Neville Southall has urged Everton manager Roberto Martinez not to grant Joey Barton his dream move to Goodison Park.
Barton’s agent Willie McKay told talkSPORT on Wednesday that his client was keen to join the club he supported as a boy and would be prepared to take a significant wage cut to force through a move from QPR.
But Goodison Park legend Southall believes Martinez would be wise to steer clear of the controversial midfielder.
"I think they have already got a kitman," said Southall, when asked on Hawksbee & Jacobs whether he thought the 30-year-old would be a good signing.
"What is he going to add to Everton? He might be a half decent player at times but, if he was that good, Harry Redknapp would be begging him to stay at QPR.
“I don’t see how he will fit into Everton’s style of play. He ain't the best passer in the world. Yes, he is fit and runs up and down all day but Forrest Gump did that as well, didn’t he?
"I would rather he [Martinez] got in a young lad, who is probably on less money and a better prospect in the long run so they have got until January to bed him in and see what he is like. A 30-year-old at Everton? I was hoping they were past that, unless he was a current international.

Southall has often struck me as a rather sneering sort of character in the few interviews i've heard. On purely footballing grounds he's probably being a bit harsh, he had an okay season in Ligue 1 didn't he? Like Joe Cole i think he might do better to remain there instead of returning to the city of Liverpool.
