Jon Champion and Mark Lawrenson have been confirmed to be the ones providing the English commentary for the new version of Pro...

Jon is fine from his champions league commentary on ITV. But I'm not a fan of Lawrenson. Will have to wait and see before I judge but looking at his FA Cup commentary on the BBC, Lawrenson better not sound like a dead donkey on Pro.

Champion usually sounds alright when someone's scoring. He like's his statistics though, like Motson.

Lawrenson, well everyone knows about him unfortunately.

Hopefully in time Alan Green will replace Champion, then you'd have a special game mode, 'Inspire Lawro and that Fat cnut into Bloody Suicide', where you just have to score as many goals as you can past the Dippers. Depending on the number and quality of the goals their suicides will be be more elaborate and hilarious. Then afterwards you could choose to play with their heads instead of footballs and the commentary is just replaced with that laughing song from the Liverpool season review. That'd be fun, take note Konami

Lawrenson isn't too bad -- I like his ridiculously over-the-top sarcasm.

Jon Champion is a let down.

Honestly, the two commentators I'd love to see working together in a game or in real life are Clive Tyldesley and Andy Gray. Shame one works for ITV and the other for Sky Sports.

Edit: I've just read that actually the two of them do commentate together in Fifa 06 and Fifa 07. The game is shit, but I bet the commentary is excellent.
 
I guess it doesn't matter who comment. It will be come shit after two games because of the repetitiveness. Sound is never a strong point for PES. I usually turn off the commentators when I play.
 
It's the fact the scripts come directly from Winning Eleven (japanese game) and most of the lines are just direct translations.

I'm sure there must be a good way of making commentary work for PES because FIFA's is usually top notch.

Just a pity everything else about that game is shite.

PES is a great game for football fans but I have a few beef with it

- the boring sound: why can't they fecking improve it ? Like what you said, it's not impossible, FIFA got it right. But again you could ask why couldnt EA got the game play right while Konami can.

- Number of teams, it would take probably max 1MB to store a new team, why the hell can't they include more nationals and clubs in the games ? I'm sure a lot of small clubs and nation doesn't mind being included in the games *** that means they will get some popularity as well.
 
Licences.

EA get the big one's because they operate under the FIFA umbrella so its easier for them to obtain new leagues and nations.

Whereas PES uses FIFpro which has all but a few minor nations no covered now and no club licenses which means that Konami pay it out of their pocket.

Rumour has it that Manchester United are licensed this year as well.

Good times.

Haha, he did the commentary for ISS2, which was the precursor to the Pro-Evo series.

Embarrassing, as you'd imagine. At least there'll be something to laugh at, I suppose.

I had a game on the Dreamcast a few years ago called UEFA Striker. It's commentary line up of Jonathan Pearce and Ron Atkinson has yet to be beaten, in my eyes!

That post is from my brothers thread but its in the newbies so he told me to post it in here for him. He finds Lawrenson funny but I just think he's daft and drunk. (The poorus one was funny though when England were playing Greece)
 
Nah, Lawrenson is funny.

His jokes are actually mildy good and his sarcasm is spot on. Just a shame he doesn't bring much to the table in terms of actual football relevance.

I think some are just so bad, they're laughable. "That's just poorus!" I mean comon, such a bad attempt at a joke it's funny :lol:
