68 teams this year with the First Four starting tomorrow.

I've set up an ESPN bracket pool for us since most likely you guys would already have other ones set up there so you can just add your bracket to this pool.

ESPN - Tournament Challenge - Group

Winner gets a congratulatory PM from me.

Brackets are frozen after games start on Thursday. The deadline for adding your bracket to the group or withdrawing it from the group is the start of the second round.

Alright, experts. Who's taking it? (Sir Matt and askabob need not answer.)

osu.

on another note,

anyone in the US watch the documentary on the michigan fab five on sunday? Great documentary, i liked what they all said about Duke..esp jalen rose.

F'n joke Florida got a 2 seed and Texas a 4 seed. Switch them. And again the minnows get hosed. Utah State a 12 seed? Oakland a 13? Ridiculous.

Colorado got hosed too.

 I'm not doing a bracket. Kyrie did say there's a good chance of him coming back to play in the tournament. If he can get in minutes Friday to get up to speed, we could be a lot better than people think. Otherwise, Kyle Singler needs to start hitting outside shots and we need the production we got from everyone this week at the ACC Tournament. They all stepped up and could prove hard to beat if they keep it up.

OSU got a difficult bracket. We have several difficult possible matchups with Tennessee(depending on which Tenn it is), Texas, UConn, and SDSU. I think we can do it though. The Final Four...who knows.

"Duke's Kyrie Irving practiced with the team Tuesday and could play in Friday's NCAA Tournament opener, Coach K said."

Kyle Singler said "when he plays," paused, smiled, "if he plays."

I'm a ABD - Anybody But Duke sort of guy. So naturally the feckers will win get to the Final Four and possibly win it all :(

No one has mentioned how awesome Gus Johnson is yet. I think it needs to be said.

Some really stupid shot selections in today's games. Florida lost their game with it and now Arizona going for the win when needing only a deuce to tie. Terrible decision making.

More than likely but I wouldnt put it past one of the Mid Majors especially Butler who were there last year and came extremely close to beating top ranked Duke, so they wont be intimidated if they get to the Championship game. This tournament has been crazy, I can't remember a single one like it, first time ever without a No 1 or No 2 in the Final Four, crazy shit man.

I like what Mike & Mike talked about today. Saying that the NCAA bball tournament is great excitement but rarely does the best team actually win. And how is that great at determining a champion?

I don't understand how UConn can finish 9th in it's conference and get a 3 seed, which basically tells everyone they're in the top 12 schools in the nation. Get the feck out. They finished 9th in their conference. So if they win the championship, they're "the best team?" That seeding often draws favorable matchups for the bigger (and often deeper) schools. Now, that doesn't always translate to a win, but seeding/draw can set up very favorable matchups for a higher seed. Far too much emphasis is placed on the conference tournaments. Of course, without an automatic bid for a conferencde tournament winner the higher ranked schools would just mail in the first round and avoid injuries. It's still bullshit to give automatic bids to conference tournament winners though. We see it often with these mid-majors having fantastic 25+ win seasons, but lose in the conference tournament and get left out because a shit 12-18 school "got hot."

I get their point. However, I'd still rather have a NCAA D-1 football playoffs I find a playoff far more worthy than some polls and computers telling me who should play for a mythical title. But still playoffs are simply a lottery. Get hot and win out. Sometimes the best team wins out. It's often about the matchups - drawing the right opponent. Injuries, foul trouble, etc. plays a big part in one-off single elimination games.

Now, if they have say a best of three/five series, I think the better (and probably deeper) team would win most series. Of course that's not possible in college, except in baseball. Yet they scrap the three game series when it comes to the final championship round going with a double elimination tournament. However, they have since 2003 gone back to a best of three instead of a one-off final but the two teams are still decided via a double elimination bracket. And only 8 teams make it to the CWS, and many times the best teams do not survive their region or super-region brackets.

And this playin round crap is ridiculous. Especially now with playin 11 seeds, etc. Get the feck out! It's bogus. So a school can't make it to begin with but we'll let them playin and give them an 11 seed. Huh?

It will be 96 schools before we know it. Then we'll have .500 schools getting bids - without winning that shit conference tournament! Which means someday we'll have a 14-16 school "get hot" and win the title. Oh joy!

Anti-climatic final. Boring.

Kyrie Irving declared. I think he bombs in the NBA. He can't stay healthy in his only college year. The NBA isn't easier to remain fit. I don't think he's ready but it's not about that for these guys - it's about the contract and a dream. Hopefully, the next CBA enforces a 2-3 year college attendance. If the kids want to be paid then go to Europe.

I hope the CBA doesn't enforce shit. An 18 year old should have the right to offer is labour to whomever he sees fit if a manager/owner wants to hire him.

1 and done is a joke, go back to how it was in the 90's. If you are 18, you can join the L.

Actually, i'd be willing to compromise and do what the MLB does. You can either join out of HS, but if you go to college you have to stay 3 years. Give players two options.

As much as i dislike duke, and one of the first to criticize their players at the next level, irving will be a decent nba baller. He's no CP3 like Sir Matt on here would want you to believe, but he's not juan dixon. He'll be a solid nba starting pg in his career at the very least IMO.

If high school kids are going to be allowed to go pro, then by all means create a minor league system or allow NBA clubs to field a full fledged U21 league - ten players per club all on a fixed salary system.

Something like 40k for 1st year player, 60k for 2nd year, 80k for 3rd year and 100k for 4th year. If not signed to first team by 4th year, player becomes a free agent.

BTW, should the NFL allow high school kids to go pro?

MLB and NHL do but nearly every one of those teenagers goes to the minor leagues, only a select few go straight to the NHL. And most of hockey kids have been playing in junior or select leagues which is a far higher quality system than high school.

Personally, I would love to see the US sports league go the academy route ala Europe. Why can't the Dallas Mavericks find the best fifteen 15-18 year olds in their local area and develop them?

This makes no sense. You advocate teams to sign youngsters like europe but don't want 18 year olds get drafted? :wenger:

The nba does have a minor league...the D-League. Isn't the best adage 'if you are good enough you are old enough". As for wage caps, that is something that should be decided by actual stakeholders

Sure, the NFL should also allow anyone 18 or older eligble for the draft. Let TEAMS and those in charge decide. For the NFL, they wouldnt take 18 year olds due to physical bodies not being developed, but give that power to the decision makers. What gives anyone the right to legislate who and when someone should be allowed to legally work in a legal enterprise?

The only reason even the concept of a DRAFT exists is because it is codified in a cba with a union. Otherwise even something like a draft, which is a redistribution of talent mechanism would be illegal under US anti-trust laws.

Let players be in charge of their destiny and let mangement of clubs have the responsibility of shaping their talent the way they see fit.

The only people (besides veterans on the downhill of their careers) who want legitimate labor being barred from the league is the NCAA and the hypocrites who run it because they are seeing college basketball devolve into a farce with 1-done players and quality drop in general. Please don't tell me you are in the college's corner in this.

Read the post again. Maybe it will make better sense if you actually READ IT. And perhaps this time you'll see that I mention if they are going to allow high school kids to go pro, then create a U21 league or academy system. It's not rocket science.
