So me and a couple of guys are doing this radio show on a local station, and we need to keep things fresh in terms of what music we play... and the station likes stuff that isn't too mainstream

Here's what we played last week to give an idea on what we like, so if people have any suggestions for good music, that isn't the Beatles or Led Zeppelin or whatever, let's hear them

cheers

Thanks for the suggestions

Maybe I'll play the new LCD Soundsystem cover of No Love Lost

All of the tracks that I have posted in the 80's music thread.

For sure

I tried to play some Magazine last week but they didn't have it on CD - I played some of Real Life on vinyl the week before though, so this week maybe I'll hunt down the CD

I played Definitive Gaze on my first show, but only because I was scared of using the vinyl on live radio and it was the first track so it was easy :D

Tried to think of some good tracks that would be decent for a radio show. Some suggestions in the genres you seem to play:

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Weapon of Choice
Beck - Lost Cause
Blur - Out of Time
The Black Keys - 10am Automatic
Bjork - Play Dead
Biffy Clyro - Saturday Superhouse
Elbow - Newborn
Doves - Black and White Town
Guillemots - Made-Up Lovesong #43
John Martyn - Over the Hill
Jeff Buckley - Mojo Pin
Maximo Park - Apply Some Pressure
Manic Street Preachers - Faster
Nick Drake - Pink Moon
Ocean Colour Scene - The Day We Caught the Train
Pink Floyd - Money
Queens of the Stone Age - Feel Good Hit of the Summer
Ryan Adams - Love is Hell
Stephen Fretwell - New York
Sufjan Stevens - Chicago
Super Furry Animals - Rings Around the World
Supergrass - St Petersberg
Jimi Hendrix - Castles Made of Sand
The Hives - Hate to Say I Told You So
The Clash - London Calling
The Black Crowes - Twice as Hard
Thom Yorke - Black Swan
The Strokes - You Only Live Once

Why don't you start asking for local bands to send in cd's of themselves (most bands seem to make EP's now). Then if any of them are decent you could play them.... be some kind of John Peel characters or something.

On that point, we're all from different areas. You could get people to send you mp3's of the different bands that they think are shit hot from their own area or something. I should get my own radio show... I'd help out the little people........haha

Got any more suggestions reelworld? I know we like some of the same music...

Well, I haven't listened to much music these days, best that I can recommend that may suited your program probably Sondre Lerche's Phantom Punch, and probably Death Cab for Cutie albums, like Transatlanticism, Forbidden Love. Plans is their latest album, and considerably more 'poppish' than the rest, but good stuff also.

Yeah that's what I hope. I've got to fill about 6hrs a week of stuff though...

I am gonna play a nice new English band, give them some US exposure

Thanks for all the suggestions guys
