Well opening day "bliss" for us this year as we come away with the 3 points against a team who really wanted to impress for their first game in the top flight for years.

We could have excused WBA on using Liverpools tactics by sitting back and letting the tide hit them, unfortunately they didnt have the class to present a potent enough counter attack.

To me the result isnt of much importance, but what is, is looking forward on how this team can go and what the positives and negatives where.

The huge negative for me is in relation to our wing backs and their inability to provide us with another aspect in attack. P Neville and Silvestre do not help us at all when were moving up the pitch. With the English game, all your players from the backs to the strikers need to have some attacking ability and our wingbacks dont and I think this wont help us at all.

Arsenal have Lauren and Cole, not the best defenders in the world, but very capable when defending and pushing up.

Its frightening to think that teams are playing us and knowing what we are going to do. We are playing predictable football. There is no width in our game like there used to be. Our defenders are there just to knock the ball to Keane and Veron and nothing else.

Another point is I think we need Scholes in the middle and either sell Veron or leave him on the bench. Scholes is to good to be left on the bench because he is creative and a great goal scorer.

Ole also needs to start, I dunno what else the poor lad needs to do to get a regular start.

On a positive note I think O'shea did preety well, but we'll have to asses his form against better teams and not the team who is CERTAIN to come last.

I also think Roy Caroll is an awsome keeper. Apart from that one bluff he did I think he is very safe and if Barthez was to leave any time soon I wouldnt want another keeper, Caroll is good enough !

Thats all for now.....

The one thing I know is ... for "lesser" opponent like this, we should NEVER consider the 4-5-1 lineup anymore !! ... ppl come here to defend for 90min ... and if we on the other hand decide to "play it safe" then I think the better choices is to NEVER START THE GAME AT ALL !! ...

Why bother ended the game with 2-5-3 when we actually started off with 4-5-1 ??! ... isn't it better to just stick with 4-4-2 from the 1st whistle !! ... Another question, what's our NEXT BIGGEST game from now on ? ... yes the 2nd CL Q-league game ... and WHAT will we be playing then ?? ... 4-5-1 ?? .. that's a joke !! ... we are supposed to score at least 2 goals there .... so why can't we just start from 4-4-2 and get very accustom to it from now till then ... before look for other options ?!? ...

AND ... so much so we trusted that our MIDFIELD is tbe BEST in the world ... then why are the guys keep "pumping" long balls and skipping the midfield ?? It's too obvious even for a dump guy to understand this is not correct   ...

No matter how I view last nite's game ... it's just FAR from being entertaining .... If we gonna continue this for the next 9-months then I say we rather watch the youth-team's game probably better ...

Totally agree. Why bother playing with two defensive midfielders and a lone striker against a team like West Brom ? Fergie is really losing it.

The beeb normally have decent pics after most United games. I dont agree with you on the point of Silvestre, 007. He impressed me a lot last season and is improving with every game. One of my favourite memories from last season was Silvestre bursting forward and helping Giggs, getting a few assists too.

I'd have to agree with you about Silvestre.

Beckham007 had alot of good poinys, IMO. Scholes is too good to be left on the bench. Notice his great vision to set up OGS. Also, his abilty to find space in the box is tremendous. Veron IMO is not capable of playing this way. Although I thought Veron had a good game, he just doesn't threaten enough in the box.

I not completely against the 4-5-1. The reason for this view comes from the fact that Keane did extremely well in playing a more attacking role with Butt playing the 'holding' role. With Butt, Keane and Scholes in the middle, the 4-5-1 formation could possibly work. IMO, Veron just doesn't provide enough drive to be effective in this system if he plays in the middle.

A final note: I would consider Keane a defensive midfielder. He showed today that he is quiet capable of attacking when he is given the freedom to do so. And Nicky Butt allows him that freedom. So I wouldn't say we had 2 defensive midfielders today.

IMO 4-5-1 should be played against teams who like to work through the middle of the pitch.
German teams and Italian teams for example. They do not have much width in their game hence the need to compress the centre of midfield.
But for the EPL 4-4-2 is the only way to go. With Scholes being in there instead of Veron and Solskjaer next to Ruud.
