* The aim of the game is to select a team of 11 players from all the current footballers playing who are born on or after June 25, 1987.
* Players chosen will be judged on their careers so far, everything they have achieved, selection should not be based on how good you think they'd become.
* The poll will last for 24 hours

Match 4 - Walrus vs Solius

Tactics

Solius' team is strong but lacks defensive discipline. Defour is by no means what I would describe as a holding midfielder (for me he is more like an attacking midfielder) and the team doesnt have balance. My team will exploit that with its pacy attack. Muniain and Welbeck drifting into the space created by his attacking FBs, and with the lack of a disciplined defensive midfielder, scoring goals should not be an issue.

My defence on the other hand, I think is solid and has some real quality and experience in Evans and Santon. With Song sitting in front of the back four in the defensive role, this will create a similar system to that which United employs, and as we have seen, is very hard to break down.
The presence of Song in midfield will also give Taarabt and to a lesser extent Gibson the freedom to push forward and exploit the space between Solius' midfield and back line (again, I dont think Defour would have the discipline to play that role) and link up with Aguero and the wingers should they cut inside.

Solius' has a very strong team, but tactically I think his lack of a proper defensive midfielder will be his undoing, when facing the likes of Aguero, whom the defence will surely need help against.

Sergio Asenjo is regarded as one of the best young keepers around. A key part of Atletico Madrid's side til De Gea overtook him and he went on loan to Malaga.

Daniel Opare broke into the Ghana national team aged 17 and is a regular for Standard Liege. He is a very composed defender (converted from a midfielder and also has an excellent precise whipped cross in his locker when going forward.

Holger Badstuber is a regular centre-back for Bayern Munich having broken into the team in 2009. He can also play at left-back. A bonus with the very attacking Marcelo on the left side as he can cover if needed. He also plays for the German national team.

Breno is another Bayern Munich centre-back. Broke into the team in 2008 and has spent time on loan at Nuremberg as well as he learned his trade.

Marcelo is widely regarded as the best left-back in the world. His defensive abilities are underrated because his attacking ones are so good. A major threat going forward, can also play left-wing.

Steven Defour is the captain of Standard Liege, and is a central midfielder more in the Carrick mold than anyone else. He is a leader, and is known for his accurate passing and reading of the game. Fergie has kept an eye on him in the last few years.

Sotiris Ninis is a another player linked with United. The Greek attacking midfielder has all the tools in his locker and has made a heap of appearances for Panathinaikos at the age of 21. He has a brilliant change of pace and has become known for his superb vision and his rocket of a shot. Poses a different type of threat to many other players and can also play on the left.

Alan Dzagoev is an attacking midfielder who plays for CSKA Moscow and is a regular in the Russian national team. A very clever player with an eye for a killer pass. Compliments the other two midfielders perfectly as he is more relaxed and mentally astute. You may remember him scoring against United from a near impossible angle in the Champions League.

Douglas Costa is another player with a superb turn of pace. He can play on the right, the left or as an attacking midfielder. He can cut in from any side and provide a threat, and is very skilful. You may have seen some of his performances for Shaktar in this seasons Champions League.

Andrew Ayew plays for Marsielle so you've seen him this season. Broke into the team 4 years ago and is still only 21. Electric pace and known for his direct wing play and assists for his team. Can also play as a striker if needed.

Karim Benzema is hardly going to be unheard of on here. The Real Madrid star is one of the worlds top strikers.

Tactics:

I won't bore you with a wall of text. Marcelo will gang up with Ayew on the left side when possible. Ayew cuts inside a lot and Marcelo goes outside and vice versa, similar to how Evra links up with his winger, causes lots of problems. Costa, Ninis, and Dzagoev are all very versatile and can play all across the midfield. Ayew can also support the lone striker as he is adept in that position. The attack can interchange positions at will, similar to how United go forward. One out and out winger, with the one on the other side drifting into all sorts of space. Difficult to pick them all up with their movement.

Disappointing anyhow, thought this would be quite a close one - plenty of time left though. I do feel that my team has more balance to it than Solius, even if player-by-player you would say he has more talent.

But i dont think i done any more damage here. Walrus was voting against our team anyway. I am not starting any new feuds and making no new enemies. and on this you should support me. We are team-mates. His behaviour towards me was not acceptable.

Against any other team so far I'd say Walrus had the advantage. Unfortunately he's come up against a strong Solius team.
 
Voted for Solius. Was pretty close though, but I thought his defence looked the stronger, which was what turned it for me.

But why oh why your team has not a single exceptional player? maybe as team they are good. But the individuals are just mediocre at best. While Solius had got benzema, Marcelo, Costa, Defour... you ended up with Gibson, Song and Evans. :confused:
 
At first glance Team Solius seemed the better choice but I think Walrus has a good balance to his team so I voted for him
 
I liked that Solius posted his players write up in the thread its a good idea and if it isn't too much trouble for dr d they should probably be posted for both sides in the OP in future matches

A team many consider to be ordinary won the league this year and are in a Champions League final....Balance > Players. So that as an argument is stupid and childish. However, Solius does have the stronger team for me based on experience, especially the backline and goalie. The midfield 3 for Walrus is actually quite solid and on their day could actually do damage. Then it gets to the front 3 and it's here Solius takes it for me, just seems more experienced rather than talented.
 
I just feel sorry for Phelans_Shorts more than anything :)

The problem is there is 2500 character limit for each post, hence not being able to post both teams player summary and tactics and such.

If anything I felt that midfield was my weak point.
 
seriously guys. this it. its fun but i cant continue it. if i dont stop, i will get sacked before the next match. my last post in the thread.

By the way i vote for Walrus.
 
I think people are overplaying the need for a genuine defensive midfielder. Barcelona and United have both shown recently that you don't really need a specialised defensive midfielder in order to make your team work. I think it's more important to make sure all your team is hardworking and technically good, something which our team excels at in my opinion. Plus our back 5 is also very strong which helps make up for a lack of a destroyer in the middle of the park.

well there you go Walrus. You again proved me right.

Do you see Solius complaining or anyone other about the draw? No! cause other guys realize that to win this game they got to beat everyone, they got to have the best team. and most importantly they believe in them self that they did picke the best team

But you, you just complaining, blaming everyone for your shortcomings. it is because deep down you know , you know that your team is weak , that your are horrific fantasy manager/ And that there is no good draw for your team.
