get a work permit?

I think Adin Brown (NE Revolution) is better, but Howard is also excellent.

Steady over spectacular? Doesn't sound big enough for United. Still, he might be better at shouting at the defence in English than Barthez and Ricardo.

Work permits for foreigners require 75% appearances in internationals, don't they? Or Italian great grandparents. Does this guy fit the bill?

Steady and consistant with a side of spectacular. Just what United needs. ;)

I'd really like to see United sign some American players, of course...would really like to see Beasley come in, add some weight, and backup Giggs...I wouldn't mind Donovan either...he is versatile to play RW, AM, or Striker...bit light weight, he'd probably struggle with the physical play in the league...Tony Sanneh would be a solid backup at RB...he is good at going forward and plays a solid defensive game...two kids for future would be Bobby Convey and Freddy Adu...also, Kelly Gray is a young defender that might make the 2006 WC squad...

Just imagine if these young athletes that choose American football, baseball, and basketball, eventually choose soccer (real football). Even if 1 out of every 6 start playing soccer past the age of 14...right now, I would say it's probably 1 out 20...by 2010, the US could produce some top talent...

I really think that the American youngsters who have a fair chance to make it should forget the MLS and go to Europe and play. The chance to play in top flight and on the European stage does so much for experience and would help some of these kids develop into better players. Playing here in the US doesn't really cut it. The international matches that are played are against Mexico and South American teams that are heads and shoulders above players here.

He's got Tourette's syndrome! hahahahaha. That means he'll be able to scream at the defence Schmeichel style!!!! At all times, unexpectedly. Definately keep the defence on their toes!

If football was in their blood like basketball for example, you would have some amazing athletes playing. But will we see that day? Usually great sportsmen show promise at more than one sport, but they have to chose one at an early stage. Football/soccer does not yet have the money or the prestige of the traditional american sports in the US so its an uphill battle. Eventually they will strike it lucky a unearth a genuine world-class player that kids can idolize, that would help draw more young quality athletes.
