Not really, PS3's do not break.

Anyone who actually thought it had is an idiot. In fact I'm goin gto give it some Weaste treatment and leave it on until my thread gets 1,000 posts.

My PS3 broke a couple of weeks ago actually, getting a refurbished one on the 18th

It's definatly not a XBox

It starts off fine, then 10 minutes later makes a noise, nothing too bad - then after about 20 minutes the noise gets louder, sounds like the fan. Still works fine, mind.

Thats how my 360 used to sound, I would start it up and the house would shake. I kid you not.

Oh good, tbh I wasn't that worried, still works as good as ever

Is there anything I can do though to help reduce the heat though?

Install air conditioning? :D

Fans, even in computers do get louder as time goes on as they accumulate dust (fans are especially good at doing this). If you feel brave, open it up and use some compressed air to get rid of any shit that may have accumulated in there.

I think I'd rather just leave it, I don't trust myself enough to open it up.

Cheers for the help, as always.

I bought a USB port cooling fan that I can say works very well, even if Weaste says that it's completely unnecessary. My PS3 is in a fairly tight spot so I wanted to give it some extra cooling ability. I found it was excessively hot after even a short period of use. The fan cost me $15 CDN (6 or 7 pounds likely) and since I have the 80gb version I have the spare ports.

The only problems were its on-light, which was very bright, and using the fan with the PS3 in vertical position, as the USB connection is hinged to the body of the fan. Duct tape solved both issues, though.

It's much like this one, if not exactly the same:

There is a thread where I stress tested mine for over a week - always on, air conditioning turned off - 30 degrees heat, constantly playing GT5:P. Yes, the fan went mental sometimes. The machine itself is in perfectly good working order. The fan is supposed to go like that when it gets hot, it's doing its job well. Come October you will not hear it at all.

Well, it shouldn't be, but if it is and it works, then....

I doubt these things because I'm not sure if they do more harm than good. My PS3 sits about 5 foot in the air on top of my seperates, and has a good 12 inches at the back and above and 6 either side.

no worries. Obviously it was my $500 baby when I first got it and I didn't want anything bad to happen to it. Probably an over precaution but it seems to do well. Mine's right beside the TV and next to the stereo's subwoofer. There's a fair bit of space owing to the LCDs narrow depth but the TV throws a lot of heat out and it blows right onto the PS3, virtually no room next to the subwoofer and only maybe four inches at the back. When I got it, I didn't know if it would fit anywhere.

You lie, you never had a 360, otherwise you wouldnt be slamming it at every given opportunity :p.

He he.

I did actually have a 360 for a year, my brother got it me for Xmas. Then when I got GeoW, me and my brother had an 8 hour long session on it (Completed it on Co-op:D) then 3 days later it broke:mad:

I sent it off in January, got it back early February and then traded it in for a PS3 early April.

So you played a total of 8 hours on it with one game? Some experience you must of had

MGS4 experience - whats that like? watching 2 action movies in a row....have already had many nights like that already cheers.

Look, you talk software, and you bang on out of your arse about it, software is software, you can write software for a mobile phone. Software is use of hardware, and the fact of the matter, and you need to understand this, is that in terms of hardware the PS3 is superior to the XB360 on almost every front. If you cannot accept that, then that is your problem, believe what you want and carry on to be the same idiot that thinks that a 40GB PS3 does not come with a chrome trim.

If you want an argument of RSX vs Xenos, go for your life, but the fact of the matter is that even on the raw graphical level, all of the best looking console games this generation are on the PS3.
