Seems to get hotter than Paul Scholes in swimming trunks whenever I have a game running for more than 5 minutes.

Forgotten if this is normal or not but I feel the side of it and it's always quite hot.

Weaste?

Come to think of it where is Weaste lately.

In general they get pretty hot, try not to put it on the carpet as that usually makes consoles/laptops heat up more for some reason.

I notice that if I have the laptop in bed watching a dvd (not porn before I get a smart comment) the sheets nearly go on fire. The first time I used the PS3 it was on the carpet and it was hot as hell. No problem since I put it on a shelf.

Is your fan constantly on the full setting or something? If it is then I don't think that's normal or at least I've never noticed it like that. Then again mine is on a shelf in the corner of a room downstairs, close to a window.

Try not to block the air vents, especially with carpets/bed sheets. Do you have the 40gb version? You can make the fans go sick at bootup for 30 seconds or so which will result in a fair bit of dust coming out of the PS3. A nice dust clear-out always helps.

Is it possible to get a temperature reading from the PS3? They should do that, nice to know.

I have the 60Gb I think. First one to be released, it's just on my desk

It just sits there on my desk.

60GB models seem to have the most troubles. I had some with my console with regards to it freezing and making loud noises the other month but thankfully that has stopped. My brothers also had to be replaced last week as his kept freezing whilst he was playing games.

Maybe you should lay it horizontally, it's gotta get tired from time to time surely.

It also refuses to play LittleBigPlanet until after about 30 loads and I'm not exaggerating.

I run out of sperm eventually, get it, loads *snigger*

The differential would be a failing fan.

Would Sony send me a new ps3 for free?

It sounds like it's going to fecking take off whenever I do something as small as push X

That's standing up not sitting down.

Maybe there is just a high humidity around that area as you seem to have a lot of equipment there with it. Try clearing those papers away from it and whatever else you have there there. Let it breathe.

Buy one of those extra cooling units for it if needs be.

At least nobody can come into this thread and say buy an xbox instead. He he.

Sounds like something is fecked now.

Ring Weaste/Sony.

I have no idea.

Since it should be winter there the average temp there should not be that high. Should provide a good cooling air temp for your PS3. Either your fans not working or some parts are receiving too much voltage(malfunctioning, biggest culprit would be the gfx)

I have no idea. Yours would be a rare issue. Or perhaps a tissue issue.

Spunk's a heat insulator ;) Your DIY plan to get your PS3 white isnt working.

You'll have the same problem possibly, but more fun while it lasts...

You shouldn't really worry about it getting hot on the outside, it means that the fans are doing their job. You would rather have all of that heat on the inside? Mine makes the wall behind it go warm after an extended period of use. People can easily forget that your model of PS3 has a 90nm CPU running at 3.2Ghz (go look at a Prescott Pentium 4's cooling solution), XDR memory @ 3.2Ghz, a 90nm GPU at 550Mhz internally and DDRIII @ 700Mhz.

What you need to worry about is when the machine cannot get the heat out, it's then that you will have problems. However, dust on the fan can make it underperform and thus make the system have to ramp up its speed higher than it should have to. On the highest fan speed (when the machine is under heavy load), yes, the PS3 can sound like a helicopter just like my old Prescott P4. All of this is controlled by the PS3 through temperature sensors inside it. If it does get too hot inside and it cannot ramp up the fan any higher it should turn itself off rather than letting a game freeze.

As for your problem with LBP, I have no idea. That could be anything from a bug to a hardware defect to a badly pressed disc.

Do you think that people in Europe do not have air conditioning and central heating? My place is a constant 21.5 degrees all year round.

His fan is obviously working as the heat is coming out of the machine. Whether the fan is working properly or not is a different issue (the speed it goes at).
