This is an odd one.
This is what has happened so far.
When Chelsea sent Salah on loan to Fiorentina as part of the Cuadrado deal, Fiorentina were given the option of triggering a clause in the agreement that would send Salah on loan there for another season.
Salah obviously had a very good 6 months there and Fiorentina decided they wanted him for next season, so they promptly activated the clause in the agreement and paid Chelsea the agreed upon £1m in loan fees. All seemed like it should.
Here's where it gets a little murky. It turns out that, for reasons only clear to Fiorentina, they paid the loan fee without really knowing exactly where Salah stood. He told them he'd be happy to stay, but he wanted a pay rise. Fiorentina put an improved offer on the table, but it wasn't high enough apparently and talks broke down. His agent then informed Fiorentina that Salah would not play for them next season.
Fiorentina released a statement to the press threatening to take legal action against Salah.
The following day his agent spoke to the press with scathing words for Fiorentina.
So this has turned from a pretty straight forward deal to one of the messiest sagas I've seen in a while. Salah's agent still insists that Salah will not play for Fiorentina next season. He also says Salah will play for another Italian club. Meanwhile, Chelsea have unwittingly been dragged into a mess they had no hand in creating. And what happens to the £1m Fiorentina have already paid to Chelsea for Salah? Do Chelsea pay the money back?

"Through his representative, the player has rejected our improved contract offer and expressed his desire to join another club. He has also informed us that he does not intend to respond to our request for him to report back for pre-season training. As a result of the above, we have placed the matter in the hands of our lawyers so that they may assess all possible courses of action in order to protect the club’s rights.”

Please note, in response to the Viola’s Press release, that at the moment Salah is a Chelsea player. We referred to the document signed by all [three] parties in January, which is clear, crystal clear, and it’s regrettable that Fiorentina are now talking about legal proceedings.
It’s very sad to see a great club like Fiorentina make such pathetic attempts to renege on their agreements, and their written contractual obligations. Salah would like to play for a club with different moral and professional values.
