Gday everyone, coming to England in November, need urgent help, fly into London from Wollongong Australia at 6.35am Saturday morning, I see Manchester United play that day in Manchester, I imagine start would be 3pm kickoff vs Southampton, can I make it to Manchester by 3pm?? I heard it is 2 hour trip from London, we do not have transport, would we make it, am able to get a ticket over here, not cheap but once in a lifetime, doesnt matter, how would best way to get there train?? I know u are thinking jetlag but we head off to Europe 3 days later so this might be my only chance, want 2 be there by say 12 to savour game day, not rock up at 3pm, can any MAn United fan help me thanks Darren

You'll have plenty of time to get to Manchester. There are multiple ways to do it, depending on whether you arrive at Heathrow or Gatwick. You’ll need to get to London Euston (train station), then get a train to Manchester Piccadilly. Metrolink or bus to the ground is easy from there.

You'll have to be careful if you're taking the train. They're doing works on the tracks on the London/Manchester route during weekends and the trains are taking longer than usual. You can check out www.thetrainline.com for information about timetables and price.

If you don't want to drive, you might want to consider flying. You can check out British Midlands site at www.flybmi.com

www.gobycoach.com if you don't mind being cramped up. There's a bus from the airport to the bus-station in London, they'll go the Manchester from there.

I think you'd be better flying direct from heathrow. Not cheap, but better chance of getting to Manchester on time, with less stress. Only 1 hour from Heathrow, and presuambly loads of flights

Trains are a no-no. Sections of the track where I live are closed at the weekends until Xmas. Adds at least 1.5 hours to what would already be an awful journey

flying is cheaper than I thought. british Airways flight to Manchester from Gatwick 2/11 at 8:45 am £16. 10:55 flight is £26

bargain !

Thanks heaps everyone who replied, maybe plane sounds the way to go, I appreciate your help and this plane website I will look at , once again thank you Darren

zee plane my friend zee plane - i wouldnt trust a British train to take me 500 metres down the road, never mind London - Manc (2.5 hours supposedly).

Thanks Sharkey, starting to look at the flights, it sounds like 1 hour flight, this is getting better and better, hard to imagine going to Trafford, thanks for advice, I will start researching for airlines

You can also take a bus from London to Manchester, it's about 3 and half hours and the price is about £20.

Thanks Itayab, its weird, here in Australia, the planes are heaps dearer and the trains are cheap, yet it seems flights are cheap over there, hard to get your head around, thanks Lubylu for your research, it is so hard when you are trying to book from another country and appreciate your help

Mate thought it was too good to be true, it surely put the buses out of business, is it 3 hours to Manchester roughly and 1 hour by plane, could i get to Old Trafford once i get off the plane, do you think it could be a nightmare

Just jump in a taxi about 20 minutes away from the airport

That must be some fecking bus. I live 40 miles north of London and I can barely get to Manchester in 3 hours at 90mph and that's knowing which roads to avoid and which to take

The £26 is on the www.british-airways.co.uk site.

Thanks again guys, over here in Aussie we keep getting told how close all of Europe is etc etc, here we mostly use the planes because of distance Sydney to Brisbane is 1000km 12 hours drive or 1 hour flight, thats why flights are dear, thanks once again for all those cheap flight sites, gee getting British Airways sounds good, just waiting on my travel agent to confirm location of arrival the game is Man United vs Southampton on 02.11.2002 at home, i dont know the time but I imagine its 3pm?? we arrive in England awaiting location at 6.25am 2/11/2002

I guess you'll need to get to OT early to find some ticket touts ?

Start saving your pennies

;)
