* Players chosen will be judged on their careers so far, everything they have achieved, selection should not be based on how good you think they'd become.
* The poll will last for 24 hours

Match 6 - Cal vs arjwiz

Giravanz Cal

Fantasy-1.jpg

Tactics

The biggest threat from arjwiz's side comes from the pace of Bale down their right against the defensively not so solid Uchida (Schalke), however, I believe my centrebacks Subotic (Dortmund) and Ranocchia (Inter) are more than capable of handling Carroll & Macheda in the air as neither of those are particularly fast. Also, Granero (Real Madrid) will help out defensively against Bale and double up on him when required.

At the other end, the combination of Chicharito and Mata (Valencia), supported by the likes of Anderson & Renato Augusto (Leverkusen) should be able to score against any defense.

Finally, note that I'm the only one to actually give my goalkeeper a different coloured shirt to the outfield players. ;)

Sparta arjwiz

Tactics

The physical strength and speed of the defense will be more than capable enough to cope with the quickness of the opposition attack. Vanden Borre will tuck in and stay back in order to combat the threat of Mata.

Wide left, Gareth Bale will attempt to hug the touchline and whip in those floated crosses for Macheda and Carroll, who will use their strength in the air to nullify any threat that the defense might pose. I am looking at Uchida as their weak link, and Bale will do his best to target him. Bale and Dos Santos will provide the width and the pace, with Ljajic as the playmaker spraying the balls for the wide men.

Okay, a little background on the players:

Sippel - Kaiserlautern keeper who has recently been called up to the German internationa squad
Uchida - Schalke & Japan regular, decent defensively and going forward, also great for marketing
Subotic - Dortmund and Serbia regular, one of the reasons why Dortmund ran away with the Bundesliga
Ranocchia - Signed by Inter during the Winter and a regular for them as they saved their season after the disaster of Rafa
Rojo - Won the Copa Libertadores with Estudiantes, then joined Spartak Moscow, recently called up for Argentina, has 3 caps.
Granero - El Pirata, a Real Madrid squad player who can do a bit of everything, Mourinho called him the hardest worker at RM.
Anderson - Guess there is no need to describe him...
Renato Augusto - One of the stars taking Leverkusen above Bayern and into a CL place, recently called up by Brazil and has 2 caps.
Jeffren - Barca squad player who has an eye for goal, scored the 5th in that 5-0 rout.
Mata - Regularly in the squad (11 caps) for the World and European champions, the star of the 3rd place La Liga side.
Chicharito - Little pea

Cals team is stronger. Ljajic and Denilson in the centre is pretty weak really.

Can see Augusto and Ando just charging through it at will.

Gotta be Cal - although I reckon arjwiz would have beaten a lot of other teams, unlucky in the draw really.

I should vote against cal for taking a bunch of players that I wanted right before it was my turn and arjwiz never taking my picks but I'm gonna be fair and go with the better team imo

Got to admit that Denilson may not be the strongest in the center, but the chance that my team has is down the left, with Cissokho and Bale versus Uchida and Jeffren.

im undecided on this one actually, will see how the thread pans out before casting my vote.

I could say that same about you. ;)

You picking Hummels really screwed up my well laid plan...

Both sides are very talented and had good drafts. Like Walrus I'm going to have to make my decision a bit later after some more consideration.

Voting for Cal. The Mexican Kid just rips apart that below par defence.

The defense isn't below par by any means. N'Koulou has been starting for Monaco and Camerron for 3 years, Munoz is first choice for Palermo and picked in Argentina's squad a couple of years ago, Vanden Borre has over 100 matches at the top level for top teams is various countries, and Cissokho is basically one of the best U-23 left backs in the world, who teams like Milan and Arsenal have been following for years and who fared pretty well against our 2008 Ronaldo.

say the best y-23 full back? what about Fabio?

Well ok, you have beautiful defence, i just dont know how you expected people to know who the hell Munoz and N'kalou was. Anyway even if you convinced me that your defences deal with Chicharito in best possible way, still doesnt change much as i already voted.

I know who they are...but I also know who Cal's are. arjwiz i'd recommend that you stick in a player summary like Cal did.

Yeah it's not a well known defence, that's the main problem. Munoz has looked very good this season and Cissokho's excellent. Vanden Borre seemed a bit crap at Genoa and Portsmouth and wasn't in the Belgium team for either game I saw of them this season so I think he's a bit of a weak link. I've not really noticed N'Koulou when I've seen Monaco or Cameroon and I'd imagine the same can be said for many.

Surprised it would be called below par...I'm not even sure he has a better defence.

That said the Denilson-Ljajic partnership (and the lack of help they'd get from Dos Santos) just seems too easy to penetrate.

yes everyone should be doing that really - I noticed that a lot less people are voting in this one than the main Draft we did and I think it is because many people have never heard of some of the players.

i called it below par, because I dont know much about Munoz and that african dude, dont rate Borre, that only leaves Cisskho. Anyway if Munoz and african kid are really good, then sorry ,arjwiz, for my ignorance. But you cant expect me to go and download 5 games on each player to make an opinion about them and vote accordingly in 24 hours time span.

No but at the same time I don't think you can just assume they're not any good just because you haven't heard of them. I dunno, read up on them or something. I guarantee many players have been picked in this draft that their own managers have barely (if at all) seen, as evidenced by them being stuck in a position they clearly don't play in.

I've seen all my players play, from once or twice (mainly because Kaiserslautern & Spartak Moscow are hardly ever on TV) to every single game Chicharito & Anderson has played this season.

Thanks for suggestions from a few, here's a quick lowdown on my players. Better late than never, at least I'll hope to close the gap.

Joe Lewis- 6 foot 6 goalkeeper who made an impression by first being called up to the full England squad 3 years ago, and being considered for a big move to a premiership club this summer.

Anthony Vanden Borre - Noone will consider Vanden Borre a youngster, having made his first team debut for Anderlecht 8 years ago, in a career that spanned Anderlecht, Fiorentina, Genoa, Portsmouth (when they were good), and Racing Genk. He has been a regular for Belgium for the last couple of years.

Nicolas N'Koulou - Another regular for Cameroon and Monaco, attracting interest from the likes of Athletico Madrid, Lyon, and Arsenal. Hard, strong tackler.

Ezequiel Munoz - Touted as one of the upcoming young stars in Italy, Munoz is a first choice center back for Palermo, and has represented them in the Europa League. He was called up to the Argentina national team two years ago. Intelligent player that shows leadership characteristics that bely his age.

Aly Cissokho - One of the key players in this team, Cissokho is a beast displaying strength, speed, and tackling abilities. He was part of the Porto team that won the double, and marked Cristiano Ronaldo efficiently in the CL 2 years ago. Played for France despite having the likes of Evra, Clichy, and Abidal ahead of him. Targeted by AC Milan and Real Madrid in the summer.

Giovani dos Santos - Runner up for the FIFA Young Player of the Tournament (World Cup 2010) to Muller. Has scored 3 goals for Barcelona. Tottenham player out on loan at Racing Santander. Mexico's most important player in their World Cup campaign. Quick and skilful player who provides pace and width.

Adem Ljajic - Attacking midfielder who has blossomed this season for Fiorentina, scoring 3 goals, earning him a call up to the Serbian squad. Attacking player who is going to dominate the center of the pitch.

Denilson - Captained Brazil at every junior level since U15. On the bench for the full team. 96 games for Arsenal. Holding player to support the attacks. Has had a very promising first 3 years to his Arsenal career.

Gareth Bale - PFA Player of the Year. "He killed him (Maicon)" - Van der Vaart. Fulcrum of the team who will keep bombing up and down the left flank for 90 minutes and whipping in those early crosses.

Federico Macheda - Helped United in their title bid in 2009 with his prodigal performances. First-teamer at Sampdoria on loan this season. Was ahead of Michael Owen in the pecking order last year. Fantastic technique and poaching abilities.

Andy Carroll - Most expensive British footballer in history. Injuries have kept him from showing his best for Liverpool this year, but has assured himself of being a starter for England and a talisman for Liverpool, helping in their good run this year. Classic no.9 with height, strength and heading ability. "Probably in the top 3 headers of a ball I have ever seen in football" - Keegan. "The best striker in the league" - Holloway.

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic, but either way, there's no point to that post. Cissokho is leagues ahead of Fabio in terms of achievements and past record and current abilities.

Firstly, I said "one of the best U-23 left backs", not "the best y-23 full back".

Cissokho has had about 100 first team appearances and has played for the France National Team. Remember, France has the likes of Evra, Clichy, Abidal, Tremoulinas, etc as strong left backs.

Fabio has played 15 games, is no where near the Brazil team, and has only just completed the most successful month of his career, where he started a few games...at right back.

nobody likes a bragger man

I more put this down to people overestimating the knowledge of your typical caftard. Its no coincidence my team consisted of a lot of well known players and ones who have played in the PL (though I also believe that players being experienced in strong leagues is vital) because i didnt want to go for those that nobody has heard of.

Sure, a 18 year old wonderkid might be the best player in Lichtenstein but if its a shite league and he isnt really wellknown on a national level, it doesnt say a lot compared to a fairly average player who is holding down a first team/squad slot in the PL or La Liga. Furthermore I dont think anyone should be asked to go reading up on players etc before casting their vote, I would say its down to the manager to big up their team and get people to vote for it, not the voters to go doing hours of research.

a bit one-sided this match.
there needed actually be that much difference in quality of teams, but still in a vote like this one, it can become pretty one-sided

I dont think the scoreline does arjwiz justice, but sadly life in the draft can be cruel.

A healthy lead with a few hours to go.

Who should I pick?

arjwiz's team has players who have potential but not exactly set the wold on fire so far.

Cal's team is quite better in most of the departments.

Who should I pick?

pick Cissokho, Rojo is not that well known.

Or replace Jeffren with Bale (if you think you can work it tactically, which shouldn't be all that difficult)

Not really. You had a better team and got crushed. here Cal dominate his opponent and the voting mirrors it.

Maybe you shouln't have voted for me, then. ;)

Yes, yes, after hours of thinking about it and reading everyone's post, you changed your mind. We know.

Is this one over now?

If Cal makes room for Bale in his team he's looking good!
