Greatness ...... well about 10 games from it actua
(mods: i know there is a topic called gary neville at the moment but mine is differnt honest)

.... suprising i'm not going to knock the nev bro's at all (shit that is suprising ..... i've even shocked myself)

i thought that phil had yet another great game tonight as has done over the last few games he has really rellished the hightend responsiblity and duties. he is proving his knockers (myself included) wrong at the moment an i hope he can continue to do so.
i get the feeling that he may just be reaching his true potential much like nickey butt did a couple of years ago where he really stepped up another level or so to where he is now a very compatent midfild anchor.

does anyone agree or just feel his preformaces are flash in the pan and when keane in particular comes back it will be back to frustrating preformances here and there.

also for his bro gary i like to congratulate him on his 69er ......... his record breaking CL apperances i mean ;) and of course a welcome back from injury.

gary could take a little blame for the goal alhough it was very well worked and taken plus gary has yet to play a full 90mins and after such a long lay off he is bound not to be at his sharpest.

Gary still short of match fitness and sharpness, which is understandable. That showed tonight, he had some good moments but you can tell he's still recovering. The more minutes he plays the better. Playing reserve games is all very well but he's only going to get back his match fitness by playing for the first team
As far as Phil is concerned, he's playing some of the best football of his career. And in a totally new position. He's really taken to he new midfield role. Over the past 4 games he has been our most consistant performer. Well done Phil.

theres no way we can really blame Gaz for the goal, it would have cut any fullback to peices.
besides first game back and all that.

Of course Keane will be back in the side prob at Phils expense when he comes back...hes too good to leave out. It shouldnt be too much of a shock how well Phil has played there tho, he played CM for the youth team too and used to do quite well.

But what i hope is that Phil Neville has proved to everyone now why it is Fergie keeps him around as a squad player. Every team needs a Neville or 2.

When everyone is available the back four are from G Neville, Brown, Blanc, Ferdinand, O'Shea and Silvestre. Midfield four/five from Beckham, Giggs, Keane, Butt, Veron and Scholes. When players are missing we rely on Phil Neville, Fortune, Chadwick, May(?) and youngsters like Pugh, Stewart, Roche, Tate etc. There is a significant gap between the regulars and the back ups.

If we sign a player for the first team, one of the regulars will miss out - not a bad thing if it improves the team. However, the dropped player is likely to put in a transfer request and then we are still no better in terms of numbers. I think we have to accept that back up players are, by definition, weaker than first teamers.

We have lost many promising youngsters in recent years, Higginbotham, Greening, Wilson, Mulryne, Macken, etc. Phil is as good as most of them. He has chosen to stay with us rather than move on. I know he has spoken out about wanting a greater role but I he obviously accepts the situation because he is still here.

I would love him to improve his game the way Nicky managed last season. A genuine challenger for Mickey might convince Fergie that we really need a fourth striker. If Phil's recent form is just a flash in the pan it's good reward for an honest professional and valuable squad member.

phil has really matured of late, it would be great to see his form continue. he worked really hard last night, as he has done the past few games.

But that's a long time ago. His recent performances have really impressed me, he deserves all the praise he is attracting
