Semi Final 1 - Cal vs phelans shorts

Giravanz Cal
Manager: Cal
Assistant manager: Valentino

Tactics:

Attack, attack, attack, PS's teams weakness clearly lies in defence and I just can't see his defenders holding out against an attacking trio of Mata, R Augusto, Bale and spearheaded by Chicharito.

Whilst his attack is also very good, my centrebacks Subotic and Ranocchia have a much better chance of dealing with his attackers.

Finally a note that with PS playing Pato & Hazard that far up the pitch, Wilshere & co should be able to dominate the midfield and cut of supplies to his attackers.

Assistant Manager: puNANI

Tactics:
Our game will be based around midfield ball retention, high pressing and swift counter attacks. In Wilshere, Anderson and Augusto Cal! Has three offensive minded players which will disturb the balance of his team, and leave a big gap to exploit in between the midfield and defence where the likes of Hamsik, Pato, Hazard, and Higuain will most likely run amuck. The likes of Sahin and Fellaini will be extremely effective in stopping forward drives from the likes of Wilshere and Anderson.
In terms of his defence being able to handle phelans shorts' players? He has Uchida, a very attacking minded wing back, who was easily exploited against Manchester United and can be exploited by Pato and Hazard who will use their speed and skill to attack wide areas. Subotic and Rannochia are admittedly good players, but they come up against a top class striker who is a proven goal scorer in Higuain.
As for phelans shorts' defence against Cal?'s attack. Hernandez is admittedly a great player to have there, but I feel that he won’t get enough supply and his all around game isn’t good enough to lead the line against two strong centre backs in Shawcross and Mussachio.
Food for thought? If you don’t believe this team possesses enough attacking threat on the counter well then look at this for a stat. As Higuain has been injured this season I will use his last season statistics. Combine Higuain, Pato, Hamsik, Hazard, and Sahins total of goals in domestic competitions and Europe and you have a combination of 72 goals. Try stop us.

More details of the teams can be found: https://www.redcafe.net/f7/new-fantasy-draft-quarter-finals-329475/

The semis will last for 48 hours, peoples. Get voting!

I've missed all these threads, and it would be easier if someone told me rather than me looking for myself

Both of these defences are pretty poor, did any team have a decent defence, or is there a dearth of quality defenders out there

Vrajsko Lovren Sakho Coentrao

This defense got knocked out in round 1

how's that?

I've had around four brain farts in the last 5 minutes. In this line..

"Food for thought? If you don’t believe my team possesses enough attacking threat on the counter well then look at this for a stat"

Don't want to make it look like I'm taking credit for the main mans team! Thank you

Here is some food for thought for you voters. Higuain has been injured for a lot of the 2010/2011 season so we will take into account his season before as this years.

Five of our players, Sahin, Hamsik, Hazard, Pato, and Higuain have a combined 72 goals in domestic competitions (excluding community shields or the equivalent for their respective leagues) and European competitions.

6 of his players, Wilshere, Anderson, Mata, Bale, Augusto and Hernandez have a combined 54 goals this season in domestic competitions (excluding community shields or the equivalent for their respective leagues) and European competitions.

18 goals more without counting Fellaini who has also been injured this season, and can get forward and use his aerial threat.

I would like to take this opportunity to point out so far my side has shown a real mental toughness, pulling through each round by a solitary point whereas Cal?'s side hasn't faced a real challenge, and would be prone to taking thinking they will walkover my solid side as they have the lesser sides faced so far.

This. He also has Valentino as an assistant.

Just kidding mate, don't bite!

I always felt my defence was pretty solid.
De Silvestri - Evans - Mancienne - Santon.

And had I beaten Solius in round 1, Marcelo wouldve replaced De Silvestri, and Santon switched to the right. Tell me that wouldnt have been a good back four.

Also, I voted for P_S, just think his is the (slightly) better balanced of the two sides, not much in it though. Fellaini and Sahin strikes me as a more competent defensive midfield pairing (which is what you need in 4-2-3-1) than Wilshere and Anderson, though the latter is arguably more talented.

That's all very well, except for the fact that you've not played your players in positions where they normally play for their clubs.

Pato is certainly no winger for Milan, Sahin plays much further up the pitch for Dortmund (esp with Kagawa out).

A little background on the players:

Sippel - Another product of world class German goalkeeping school, played regularly for the U21s and recently earned a call up for national team; also played a big part in taking Kaiserlautern to a very respectable 7th place in the Bundesliga in their first season back in the top flight.

Uchida - Schalke & Japan regular, key to Japan's success in the Asian Cup 2011 and World Cup run last year. A regular for national team since he was 18 and already has 39 caps for the country ranked 14th in the world. Joined Schalke last summer and has been an important player for them reaching the CL semis and winning the German Cup.

Subotic - Superb pace, strength, incredible aerial ability and a great tackler. Subotic is undisputedly the best young defender in the world (think a younger Vidic). He was key to Dortmund's Bundesliga triumph and there are strong rumours that Chelsea, City and United are all fighting to get him.

Ranocchia - 23 years old Italian international center back, joined Inter Milan in January after the chaotic reign of Benitez and contributed a great deal to turn Inter Milan's season around. He was voted the best young defender and came second in best defender category in 2010/11 Serie A awards.

Rojo - 20y Argentine living a dream in the past few years. He won the Copa Libertadores with Estudiantes, got called up to the natioal team and landed a contract with Spartak Moscow. He may lack the attacking threat of someone like Rafael or Evra but more than compensates by his very solid defending.

Renato Augusto - Renato Augusto has quietly marshaled an underrated Leverkeusen squad which finished second in the Bundesliga (ahead of Bayern). His pace and touch enables him to create scoring opportunities for both himself and teammates where most other players would be dispossessed. At age 22, he is quite young and seemingly destined for a move to a bigger club, also recently called up by Brazil.

Wilshere - He is the PFA Young Player of the Year, and was also named in the PFA Team of the Year for the 2010–11 season. Wilshere is the brightest hope of English football since the breakthrough of Wayne Rooney in 2004. He can play in any role in central midfielder, passing, dribbling, vision, movement, combination play he has it all. Perfect all rounder.

Anderson - Guess there is no need to describe him...

Bale - PFA Player of the Year. He may have been a controversial choice for the award. But it cannot be denied that he has put in some performances that very few players in the world could better. He looks more and more of a complete winger whose only weakness is not having a proper striker in the Tottenham team to give him support in attack.

Mata - Star of the Valencia team and full Spain international with 11 caps. Started off as a striker at the Real Madrid academy and developed as winger for Valencia. Mata has managed to master the attributes of both positions, which lets him become a unique attacking weapon.

Chicharito - Little pea

My team is back in red this time as we're the home side. :D

Pato is certainly no winger for Milan, Sahin plays much further up the pitch for Dortmund (esp with Kagawa out).

Pato's played out on the right for countless games for Milan - I mean we even saw him play there against us - and Sahin's always played in a 2 in a 4231.

On the other hand. PS team has no defence at all. While Cal? centre backs make one of the best parings in this game. Also bale and Mata is much more willing to track back and help weak fullbacks than PS wide players. Which ultimately leads Cal? being much more balanced side.

by the way love this match. The team that i created and made great vs a team that i official work for now. I feel that i cant loose.

A team you so proudly take credit in making? Besides the team is excellent. The midfield and attack is unstoppable and the only player with no top flight experience Mathews.

Come on, how on earth is Cal? winning this?

Can I point out his assistant manager is Valentino again?

Now now, be nice, there is nothing wrong with Val as an assistant manager, afterall, how often do you see AMs get to speak to the media?
(It's not like I'm refusing to give interviews and sent Val to do all the talking.)

Conveniently ignoring your defenders? Whilst Subotic & Ranocchia are amongst the best in their positions in the Bundesliga & Serie A, your defenders play for midtable sides.

I didn't ignore the defenders. I quite clearly stated that Mathews is the only one missing top flight experience. Mussacchio plays for the uefa cup semi finalist and a top four Spanish team, canella has put in some fantastic displays this season and Shawcross is the best defender in a team that are hard to break down and made the FA cup final this year. You do have a decent center back pairing but your wing backs are easy to get at.

Europa semi finalists? Come on, be fair, Uchida plays for a CL semi finalist and you make it sound like he's terrible...

Cal? team is excellent. He has the group of players that complete each other. Phela Shorts had a mix of random stars in a attack that would never work in real life.

And by the way, kid, it is pity to see how hard you defend phelan shorts team. phelans shorts doenst deserve it, nor he would appreciate your effort. He is only using you, and would never rate you as proper number 2. All you are to him is guaranteed vote, thats the only reason he hired you. People may think i am the villain of this fantasy game, but they have no clue what kind of manager PS is.

I guess that's why you voted against Boosh team in the last round.

Thats a brilliant contest.

But Cal just edges it.I am not really sure.

Ohh shit I should have actually voted for Phelan's.
