It can be fixed only if it is out of warranty. If it is in warranty you should send it. It will be free and and yesterday I think MS announced that the 360s will have a 3 year warranty for the 3RLOD and free sending of their consoles!

Because Microsoft is not a manufacturer of electronic goods. Never has been, and they don't have a clue!
That's not the reason but I'm bored to expand on this and there is a way to fix it by opening the box but since MS extended the warranty to 3 years for all xbox 360 he should send it to MS and be sure that it will work.:)

Another thing - why did Microsoft, who produce all of their shit for Intel processors, when it came to build some hardware not choose to use Intel processors? They used IBM didn't they? Now, Apple were using IBM/Motorola and then decide to switch to Intel......

Errrrrrmmmm!

And before some smart alec that knows feck all about what he is talking about says something along the lines that the Intel processors are obviously far better at doing "serious" work than the IBMones . why the hell are most of the Super Computers on the planet powered by IBM processors?

You seem to know a lot where as I'm just 17 but still that is not the reason. The CPU switching doesn't seem to be a reason for anything. It was a designer's fault which causes overheating and thus bendind of the motherboard and the breaking of the solder points. You could argue that it's because of inexperiance but I tell you it's because of profit motives to make a cheap yet powerful product which would give them a big profit margin. Search on the x-clamp issue. There are some x-clamps holding the heatsinks which are made of cheap metal which cause a lot of problems. They bend, wrap the motherboard, the heatsinks become loose and the heat cannot be dissipated. Also the solder points breaking and the parts cannot communicate. That's the long story short of course. From an engineerer you can learn more things like that by removing lead from components because of the EU regulations the components are not so strong under the heat produced. Of course don't take it as a fact because you can never be sure if someone on the internet is talking bullsh!t. Anw you get the point. Here is a guide for MarliMan if he wants to fix things himself... http://copronymous.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/fix-for-the-3rlod.pdf

Xbox 360 is still a better gaming console then any others.

Microsoft just admitted yesterday that their is a manufacturing glitch that is fecking the systems up ... They're set to lose a few million do to it. They don't even know how to fix it completely yet. Was on CNN yesterday.

Few millions? A billion dollars is more like it...
